Thank you! We take my 2.5 y/o to these (HE LOVES THEM and I get some alone time while he and Daddy go). Just went to the one at Lowe’s on Saturday and forgot the next sign-up started today!

I forgot I registered them for Vday!!! I had never knew of this before!!

Quick question, do you have to arrive right at 10AM or anywhere between 9AM and 12pm?

    • tia

Home Depot is 9-12 and Lowe’s is 10am.

    • Maureen

For Home Depot you can usually show up anytime between 9-12 but sometimes they run out. Lowes is more likely to run out and if you aren’t there within 10 minutes of 10 my lowes will give away your kits to other people waiting who didn’t sign up in advance.

  3. Tami

Do they actually help the kids make it or are you on your own? I also read before that some places have you sit on the floor to work on them. Does Lowes do that?

    • Kerri

My experience with this depends on the store. One of the Lowes provided buckets to sit on. The one we live near now you can stand by a table or sit on the floor.

    • Maureen

You help your children make them. They just give you the pieces and instructions. The lowes I’ve gone to have had tables but I usually sit in the floor with my kids to build because it’s easier for me.

    • hjoplin

I have never had someone help make ours before or even offer (he is 2 years old right now) and i have messed it up before – got ahead of the directions… lol. They gave me an extra kit and i went home.

At my lowes you have the option to stand at the tables provided, or sit in the floor.

      • Just Me

I think the floor is easier since the tables are sheets of plywood and everything bounces when anyone at the table hammers. We love going!

        • Shirley

I try to make sure there is a bucket under my grand children’s spot for hammering.

  4. Mayra

Thanks for the answer! the one in my area is already full so we will try and make the next one!

    • Mandy

The sign up seems to open at midnight Eastern time. People in the west can sign up Sun night instead of Monday morning.

I would love to take my boys but don’t think sitting on the floor in the winter would be good. My husband would most likely be working & unable to help. I have an 11, 9, 6 & 18-month-old. Not sure my youngest would like being in his stroller while I help his brothers!

    • Just Me

You could grab the kits to go but you need a hammer at home. Home Depot paints so wear old clothes. A second adult definitely helps! Maybe ask a friend or grandparent.

    • Ashley

you could always take your kids to get the kids and then complete them at home at your own table. They do ask that your kids are present to pick up the kit, but that does not mean you have to complete them in the store.

    • M

My 6 yo can almost always build hers without much help so I am able help the 5 and 3 yo kids. When they were younger I just used one of the large shopping carts that looks like a car as a playpen for my smallest and it’s totally doable! (But we stayed away from paint πŸ˜‰)

thank you for posting this we’ve gone to 3-4 of these before and my 4 yer old twins love them… and it happens that their favorite thing in the world is monster jam!

  7. alicia

Love these! I have found that bringing a step stool will help with the build. I have an almost 3 year old. We usually find some raised cement flower bed etc and can build on the step stool. We’re in Ca and they’ve all been outside so far.

  8. Holly

Is this something a 11 year old boy would enjoy? My husband and I mentor him but wasn’t sure if these are geared more towards the younger end of the age spectrum.

    • yes_indeed

Sure…my son is 8..after a few times helping him he began to understand reading the diagram so that he can complete the project as independently as possible. He’s is really excited about his accomplishment.
      Go for it!!

    • Shirley

As others have commented he could take it home. I have a friend who’s 15 year old son and 16 year old daughter enjoy going with their 7 year old brother.

  9. Jen

We’ve done this about 5 or 6 times – love it! My 10 year old son enjoys the things he makes and it helps him develop his skills. Our Lowes DOES have tables (about 3 or 4) with chairs. And it’s free! πŸ˜€ He still uses the Monsters University chest from last year!

  10. Tracy

Thank you. My husband and my daughter just took my grandkids yesterday to Monster Jam. They are thrilled they will get to make one now. Thanks for the heads up.

  11. Gaby
