I have a great deal for those of you who are American Express cardholders. Starting now, you can head over here and register your American Express card to be eligible to participate in Small Business Saturday. Note that registration is limited, so I suggest registering right away. Then on Saturday, November 29th only, use your registered American Express card at participating small business merchants and you’ll earn up to three $10 statement credits!

NOTE – Corporate Cards and all prepaid Card products (other than American Express Serve and Bluebird) are not eligible.

Here’s what you need to do…

* Head over here to register your American Express card (you may register one card for this offer)

* Using your registered American Express Card, spend $10 or more at participating small business merchants on Saturday, November 29th. Qualifying small business locations appear on the Small Business Saturday Map found at ShopSmall.com. You may purchase multiple items that together equal $10 or more, but you must purchase them in a single transaction to receive the statement credit. Online transactions do not qualify.

* Receive the $10 statement credit (or up to 3!). Your credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after November 29, 2014, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase.

(Thanks, Rea & Ning!)

Does anyone know if you can buy gift cards at the merchants you visit to get the statement credit ?

    • Mary

Yes Nicole that is what I do every year just buy a $10 giftcard and credit usually appears within a few days. You will get a confirmation email almost immediately after you buy a giftcard.

    • theresa

Nicole, this was my first thought too, thank you for asking!

    • geena

Every year I have always bought gift cards for whatever the credit amount will be. Ive never had a problem getting the credit from AMEX they usually approve it pretty quickly. Just make sure the business is listed on the website before you shop there. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. JulianFaux

This is so awesome! I’m all registered! Thanks, Collin!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Autumn

    Thank you!!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      YW! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Robert

Last year it did work on gift card purchases.

    • Nicole

      Thanks so much !

  5. Karen

I have read the rules……..my only question is, can we make 3 *separate* transactions that exceed $10 and get credit? i.e. Can we do the deal at the same store, more than once?

    • jac

Yes. Just make sure you do separate transactions. Any $10+ transactions will count, even at the same store.

      • Karen

        ๐Ÿ™‚

      • RB

        Jac,
Do you know for CERTAIN that we can make purchases at the -same- merchant more than once to qualify for additional credits(?) The reason I was wondering is that last year cardholders could only do it once, and others commented that the year before the amount of the credit was higher, but as far as I know they haven’t allowed multiple credits before. (Last year was my first time participating, though.) Thanks for your input.

    • Irina

I have the same question. Maybe somebody knows the answer?

      • Irina

Thank you! I did not refresh page and didn’t see the answer!

  6. Nicole

This is awesome a lot of loval food places are participating so free dinner!! So we can buy something $10 or more from 3 part updating stores and get credits for each?

  7. Ashley

    Awesome thanks!

  8. C

We have a spend $10 get $5 back for Starbucks, can we use the Amex to load the gold card?

    • Mary

Starbucks is probably not considered a small business. Just put your zipcode in the list on the site and scroll down to check.

      • Corinne

Its a separate offer than small business.

    • Chelsey

Yes you can, it doesn’t count for small business but you can load your gold card!

    • Kristie

Yes, I had this same offer but was confused because it said to spend 10 or more at starbucks store. I don’t buy syrups or mugs so I figured it wouldn’t be used. The next day my gold card auto reloaded after using it and I instantly got an email that I used the offer and the next day the statement credit was on my account.

      • Corinne

        Thanks so much!

  9. Sharon

Check your other offers too, I had a spend 5 get 5 back at McDonalds among others

    • Nicole

White this is good to know, just a reminder that McDonalds isn’t a small business so you can’t really stack the deals.

    • jac

Also $5/$15 from Walmart.com and many other offers (all separate from the small biz Saturday offer). There are often several Amex offers like this.

  10. H

do we have to shop at the stores listed on shopsmallnow?

    • shopper

Yes. It’s a program for small businesses to receive business, if they aren’t on the list they are not registered for the program..not all businesses even take Amex, but the registered ones do ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Manny

actually, for the past 3 years, the business I have shopped at has not been listed on the map. So far it is a small business and it accepts amex, you will receive your credit

    • Karen

Yes……and if they have an online store too, you canNOT purchase online. In store only.

  11. Sue

Can my hubby register his, and I register mine, and get 6??

    • Karen

      Yes.

      • Sue

        Thx!

  12. jarrod

Thanks i always look forward to this offer, it used to be more, last year was so restrictive, this year seems improved?

  13. Nicole

So up to 3 offers, does that mean 3 different stores on the same card?
Also, what about cards that are “linked together” (our Costco cards are AmEx)

    • Mary

Yes, you can get this deal with your Costco/AmEx card. I have done this in past years, registered both my Costco/Amex card and my husband’s and we got credit for both of them.

    • jac

As long as it’s an Amex and has its own distinct number, you should be able to register it. If you have an authorized user and your card numbers are the same, only one offer for the account. If your authorized user has a different number, register both!

  14. Jaime

WooHoo! I need gift cards for teacher gifts! This came at a perfect time! If I did three separate $10 gift card purchases at the same place would I receive a $30 credit???

    • jac

Technically you’d receive 3 $10 credits, but yes! Great deal! Just be sure the place you’re buying gift cards is listed on the Amex small biz map.

  15. Kris

So excited! We have a small specialty grocery store and a wine shop on the list. Once note, however, in a past year I went to a store on the map & they did not accept American Express. Go figure. I’ll def. be out shopping to use this offer.

  16. deb

I wait for this all year! This years offer is so awesome! Shop small my friends <3

  17. Eileen

Can I make one $30 purchase at one store and get my $30 credit as well?

    • Karen

No, you will only get one credit for this example.

    • Missie B.

No. I spoke with AmEx and they said you will have to make 3 separate transactions. Would be much easier at restaurants if you could do it all in one transaction. Maybe they will consider this next year.

      • RB

(I’m planning to do take-out, so not a big deal to separate into different orders for the two of us.)

  18. Pat

It looks like you can use linked cards according to this statement:

“Please note that this submitted Card number is the only Card that can receive the offer. Any other eligible Cards (including those linked to the same account) must be submitted separately.”

    • Karen

yes…..we have 2 cards, different numbers, same account. must register separately, but it works.

  19. Kristin

Make sure you ask businesses if they take American Express! Last year we chose a restaurant off the list and when we went to pay, they said they didn’t accept Amex. I was so angry! We still got the credit, but it was a hassle.

  20. Leigh

I just registered! Can’t wait to shop small and earn some cash back! Thanks!

  21. Rosa

So excited, Thank you Hip2save, both me and my husband have an American express we received, one for Costco and one to get Amazon free for one year and 3percent on groceries. All four cards have different numbers so that means $120 free!!!! This is perfect because I was trying to figure into our budget Christmas gifts for my four young adult nieces and nephews. Gift cards are perfect!!!!

  22. Lynn

    I’m all registered yay!

  23. Beth

This also works with Serve cards and/or linked to Softcard. Softcard is offering $1/transaction. This promo. And Amazon is offering $30 in gift cards also.

    • megan

What’s the amazon deal for gift cards?

    • geena

Thank you for posting this! I had forgotten about my Serve cards and was able to register two of those. This will help so much for Christmas on our tight budget. ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. ana

Can the credit come off your balance?

  25. irene

I really enjoy supporting local businesses and getting this great discount every year!

  26. Katie

    Thanks sooooo much!

  27. sarah

WOW! this is so great, 3 times this year? I am glad to read about the gift cards, a great idea since I need a bunch for gifts! YAY!!

  28. Lynn

Where can you buy the gift cards for it to work?

    • be

click on your state and see where it will work. we don’t know what city you live in, so we can’t tell which stores in your area are participants in this. you will be directed by zipcode if you use the website listed to the places closest to you.

  29. Amy

Thanks! I participate in this every year and was waiting for the offer to appear.

  30. Mrs. Frugal

    Thanks a bunch ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Kidsallgone

This was prob already asked and answered but I haven’t read all the comments. Sorry if it was. Can someone tell me if I can make 3 separate $10 purchases at the same store and receive 3 separate $10 credits on my statements? Thanks for any replies ๐Ÿ™‚

    • rebecca

if the store will allow you to pay in 3 separate transactions, it will work. if the salesperson gets huffy and are very busy and tell you they are only allowing one purchase per customer or something, AmEx will see one charge on your card and give you one $10 credit. if they see 3 transactions, you will get all the 3 credits.
the store employees/owners have no reason to NOT allow the 3 separate charges, they are not losing any money on this offer, the credit comes from AmEx. the small businesses only have gain that can come from this, as people want to spend $30 there that they may not have otherwise spent.

  32. Diane

Awesome! Usually deals get worse every year, but this one got better! ($30 rather than $10.) Thank you so much for posting!

  33. Ana

Does anyone know if I purchase a $10 gift card or reload my Starbucks card online with $10 and will get $5 credit thru Amex?

    • Lindsey

Yes, you should, as long as your card is enrolled in Amex offers and you’ve tweeted #AmexStarbucks.

  34. imjustagirl

Anybody know how to get to link to see which small business participating?
Has been doing this for 3 years now, gift card always best bet, you will credit back in couple days, but make sure the shop is on the list. Is that means next year will be $5 each card?

    • Jeannette

Collin posted it: “Qualifying small business locations appear on the Small Business Saturday Map found at ShopSmall.com.”

  35. justme

Yay! I look forward to this every year! It’s one of the ways I can afford to shop for everyone Thanks!

  36. Stephanie

Is it guaranteed that if I make 3 $10 transactions at a listed small business, I’ll receive 3 $10 statement credits? Or is this only for select chosen cardholders?

    • ldt

Yes, if you register your card.

  37. Jeannette

Thank you! I just registered my card and checked the map for locations – Green Mountain Chocolates is there! Their chocolate-covered potato chips are SO good and make the gifting list every year. YAY!
