Curious about the Leap Pad 2 .. is there a newer version of it already? My daughter is 2 1/2 and I was wondering if it was worth purchasing or just waiting and getting a newer version later. Thanks!

They seem to be coming out with something new all the time! There is a Leap pad 3.

    • Allison

I would wait. They come out with a new one every year so I would wait until your daughter is ready for one.

Not only are they always coming out with new ones each year there are better deals than this on black Friday.

We have had a leap pad and my son prefers the android systems instead. I wish leap pad would just make down loads for the android system

No this year the best price was $39.99 for the LP2. If im not mistaken 2012 was $34.99. So this price is not bad.

Yes, thus one is 3 years old the new one is the leap pad 3 or leap pad ultra xDi. I do how ever recommend the leapster gs unless she is flawless at touch screen and does not get frustrated easily. My daughter who is 2 1/2 got frustrated with her leap pad 2 because it is buttonless and along with the little to no explanation in majority of the games and books the touch screen is not very sensitive (at least with tiny hands my 5 year old does fine on it). My daughter has no issue with a single kindle game but we had to switch her to the gs because I will watch her do what she is supposed to and it doesn’t work leading to frustration for my independent daughter who will not let me help when she knows she is right. I am unsure if the newer ones have the issue but just an issue I ran into.

I would recommend doing a little research. My personal opinion is that kids tablets are a waste of money. They put so much emphasis on appealing to the parents that they are of very poor quality as a tablet, the proprietary software becomes expensive. A good Galaxy tablet or even a iPad mini is a better bet, more apps are free, it can load movies and music for a long trip, can take better pictures, has tons of accessories to use in different ways. The only way a leap pad is better is that if the kids throw it against the wall. But with a durable case, my iPad mini has lasted 3 years and my kids are 4,4,5,5,7. Just food for thought, we went through 4 of the touch screen leap pads in one year, decided to splurge on a iPad for the kids to share, and it has surpassed the leap pads immensely.
