Yikes! Target is paying a whopping $4 million for overcharging customers. Apparently, Target has been caught charging customers more at the register than the posted price on the shelf due to expired shelf tags that were not been removed. Click here for more information.

Have you experienced this when shopping at Target or other stores? If so, did you catch the mistake in store and how did you handle it?

(Thanks, Ben!)

awww.. I noticed that somehow my target cartwheel coupons were not in my receipt when I got home from Target. Even though I went to the customer center to get cash back because $5.74 was overcharged…. Scrubbing bubble toilet gel is buy3 get 1 free, but overcharged 4 items, and the stationery… buy1 get 2nd 50% off.. also overcharged. It is difficult for me to check everything when I bought lots of stuff..
hmm…. Although Target customer service is excellent as always.

Actually this is interesting. I noticed this on three different times in three different stores. Twice on coffee pod prices and once on tortillas. I didn’t notice the issue until I got home on two out of the three times. Once I did call it to the cashier’s attention and the error was corrected. I was going to write them an e-mail directly because I like Target and figured it was a mistake that they could correct at a higher level. Never got around to writing the letter, but it looks like the problem will be corrected. Sorry to hear they are being sued though. I love the store.

Me too, I love Target. I just need to keep eye on my purchase.

Just got back from another interesting experience at Targets. We were over charged on 30% of the items purchased. When I mentioned this I was told it sometimes happens. That doesn’t work as we are NEVER undercharged. Errors work both ways. When I went on line I fould a consistent pattern of fraud against the customers. To intentionally overcharge and not fix the program when found and then just overcharge the next customer isn’t an error. It’s a planned method of cheating Target customers out of their hard earned dollars. I for one will no longer give them one cent of my money and I believe that if we all treated them the way they treat us, there would be a change in there method of operation. The charges date back to at least 2008. How could a professional company do nothing to correct this problem in over 7 years? I for one will be shopping at stores whose major method of customer service isn’t decit and constant over charges.

Just today I bought facial cleanser tagged 5.99 and it rang up 7.39! I’ve always paid attn to numbers so I caught it right away, but I can see where others (ie: my hubby) may miss it. It happens at my grocery store from time to time but they have a price guarantee where if the item rings up incorrectly we get it for free.

9-19-2015 Just happened to me got overcharged $8.80 on a $21.99 SD card.
I even told the clerk at the time of purchase it was the wrong price, he said it was just put back in the wrong place by an other costumer never even checking. I went to the shelf myself to find I was overcharged, and yes all they would do is refund their mistake. Corporate fraud! $4 million dollars fine can be covered in a weekend.
    Never again.
Not going to shop at TARGET until they do what my grocery store will do and give me the item for free.

Funny. I just complained to a sales associate about this yesterday. I was overcharged $12.79 on two items. I caught the one item as it was scanned, but didn’t catch the other until after and had to go to customer service for a refund. Since the one item was $9.99 off, I suggested the associate fix that right away so another customer wouldn’t be overcharged. I was told that leaving the registers on a busy Sunday to fix a price tag was not an option. I’ve gotten to the point with some items that I take a picture of the tag and show it to the associate when I check out because, without fail, the item rings up wrong every time. I catch it on the bigger price differences, but I’m sure I’ve missed my fair share over the years. I want my piece of the $4m!! ๐Ÿ™‚

It happened today (no expired sign); it happened a month ago (no expired sign) and it happened last week (no expired sign). I caught all 3, which made the visits more time consuming while an employee checked. Many people don’t check and that’s what they count on…like most big businesses.

they are at it again..and I never even received an apology..luckily I noticed mistake before leaving the store and checked and brought the shelf tag to customer service in Quakertown PA..not the first time either!…small box of forks priced at $2.52 on the shelf..up and up brand came up $2.99…so what;s the deal..was not outdated tag!

Here it is, 3 years after the initial story, and Target’s shelf prices still have discrepancies with the scanned price.
I caught a .60ยข discrepancy and reported it to their corporate office, in November 2017. Went back and decided to check to see if it was ever fixed, and sure enough, it wasn’t, in March 2018.
Target is a joke. If you find a discrepancy, always, always, bring it to customer service, period. They need to learn.

The lawyers get $3M and the rests are dispersed for the 5M customers, each getting a sum of .20 cents. This is what they teach you at law school, is go out and scour for class-action suits where the big bucks are where and don’t have to do a damn thing! I’d rather pay Target for their honest mistakes then to these leaches so-called lawyers.

Happened to me yesterday, only caught it by accident but I’m glad I did. The pictures I bought were listed as 74.99 on the shelf. Went to put them up on my wall and the sticker on the back says 64.99, that’s a decent difference. I’ll be checking prices going forward.
