Love your vid! I’ve been popping mine for a few years, but I noticed you didn’t have any unpopped kernels when you poured it out the bag! Was that a little “video magic”? I usually end up with like a tbsp of unpopped kernels and it drives me nuts!

    • Shebella

She also had left over kernals. I heard them hit the bottom of the bow.

Hi Mel, I just read somewhere that un popped kernels are usually from a lack of moisture in the kernel. I keep my popcorn in sealed Tupperware and that seems to do the trick. We usually only have one or two that don’t pop. It’s worth a try!

      • mel

I keep mine in a tupperware container as well. I also make sure the kernels are coated in oil before popping, but I still wind up with a bunch of unpopped. Wondering if it’s the brand!

        • Kris

Could be! I wish I could find the article I read, but it said to soak unpopped kernels in water and try again…? Sounds kind of funny! We usually have the best luck with generic popcorn.

Thanks so much! I definitely had leftover kernels, Mel! 🙂

What an awesome idea!!! I am going to try it this weekend. I just purchased coconut oil (Trader Joes) for the first time. But, it looks liquidy, not white. Am I supposed to refrigerate it?

    • CW

Call TJ’s and ask?! They are so helpful! Drat I was just there. I’ll have to buy some the next time I head over there. How expensive was it at TJs? We just got one and I’m amazed at how reasonable they are!

      • mel

Coconut Oil will liquefy it’s stored in a warm spot, but will resolidify when it gets cooler. I leave mine on my kitchen counter, so it fluctuate between liquid & solid during the seasons and depending on how warm/cold my house is!
Someone suggested to dump the contents into a kitchen aid and whip it, that supposedly keeps if from liquefying, but I haven’t personally tried it yet.

Trader Joe’s coconut oil is organic and cheap!! It’s only $5.99 for 16 oz. The best deal around!

Collin glad to know that you are frugal all around. It was good to know that you were a thrifter as well. I so look forward to your deals, and videos. Thanks for being you!!

I appreciate your kind words, Shebella! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos. 🙂

Coconut oil with liquify in warm temps. Another healthy tip is to sprinkle the popped corn with nutritional yeast instead of parmesan. We love it in our house and it is a vegan snack!

I bought the microwave popcorn bowl from Target & use it all the time. Love, love, love it!!!

  6. Lori Stevens

For those with a Costco membership, it is cheaper there. $23.99 for 78 oz (.31 cents per oz) vs .47 cents per oz for this one.

If you whip it, it will no longer liquefy. I stick a whole jar in the kitchen aid and then put split it up for cooking and moisturizing. It gets up to 100 degrees here, too. It will also not harden so much you need to crack it like crime brûlée.

Right on time, thank you Collin!

Just a tidbit of information I read about recently: Most Americans eat too much salt, but processed foods do not have added iodine – meaning most of us need iodine in our diets. So, you should look for salt with Iodine added. I think most people do this already…but what I didn’t know is that regular Sea Salt (which I love cooking with because it tastes SO much better) does not naturally have iodine. I always hear sea salt is healthier for you, but you should look for it with added iodine also!! I searched and searched for it at every store possible and Finally found it at Food4Less for about 2 bucks for a large container… don’t know if anyone cares to hear this, but there is my 2 cents about salt 😉

    • cara

fyi too, pink Himalayan sea salt is awesome it has more nutrients and benefits than regular table salt. I see it every where now you can buy it in large crystal form in grinders at Wal-Mart now too, I usually get mine at trader Joe’s, it’s all I use now. Love it

isn’t coconut oil/fat bad for you? I thought it full of saturate fat which is bad right?

    • cara

No it’s not bad for you. If you are going to consume any oils in your diet is one of the best.
Coconut oil is awesome and had many more uses other than just for cooking. There are some really good articles out there that explain all the benefits. I’ve been using it in place of butter after going dairy free. Dr mercola has many good articles on coconut oil if you want to research it more online.
