It might add $10 extra fee to chalet at end! It did to me just for heads up

Thanks! I just added this to the post.

      • Laura

        Your welcome! I ordered one

But still a heck of a deal

  3. Carolyn

They did add a $10 surcharge when I purchased the Winter Chalet, but it is still a great deal. The code SUMMER also works for free shipping on $50 .

Ugh, I really don’t like the American Girl doll brand. My daughter’s father buys her a doll every year and now she has 5 with a ton of other crap from the store. I think the last thing she got as a gift was a horse that was like $150. WTF??? Even this Chalet, it’s suppose to be a good deal because it American Girl Doll brand (nothing against Collin cuz I love you Collin). I am just taking issue up with the brand. Its still a $60 piece of plastic. It breaks my heart when her less fortunate friends come over and see all this stuff and there parents can’t even afford one doll. Maybe it’s just me, but I can never justify purchasing anything that is this marked up. At the end of the day, it is just plastic toys and dolls that you are paying 80-90% mark-up for while millions of families in this country live off $5 a day to feed their families. I think that our money would be better served in the hands of the poor (or anywhere else for that matter) than lining pockets of the corporate owners of American Girl Doll. Okay, I will end my rant now!

You’re not alone in feeling that way. The brand is a cute concept and it’s nice that pitstop fun for girls, but I really wish that the items were at least more moderately priced and not seen as a “status” item. Nothing agaisnt this post or Collin as you said, just the brand for its overpricing, but I guess that’s the way of life for now.

I agree with both of you! My daughter wanted one, so I bought her a similar doll on clearance at Wal-Mart for $19! I know, I know, Wal-Mart is bad, yadda yadda. But you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do sometimes and that’s what I could afford. It’s for her birthday but I’m sure she’ll love it just as much as if it cost $100+.

They donate to a fair amount of causes, including homelessness. They also had a doll portraying a homeless girl for awhile.

They donate to a fair amount of causes, including homelessness. They also had a doll portraying a homeless girl for awhile. Plus, they empower girls. The magazines, etc are wonderful. We have a herd of kids and several second hand American girl dolls. They’re still in beautiful condition. The Wal-Mart one however is looking it’s hair. Buy what you want, donate what you want, America!

Just a heads up that winter chalet is really small. Just one doll fits and just barely. No room to play in it at all.

My 4yr old is begging for an American Girl doll. Can anyone tell me the quality of the doll? She has worn out the book they sent and talks about Santa bringing her one constantly. Just wondering if they are any nicer than other dolls.

In my opinion, they are the best made dolls that I have found. I have purchased over a dozen dolls over the years for my daughters and neices. American Girl also has wonderful customer service.
I look at these as an investment, they are so loved and well made.
I can highly recommend these dolls…

Plus a high resale value (if she doesn’t keep them for her children).

    • Cara

My daughter now plays with mine that I had as a child — they are expensive and if you can’t afford it, then just get one at Target. Those are super cute:). But if you can afford it and actually want to invest in something that she’ll keep for life? Go with American Girl:)

Jill’s Steals and Deals has the Bitty Baby for a reasonable price every once in awhile. I got it with a ton a clothes for $68 plus $10 or so shipping a year ago. I would keep my eye out for that and get your daughter one of those. They’ll probably do it again soon I would think.

Debra, these are very nice dolls. They are expensive but in my opinion well worth it. I considered them an investment for my daughter. She waited a long time for one and so appreciated it when she got hers, took really good care of it and after 20 years it is stored in our attic to give to her daughter should she have one. They really encourage such a good message of empowering girls. If you can afford one I don’t think you’ll regret it. Hope this helps! 🙂

We got one last October on sale for $50 with an extra outfit. I’m pretty sure they did the same sale the year before, too. It might be worth it to wait and see if they run the sale again. My sister had one as a kid and played with it for years and is now saving it for her daughter.

FYI the flannel nightgown for girls is really nice quality and so cute — I bought one for $21 in the store 2 weeks ago for my daughter’s birthday, because she’s wanted a long nightgown for SO long and they’re hard to find. She loves it! It reminds me of one I had as a kid, and it reminded my mom of one SHE had.

My daughter loves her doll, loves to read the stories, and looks forward to the movies. I personally loves the messages behind each story and the characters. ..they empower girls…She loves them and takes care of them more than any other toy she has…
