Walmart shoppers! Rumor has it that starting tomorrow, November 14th, Walmart will start price matching online retailers like Amazon.com, Target.com, BestBuy.com and Walmart.com! Keep in mind that the item you are price matching does need to be in stock at the online retailer’s website and the store manager does have the final decision for matching an online price. Also note that online price match is not available in Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

Note that Walmart will NOT price match the following:

* Membership Clubs or Auctions sites (i.e Ebay)
* Bundle offers, Instant Rebates, Mail-in offers, and Offers that include financing
* Clearance, Closeout, Liquidation, Special/Hour/Flash/Limited Quantity offers
* Walmart One Hour Guarantee items – Note that Black Friday in-store event items that are NOT 1-Hour Guarantee items are available for online price match.

Stay tuned for another post when Walmart releases the Official Online Price Match Policy – hopefully tomorrow! 🙂

(Thanks, I Heart the Mart and Jacob!)

yay for Walmart! I was told at Target the other day that they won’t price match Amazon prices anymore

  2. Maggie

Awesome! I have a couple LEGO sets on Layaway at Walmart…I know they’re a bit cheaper on Amazon. Do you think Walmart would adjust the price for items already on Layaway?

    • Rowen

Unfortunately, I’ve been told they don’t for items already on layaway.

  3. Jamie

I really hope they train their employees on this because I always battle everything with them. Even their own policies that are on a sticker on the register!

    • jocelyn

      i agree with you

    • julie

      Exactly why I avoid walmart!

    • Stevmon2

      Agree 100000000 %

    • Linda Guenette

Bring in a copy of the above information when you shop.

    • Catherine

Me too. I try to avoid Walmart. Besides, if it’s on Amazon, I’d rather order it than have to worry about fighting Walmart to match it.

    • didijojo

ALWAYS have a print out of the policy in your purse, so if they give you a hard time, you can whip that baby out! lol It shouldn’t have to be that way but it’s saved me a headache or two at various stores when it comes to their OWN policies or lack of knowing them. 😉

  4. tiffanydockery1

Our Walmart, in the greater Atlanta area, has been price matching Amazon.com for a few weeks but not walmart.com. Happy to hear things are changing for the better! 🙂 Thanks!

  5. Margie

Poor Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico! 🙁 I am not located in any of those areas, but that would definitely stink!

  6. Dee

Can you post where exactly it says from Walmart they don’t accept mail-in rebates ( or things of that matter?) I cannot find it anywhere on their corporate ad match policy. Thanks.

    • michelle

It doesn’t say they don’t accept them. They will not price match items that include a mail in rebate.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi Dee! Walmart has not actually released the Online Price Match Policy yet (hopefully tomorrow!). In the meantime, you can hop over to I Heart the Mart to view some corporate memos that he was able to obtain.

      • Dee

Thanks! I’m also wondering, do they also not price match mail-in rebate offers at another local competitor, in stores? (Hopefully this makes sense lol).

  7. Lucy

I find it funny Walmart stores didn’t price match Walmart.com. Anyone else? Target stores price match target.com prices though!

    • julie

Me too! I can just drive over to target and price match walmart.com with no problems.

  8. Tina

Checking out at walmart is always a nightmare. The cashiers act like the coupon $ comes out of their pockets. Thanks for the info Colin but not worth the stress for me!

    • Katie

I hate it to when they act like this but it really isn’t their fault. They are constantly getting in trouble over accepting certain coupons or messing up by the managers in the store. ( I know this because I have family and friends who work there)

    • Princess

@Tina, I say that all the time about cashiers when it comes to coupon use. They act as if they own the store and are losing money. If we all coupon correctly it’s a win win situation for all involved. The store wins because we shopped there verses somewhere else and the store will be reimbursed if the correct product/size was purchased. The manufacturers win because we purchased their product, and of course we win because we saved MONEY!!!!!

  9. Jaime

Target still price matches amazon. They just did yesterday for me.

    • Lolita

Last time I went I was told they price match, but not if it shows Amazon Prime next to the price… I was like huh? They said since Amazon Prime is a paid subscription, they are not allowed to match…? It may have been the person I was talking with… I hope Walmart doesn’t have any funny rules like that…

      • Amy

I’m wondering if they were getting it confused with their policy that they’ll only price match from Amazon if the item is actually being sold by Amazon and not a third party. Who knows?!

        • nicoleabradley

That’s what I was going to suggest too.

      • Bobbi

Then I would just log out of my account so it won’t say Prime anymore. Lol

      • Jessica

Walmart does not have a rule that you cannot price match in Prime, but what Amy said is the only rule they have about Amazon. It must be sold by Amazon.com, not individual sellers on the Amazon marketplace!

  10. Sarah

Will the cashiers take the time to go online and check the price and stock? Because I don’t have a smart phone. Can I just print off the web page and take it to Walmart? Amazon is famous for changing prices quickly.

    • Jessica

The actual policy that the front end managers get states that we are responsible for verifying the online price. We do have an application on our computer that we clock in on that verifies online prices or we can do it on our own phones. The deal with amazon is that it has to be actually sold by amazon.com, not individual retailers on amazon.com. Amazon’s actual prices don’t vary much, it is the individual sellers that come and go that change prices.

  11. Katie

Will I be able to price match Walmart’s Black Friday deal on the PS4 with a $50 Giftcard?

    • Kendall

Most likely not. Price matching policies almost always exclude Black Friday deals. Besides any bundles with gift cards are considered a ‘promotion’ not a straight price match they can honor.

  12. Elise

I wasn’t aware that walmart didn’t price match. It’s been a few months since I actually needed to pm something, (from walmart.com even!) Maybe I was just lucky. But the thing I like most about WM pm is that the cashiers can do it right at check out, so you don’t have to go wait in the cs line.

  13. Polly

I’m wanting to get 2 iPods at the Black Friday best buy price of $149, will walmart match this I wonder? And does it have to be that same day?

    • Dee

Good question! I’m wondering too. Would you also get the gift card walmart is offering? Or is it an either /or situation??

      • Jenn

My Wal-Mart always price matches from other stores on Black Friday (Thursday now!) as long as its the same item and within the competitor store’s sale time. If that same item is on sale @ Wal-Mart w/ a gift card offer, you still get the gift card even if you are comping it. It is automatic at the register. My Wal-Mart has also been comping online sale prices for about 2 weeks now. When walmart.com had the Special Deal day on Tuesday, a customer bough a Crayola easel for $19, originally $39.88, comping the online sale price. My store manager did say it is a limit of 1 per customer though. Hope this helps. I know every Wal-Mart is different but my store make customer service a priority always.

    • jocelyn

Where does it say the ipads are 149$?

      • Polly

Best by has iPods for 149, not iPads I don’t think

    • Jessica

Yes…your walmart should price match them, but it must be on the same day as the sale in the same hours.

  14. jhnicole

Woo hoo too excited about this thanks collin.best buy.com has awesome prices on cell phone cases and such.

  15. Jessica

We started Online Price Matching on November 3rd (that was the launch date). We honor all online prices as long as the item is in stock and sold by the actual .com site. We do not honor amazon.com prices that are sold in their marketplace by other sellers. I can get the actual copy of the policy, but not until I go back in to work tomorrow. If you already have something in layaway, the price can still be price matched. Just take the ad to the layaway area and have them do the price adjustment!

    • Maggie

It would be so sweet if I can price match the stuff I already have on Layaway! Fingers crossed! 🙂

  16. Nancy Kroeger

please clarify if you will be matching Walmart online prices to the in store prices or one Walmart store price to another cheaper walmart priced store.

    Thank you.

    • Brooke

We match Walmart.com. we do not match from one Walmart to another

  17. Doreen

I tried this and they said I have to pay shipping is this true?

  18. Doreen

When price matching walmart with amazon do you have to pay shipping. Cause that’s what my walmart said, they said you can not price match from online unless you are going to pay the shipping cost and all it was, was 6 2liters of soda. So I called corporate and I told them their manager was so rude to me in front of my children and he was suppose call me back but hasn’t yet.

  19. Princess

I’m not sure if you all have heard about the latest scam that may impact us in the near future. I just came across an article where bad apples have been creating 3rd party seller accounts on amazon which lists Sony Playstation 4’s for under a $100.00 then going to Walmart to have it price matched. It has been many who have gotten away with it and went as far to brag about it on social media. It’s really sad because that type of abuse makes it hard for legit savers like us. All it takes is 1 or 2 bad apples to spoil the bunch. Just wanted to pass on what I read. I’m hoping this will not impact us, but I don’t see Walmart just letting it go.

    • jstuart

Ive heard of this as well. Although I dont see how they actually did it if Walmart only matches from Amazon and not third party vendors. Unless Walmart didnt fully train all its employees..or ex employees now after selling 400$ items for 80$.
