The dollar general coupon states, “coupon not valid with other coupons for the same item”. It sounds like you can’t stack the manufacture coupon if I’m reading it right? Maybe someone can clarify that.

    • JulieA

I read it the same way. Their coupon policy states otherwise but I am betting the registers won’t scan both…

    • Robin

Yes you are reading it right. In fact both coupons state that they are not to be used with other coupons for the same item so there really is no deal.

    • Chelsea

It worked for me! I got 4 for 1.20 no questions no issues. 🙂

      • Bmorewise

        yeah right…:(

Thank you but I will just wait for the deal at CVS because using coupons at Dollar General is a nightmare! Wish it wasn’t, great price. Thank you for posting:)

The link for the Dollar General coupon isn’t taking me there. It appears to be taking me back to coupons.com

I was in DG Friday to get some Vidal Sassoon shampoo. I put my 3 shampoos on the counter and the guy clerk just stood there. I asked what was wrong and he said he needed my coupons first. The shampoos were $2.50 and coupon $2. First he said you can’t use coupons on sale items. I said since when, that’s not right. So he scanned the shampoo and after I insisted he scan my coupons he said ok and that’s $6.00 plus tax. I said there’s no way $7.50 minus $6 in coupons is $6. He said the coupon only brings the price down to $2 each because it’s a sale item and the price is correct. At that point a big line was forming and all eyes were on me. I told him I wanted my coupons back and I’d take them to Family Dollar where I have been using them with no problems. I was willing to pay $0.50 per bottle just for convenience. I will never go back to DG! I wonder if corporate would even care how I was treated? I know I’ll have to pass on this Purex deal. Has DG cracked down on taking coupons?

I called corporate about one of my DG here in Beaumont,TX. The district mgr called me back within the hour and told me that I was correct about the coupon policy and the store mgr that I had a problem with was incorrect and that she would call the store immediately and let them know that. I was then able to go back in and get my free trash bags. Of course the next time I went in for my freebie was another nightmare 🙁

Carol don’t feel bad. I think most of the DG are not coupon friendly. Matter of fact the programmers did not write their registar system coupon friendly. I did go to corporate to complain about the manager and he got a little better. I told them that these coupons ALWAYS scan at Walmart, so I will just price match it at Walmart and give them the business instead. Everyone is hurting, so you would think they would care.

      • Carol

Becky, Will Walmart accept a DG coupon?

  5. Brittney

Patsy, the coupon is on coupons.com. It’s under “household”.

I don’t think corporate cares. Every time I’ve tried to contact them (yes, I’m a glutton for punishment) I can’t get to anyone. Complaining to the store manager doesn’t help, because they are the ones I have the complaints about. Hate shopping at DG.

    • Carol

Sorry, didn’t mean to post twice. I think my remarks were being moderated so it didn’t post right away.

The last time I tried to use coupons at DG, the registet adjusted the value of one coupon even though the face value was not more than the product and then would not accept the others. I did not undetstand why and the cashier really couldn’t give me a real answer.

  8. v

Yep…..using coupons at my “local area” DG stores causes issues for me too. I have stopped trying. Shame too. Good deals can be had when using coups with their sales.

  9. JulieA

Sadly, my DG is a nightmare with coupons too. I wish they could get their cashiers educated in coupons and their policy. They probably also need to get their systems up to date as well. The saddest part for me is the DG is the absolute closest store to me and I would LOVE to get great deals there!

  10. Kelsey

I can tell everyone right now that they cashiers will try to get out of accepting both coupons. I’ve worked for DG and thought it was the worst place to work. They tell us to keep close watch of the coupons and not to accept more than one coupon for each item… At least that’s what they told us here in Ohio. Even when I tried to get around their system, the register would pick up on it and wouldn’t accept coupons. It is a nice deal though, Collin!

  11. Joyce

Hey, at least the manager isn’t following you out and slamming you against the front door like I saw on the news down in Memphis a year or so ago! Look at the bright side! LOL

    • Carol

Oh my gosh, that does it for me. I won’t go back. Obviously after reading these comments couponing at DG is a nationwide problem and not just my store.

  12. Pam

I also had a VERY bad experience with Dollar General. Their coupon that was out for $5.00 off a $25.00 purchase clearly reads for their cashiers to scan it FIRST then all other coupons. They would NOT do it. They were extremely ugly including the manager. I just put all my items in the bags back up on the counter and walked out. I will NEVER shop there again. It’s not worth the hassle and frustration. If I could, I would buy everything at Publix. They are so coupon friendly and I’ve never had a problem with them. So, when an item I use is on sale there, I stock up. Love PUBLIX!

    • Dana

Me too. Publix trips always leave me happy. Though I have found a DG that manually inputs coupons (certain cashiers), which is nice as none ever seem to scan. Keep searching, you might find one too.

  13. kristin

what area code is the coupon under? I couldn’t find it

  14. Sheela

I dont think the Dollar General coupon is available anymore

  15. Ann

If it helps anyone, Bi-lo accepts dollar general coupons as a competitor. So u can use it there. I am going to print just incase Bi-lo has them B1G1 again.

  16. jeff

6.Maximum of two coupons per item. One coupon must be a Manufacturer’s Coupon and the second coupon must be a Dollar General Coupon as long as neither coupon states that it is not valid with other coupons.

cannot be combined with another coupon states this on both coupons.

  17. Brandy

My DG let me use one MQ(1.50 off of 2) and one DG coupon BECAUSE it beeped when the cashier scanned it and it said maximum amount of coupons used or something like that. The manager came over and read the DG coupon and told me I could only use one DG coupon even tho I was purchasing 2 bottles of the detergent. I tried to explain that it was up to 4 like coupons but she didn’t want to hear it and told me no. I still got them for $1.70 each but I am disappointed. I should have known better and I should have read my fellow Hip2Savers comments before trying this at DG!

  18. Brandy

I was surprised but I did this deal at two different DG’s in my area and it worked. However they did have a problem both times with the DG coupons. They had to override both times and enter them in. I usually HATE couponing there but today was a good day.
