Looks like a great gift! I have a question for you hip2savers, I recently got married to a Pastor and I and find myself spinning in a world of wedding and baby showers for women in our church. I want to attend and bring a great gift, but we simply can’t afford buying off the registries for 4-5 showers a month : / My question is, I would love to buy several of these blocks sets to add to my gift closet but is a set of blocks a good enough gift? Help : /

Sarah, I think it is a good enough gift. I’d appreciated a lot, you can simply add a onesie or a pack of wipe if you think she ” deserves” something better.

    • Steph

Yes! They would be perfect as shower gifts!

    • Cara

I would have loved to receive these as a shower gift! And it absolutely would have been plenty:)

    • Ashlynn

Yes! Most people are inviting you to be polite and to get to know you… not because they expect some extreme gift. Homemade gifts honestly meant the most to me.

I bought some as gifts and would have enjoyed this as a gift myself

I am a first time mom-to-be and I would love these. It is enough, being overwhelmed by all that is baby, any gift is enough.

    • Casey

I agree it would be a great gift. If you’re still concerned you can always throw in a little pack of washcloths, or socks, or a onesie. No one needs to know how much you spent 😉

You can always stock up on board books when Target puts their dollar section on clearance or you find them other places. Add a book and the blocks and it’ll be great. I’ve found that you can dress up a smaller gift and make it more personal if you write a cute poem and use ribbon or something to tie all of it together. Presentation helps to make it feel more substantial.

Another thing you can always do, is buy clothes on the clearance racks. If you’re going to showers a lot, the baby clothes that you buy now in the winter clearance section will be great to give to someone at an August, September or October shower. I always keep clearance baby clothes on hand for showers. Then I can give 3-4 outfits as a gift that cost $5-10 total, but retailed originally for $20-$40. They have no idea that it was hanging in a guest room closet for 8 months with a red tag on it.

I’ve also gone to Goodwill and found bibs and cute outfits that were new, rolled them up and put them in a flower pot that I painted. I put some fake flowers in that I got on sale at JoAnn or even the Dollar Tree and made something similar to this (but with a painted clay flower pot – 2 or 3 coats of $1 craft paint from JoAnn. By the time you finish painting the pot, you can start the 2nd coat. In 20 minutes, you’re done) https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=355883.0#axzz2wRmqTk5l

In terms of wedding showers, Hip2Save will allow you to stock up on a lot of household supplies. I always give something like this and it has been a really big hit at every shower. One of my friends says that she realized how handy it was when she got married and moved into a new house, so she now gives it as a shower gift as well. https://strivetosimplify.com/wedding-poem-a-fun-frugal-and-creative-gift-for-a-bridal-shower-using-household-items/

They also have poems with candles for the couple to burn on special occassions. If you google, you can find those.
