Check out this email from reader, Eno…
I wanted to share my recent frugal discovery with all the Hip2Savers. I found out that you can stream movies, TV shows, audio books, and music albums through Hoopladigital.com. I am not sure if it is available in all cities, but it is tied to the public library. So, all you need is your library card and it’s like you are borrowing from the library digitally. It is awesome and I will be ditching Netflix and saving myself an additional $7.99. Hope this helps someone because I am glad I ran across it![/h2s_box]
Hoopla is good but don’t ditch your Netflix as it is not as good.
Thru my library, there is a limit of 3 checkouts a month. Not sure if this is the same for others.
Buffalo, NY not included…that’s a shame. It would help my newlywed daughter and her husband save some money! Oh well.
Awesome! Got it and don’t have to worry about overdue fines
If you don’t have Hoopla check your library for another service. My library uses Freegal which is like Hoopla.
Mine is called OVERDRIVE….a link right on the library’s webpage.
Mine is Overdrive too, but I haven’t seen movies or tv shows on there. And seems to take forever for new books to get on there.
There is also a ‘one Click’ which has audiobooks. Great for a commute! I use Overdrive but have exhausted my Historical Fiction options.
If your library doesn’t have Hoopla there is a similar service called Overdrive that they may have!
Just discovered this last week. Here in Houston we have both Overdrive and Hoopla but the hoopla does have a limit of 5 per card per month.
There is 3M Cloud Library, offers eBooks only
I love Hoopla! I’m in Kansas City and our library allows 12 checkouts a month. They offer movies, TV shows and Audi books. I also have Overdrive, that that’s just e-books and audio books. I still have Netflix and Amazon Prime though.
Hoopla is available through the Seattle Public Library. 20 items per month. SPL also uses Overdrive.
the seattle public library also uses freegal. you can download up to 5 free songs a week!
Go Hawks!
I haven’t heard of this… how cool!
Mansfield ohio has it! You need a card and know your pin #. Also it isn’t downloaded to the device so you have to be on internet. Think the limit is 7 per month and each tv episode counts as 1. The movies are at least 2 years old but the music is new. I think the audio books too though they didn’t have captain underpants 🙁
Mrcpl ( mansfield,oh) also has overdrive and a few other ebook websites!
Hoopla through my library limits it to 10 checkouts per month total for movies or albums. It sounds like different libraries have different offers so check your local library first. I like using it.
Different limits bc the library is charged per usage
Awesome! We don’t have it but I’m going to pass it on to our local library. I have always found people at the library willing to help and excited about new programs. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thank you! I’m excited to try this out!
Great find! Thanks for passing this on. Our library participates.
Thanks. I never knew this existed. Our library participates and we can borrow 10 items a month. If we have multiple cards…. we can use it in only different devices or have to create different accounts? If someone knows would appreciate some clarification.
My little rural library doesn’t have it. Anyone have a library card number to share????
Only available near big cities. 🙁
I work at a library and we have this and Overdrive! (: Wonderful services that I use frequently.
