Has anyone with a bad prescription (AKA “coke bottle thick” lenses) got a good pair of glasses with this deal? I’m a -13 in contacts so my glasses are thick. Thanks in advance.

    • Ann

Mine is not nearly as bad yours, it’s a -5.5, but I remember trying to do this deal before and it got pretty expensive (for me) with all the add ons, like the thinner lens index. I ended up canceling and going with Zenni because it’s more affordable for me. However, my husband got a pair from coastal before & the quality is great. If you’re looking for a pair of backup glasses, go with Zenni. If you want a good quality pair for everyday, I would go with Coastal.

I’m a -9 in one eye and a -8.5 in the other, so not quite as bad, but up there. I didn’t get many extras save for the thinner lens and it still only cost me less than $30! I only use them at night, but they’re quite comparable to the Gucci glasses my puppy managed to destroy. I love them!

        • CW

Ok thanks Sara. $30 I can handle 🙂 ! I only use them for an hr at night

      • CW

Thanks Ann, that’s what I was afraid of. I think the only way they can make my lenses is the thinner lens index. I’ll have to price it out. Even with the thinnest lens, my lenses are 1/2 inch thick.

        • Brooke

Hi, CW. You are correct. You need to get high index lenses for your prescription in order for them to be as thin as possible.

          • CW

Well sadly Costal cannot help me. They only go to a -12.00 in lenses. I’m a -14.50 and -15.75 so they will not make me lenses. So incredibly disappointed! But thank you everyone for the help. You all are the best.

        • Theresa

I have a very strong prescription and ordered glasses from coastal. I did one upgrade which didn’t cost much and I adored my glasses. Unfortunately I entered the wrong pd and they can’t “redo”your glasses and they were no longer carrying that frame. I had the lenses replaced at Wal-Mart, paid a bunch of money on top of my insurance and the lenses were still really thick. I can’t wait to order from coastal again, they were great.

          • Ann

Hi Theresa. The time my husband ordered glasses, he accidentally typed in one of the numbers wrong. Well, he received his glasses and couldn’t see at all. Coastal allowed him to return them and they made him new ones, no charge, even though it was his fault. Wonderful customer service there!

  2. Krissy

I received a free pair and LOVE the quality! Highly recommend if you need new glasses.

  3. Lala

I just go my daughter a pair of sunglasses at Zenni for 23!

  4. Inda

I got a pair just under a year ago and one of the eye pads broke off last week. I emailed customer service and they sent me a new pair of glasses — came in the mail today. No charge as it was within the one-year warranty period. They paid for shipping as well as return shipping to send back the old pair. So happy with their customer service!

I bought some this month, they came, and my boys laughed at me, needless to say, I didn’t like them. I returned them (their cost) and ordered new ones. I love the new ones. I only paid 16 dollars. they came quick, they are located in my state (Washington)

So, I’m semi-nervous about buying glasses through them… My main question to anyone, is it 2 for 99$+ the cost of lenses, or is 99$ for lenses and frames total?

    • Jessica

      I believe everything.

      • Kayla

        Oh ok thank you!

My husband and I LOVE our glasses that we got from Coastal!!!

I can’t say enough good things about this company. Probably the best thing that Hip2save has ever brought me is the knowledge of coastal. My 16 year old currently has 6 pairs of amazing cool prescription glasses that she can wear with different out fits and feel trendy because the of affordability of coastal. For sunglasses and fun glasses I go to zenni because they are cheaper quality but coastal has my business for life

    • Mel

I would’t say Coastal was higher quality than Zenni. I’ve ordered from both and would say the frames were very comparable. I’ll admit I’m partial to Zenni, but my family has over 60 frames between us from Zenni (we have a problem and they were cheap) and about 7 from coastal over the past 8 or so years. No complaints or break from either company.

Zenni Optical offers prescription glasses as low as $6 and shipping is $5 flat rate. You can make them sunglasses for a few bucks more. My husband and I have ordered over 20 pairs from them in the last 3 years and love them. MUCH cheaper than Coastal ($50/pair compared to $6/pair!).

    • Mel

Just in case people are interested. I got the cheapest options for prescription sunglasses from Zenni and it ended up being around $16, but $6 of that was the flat rate shipping. A life saver for sunny days when I’m too lazy to put my contacts in.

  10. Julie

Just ordered my first pair! They do offer a 3-pymt split so even though my total was $55 I was able to just pay $18 this month; still expected to deliver by August 1. I got the thin (not ultra-thin) index so we’ll see how mine come out. I’m a -6.25 and -7.25. I really hope they work! I’m actually picking up a new pair of glasses at my local eyeglass shop next week; even with vision insurance that pair is costing $330. I intend to go with them for exams and one pair when my prescrip. changes but this will be really helpful for spare/fun pairs! *fingers crossed*
