I’ve been wanting to donate me hair, but wasn’t sure who to do it through, Thanks!

  2. Mertsmc

Didn’t really need an incentive but i’ll take it. Made my October Donation Appointment weeks ago and I can’t wait! This will be my second year in a row making October my donation month. I’m more than happy to contribute!

    • Ashley

      your hair must grow fast!

  3. Heather

No more than 5% gray AND the hair can’t be colored? Wish I could participate, but with those qualifications, that will definitely exclude many, including myself.

    • Yoko

The form says it takes about 8-10 donated ponytails to make one wig and permanentally dyed hair and grey hair have different time for dying at the wig facility. Also, they are more fragile than natural non-grey hair.

    • Dee

I’m excluded, too, but it makes sense that they wouldn’t make wigs with gray or colored hair.

    • Sabrina

I don’t mean to take away from Pantene but Locks of Love accepts dyed hair, just not bleached. Their guidelines is 10 inches but if you’re thinking about donating but have dyed your hair, they will accept it!

      • Sara

I’ve donated to Locks of Love and wish I hadn’t. They SELL most of their wigs to children. Pantene gives them wigs for free.

    • Heather

Children with Hair Loss accepts hair donations that have been dyed. If I remember right, they will take a slightly shorter length donation as well.

    • Athena

Go to locks of love.com they take grey and colored hair

  4. Molly

I have read this a few times (maybe I’m not fully awake yet lol)… Do I have to purchase Pantene at walmart? Or can I just get my haircut at a salon of my choice and send it in?

    • Yoko

      From term and conditions:

“How to Receive Offer: During the Offer Period, visit a participating Wal-Mart store and make a purchase of any Pantene product (excluding trial/travel size products).”

  5. Sami

Can I donate without purchasing Pantene products? Please let me know guys…

    • Yoko

    • cbeths

I think you can donate, but you would not qualify for the rebate.

    • Bobbi

Yes, I donated to the Beautiful Lengths program several years ago without any purchase. They have all the details on their website.

  6. Lee

I just donated mine to Pantene Beautiful Lengths 1 month ago. Wish I would have known about this. Do they do it every year?

    • mumfors

i think so. last year was the only year i remember they did it. someone correct me if i am wrong.

    • Sara

Did you have to pay shipping? I think I paid almost $7 at the post office.

      • Mary T.

We just mailed 12 inches of hair and it cost around $4 in a padded envelope.

  7. Jane

This is so awesome!! I need a hair cut! And to whoever was asking, you have to buy a Pantene product from walmart and you should be able to go to ANY salon to cut your hair! Hth!

  8. Ali

It says that hair cannot be bleached. I had highlights done in March with bleach, so does that mean I can’t do it?

    • cbeths

I think you are correct. Highlights mean your hair was bleached.

    • Heather

A lot of places to donate hair will not take chemically altered hair. However, I found one that would, Children with Hair Loss.

  9. Erica

I chopped off all my hair in march and just threw the ziplock bag away a month ago. Guess ill have to wait until next year.

    • cbeths

Hair doesn’t go bad, just so you know for next time. As long as it is bundled and dry, it can be donated years later.

      • cbeths

I have 6 ponytails around my house because I haven’t had time to mail them in. I cut 11-12 inches every 2 years.

    • J

I actually did the same thing:( I kept forgetting to send it in anywhere & finally my husband was like “do we really need to keep this hair around?!”

  10. Diane

That’s Great! I was planning on cutting and donating, now I can do that and use the gc to get school donation supplies! Thanks!

  11. broadway96

Do you really have to go to a Salon and pay $25 to get your hair cut. Can I just cut off 8 or more inches at home and send it in?

    • cbeths

I’m not sure. It does say “salon reciept” on items to include.

  12. Yoko

So, as I understand you won’t get $50 GC for donating hair. Instead, you will get the price of hair cut reimbursed. Is that right? I remember getting a free hair cut when I donated my hair several years ago (the salon kept the hair for donation).

    From T&C:
“Upon receipt and review of the completed Kit, Sponsor will mail qualified participants with a rebate in the form of a CitiBank gift card (terms and conditions apply) valued at UP TO $50. The value of the card will be based on the Salon receipt included in the Kit.”

    • cbeths

It looks like that to me too. The terms aren’t detailed enough.

    • AMBER

Wow! I totally didn’t catch that. I was stressing over thinking about cutting my hair just to make a little money. I really don’t want to lose my hair. It’s kind of important to me, but for enough money I was thinking about it. I also don’t want to go to a salon. Never have in my life so that was a stressful thought too. If all the rebate for is to pay for the salon then this is a no deal for me. Thanks so much for clarifying!

  13. Leslie

Love this! Have been doing this since I was 18. I never knew you could get a free haircut when you donated until a few years ago, when my new stylist told me. Nice surprise, to do good and get a free $45 haircut 🙂

  14. Ferchi

My daughter cutted her hair for first time since she born (6 years ) past month, and donated for kids with cancer. But I didn’t know about any /this promotion, maybe with this money she could buy herself want she wants. Next time!

    • jesse

Just to clarify, you don’t get $50 free money for donating your hair, you basically get reimbursed up to max $50, for the money you paid to get a haircut. If you only pay $8 at great clips, they will only send you $8 back, not $50. Its not a moneymaker, its a nice gesture for a kind act.

  15. heather

can a child cut their hair if an adult submits the rebate/form etc?

    • Molly

Yes, a child can do it. Pantene sent my 8 year old a letter thanking her and she thought that was really cool!

  16. Lori

My 4 year old just donated 10 inches to locks of love. They actually take colored hair it just can’t be bleached!

  17. irelandsunshine

Perfect timing. I have an appointment on Friday to get my haircut. I am wondering if they would accept a handwritten receipt? The lady who cuts my hair has a small shop and there isn’t a cash register where she could print off a receipt.

    • Rachael

my salon is small too, so I just asked if I could print up an official looking receipt on the computer and have her approve it. Just look up an invoice template in Word or Pages, super quick and easy. 🙂

  18. Nichole B

For those of you that have colored treated hair and still want to donate, https://www.childrenwithhairloss.us/
    From their website:

In order to do so please follow these requirements:

Hair should be at least 8 inches in length or longer is preferred.
Non-chemically treated hair is preferred (but any hair in good condition will be accepted).

I donated to them 2 years ago.

  19. Karin

Thanks for the info. Since my MIL is a cancer survivor and once she lost her hair by treatment, I have been thinking about to donate my very thick & natural black hair. I’ll think about choose either for this program or for kids one. 🙂

  20. Tracy

What does no more 5% gray mean? My hair is black.

    • e

If more than 5% of your hair is grey they don’t want it. If you have a grey hair here and there it’s ok.

  21. Kathie

I have done this every 2 years for about 8 years now. Sometimes with pantene other times with locks of love,I do use drugstore hair color that is considered semi permanent. As long as you have not colored in the past 8 weeks they will accept the pony, The 50.00 gift card is a nice incentive ladies usually we just give from our hearts.

  22. Lei

Does anyone know if layered hair will be accepted? My ponytail is over 8 inches, but it’s layered, so there are also short hair.

  23. Kathy

I have also heard that Helping Children with hair loss is an awesome company to donate to, they take colored, and gray hair…what makes their company awesome is that DO NOT CHARGE for the wig… unlike the other companies.

  24. B

Yes please make sure not to donate to locks of love and make it more widely known that they charge struggling families with sick children a lot of money for their wigs. Very sad. There are many other good, caring organizations to donate hair to instead.

  25. Ashleigh

I went to my salon yesterday and chopped off 15 total inches. I have natural red hair, which I am sure if harder to come by. I wonder if I write a note they could send me a photo of the wig they make with my hair. I have been growing it out for quite sometime and I am so glad to see it go to to someone in need and they DON’T have to pay for it

  26. Steph

I went to a salon and when I asked for a receipt (I paid cash), the stylist just wrote on a business card “wash & cut $25”. Do you think they will accept this?

  27. April

    Is this offer still available?

  28. Lisa

I donate every 2-3 years. I used to send it to locks for love but I am going to donate to beautiful lengths. Any idea where to get a free haircut in Minneapolis to donate 10 inches?
