Darn no maternity coats! Does anyone have any tips since I won’t fit in my regular one for much longer…. Can I just buy a bigger size (reg a M/L) or a mens coat? I can’t justify spending so much on a maternity coat for two months!

You can try second hand shops. Ask around from friends as well. Men’s coats tend to have more room, since they aren’t fitted like most women’s coats, so you can try that as well. I never had a maternity coat. I just wore layers and sweaters and you could add a long warm scarf to cover the part that doesn’t zip. My sister found a maternity coat on clearance at Motherhood and she actually wore it for a few years after she had her baby because you couldn’t really tell it was maternity.

        And congratulations. 🙂

      Try Old Navy

I was so hot when I was 9 months pregnant in December with one child that just wore a sweatshirt. I never wore a coat! Lol. Good luck.

I got one at Kohl’s.com on Black Friday week for about $40 or $50 after all the discounts and Kohl’s cash, but now the one I got is $160 buy one get one for $1. Who needs two maternity coats? Either way, the coat I got is not worth either $160 or $80.50. It fits me nicely (lots of room for the bump!!!), but it’s not warm enough to endure this Northeastern Polar Vortex

Wal-Mart.com had one priced right around $20 last year… But I ended up just going to target and buying a lighter weight jacket in the regular misses section (in a size bigger) to do me through the end of my pregnancy. Then I gave it to my MIL this past spring once it was too big on me. 🙂

By the way, depending on how much you like your current coat, you can try a maternity coat extender, but that’s $60 plus the zipper adapter https://makemybellyfit.com/

I discovered while pregnant that winter poncho coats worked really well. A lot of cute vintage ones on Etsy, if that’s you’re style.

    • Happymama

I agree. Try second hand shops…you shouldn’t have to pay full price for anything! Besides, some resale shops are very nice and will only sell quality clothes. During winter, I just wore mens sweatshirts b/c I was hot all the time with my last pregnancy.

If you’re not in too harsh of a climate and aren’t outside long, you could just not zip/button up your coat;) I had a bigger pea coat that towards the end wouldn’t button up, so i just left it undone.

    • Kate

Wow!! Thanks everyone for the tips!!! It was in the negatives this morning and almost didn’t zip so I figured I should stop putting it off 🙂

I bought one from Old Navy for $40 on sale. My first kid was a late spring baby, so I made do with what I had, but this kid is early spring so I needed something.

I’m on baby #5 and I have always worn men’s coats during pregnancy. They are so much roomier than women’s, and it seems like maternity coats and ten times more expensive.

    • Renee

Maybe you could try a womens plus size coat.

    • shabana

I hardly ever got maternity clothes. They were way too big! I always just bought one size up in normal clothes and was fine! Target sometimes has good maternity clearance in store.

    Go one size up…don’t buy a men’s coat….too big

  3. Angela

That is what my partner did. It was a little big in the arms and chest but worked great for her tummy!!

  4. Danielle

I used a scarf to tie above my belly like a belt. My belly was always so hot from the cooking baby anyways 🙂

  5. Jennifer

Was able to get the quilted white coat for $11.20! I have always wanted a white coat! Thanks!

  6. yonnette

Off topic but would anyone like a 20% off code for Gymboree ? It doesn’t expire until January 31. It was in my free issue of parents magazine and I would love for someone to use it, hate to see it go to waste. If so, please email me at tina101177 AT gmail.com so I can pass it along, happy clearance shopping !

Sweet. Living in Florida I hate to spend much on a jacket since I only use one about a month of the year so this is a great deal!

  10. Angela

I just wore my husbands coats while pregnant

  11. Julie

Three nice coats/jackets for $44- such an awesome deal! Happy! Happy! Happy!

  12. Debbie

I bought two. But, it said you could use store pick up. Then when I checked out it said no store pick up. I paid an extra 6.00 for shipping but still a good deal. Kind of misleading on Targets part.
