Yey finally! I’m a breastfeeding mom and can’t have dairy. Been going to coffee leaf because they have almond milk/coconut substitution available. Now I can do Starbucks also 😀

    • Monika

careful if you’re breastfeeiding : “Ingredients /in Starbuck’s ‘coconut milk’/: Water, coconut cream, cane sugar, tricalcium phosphate, coconut water concentrate, natural flavors, sea salt, carrageenan, gellan gum, corn dextrin, xanthan gum, guar gum, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin d2.

Ingredients in most legit coconut milk:Coconut milk, water.”

      • jessie

Well, it may not be the healthiest but it doesn’t look like it has dairy if her baby can’t handle that.

      • Elen

Thanks for the heads up Monika!

      • Jesse

Amen. Crappies “coconut milk” I’ve ever seen 🙁

      • Naomi

Carrageenan is very harmful even in small doses, especially if you have IBS. With they would just use real coconut milk. 🙁

    • issys mom

I ended up making my own coconut milk the other day bc I was wanting a latte. I’m also on a dairy free diet due to nursing. Can’t have soy or almond milk either. It was actually very easy to make. I heated some water, blended it for a bit. Then added more room temp water to it. Then strained the coconut. But if you have a vitamix, maybe the shredded coconut will blend right in?

      • issys mom

*add the heated water and shredded coconut to a blender *

        • Shanell

I love homemade coconut milk and it’s so easy to make. It saves money and you know what you are putting into your body!

      • Elen

Going to have to try that

  2. Timothy

Unfortunately, it’s not actually coconut milk. A simple googling of “starbucks coconut milk” turns up a handful of health-minded blogs that list the ingredients, the primaries being sugar and water. 🙁

      • Luda B

Beth, thank you for sharing – this is upsetting. So many people will not be aware.

        • Kimberly

Its starbucks the only thing clean is the coffee black. Anything else you add is fake. I think most people know this its fast food. It is a great alternative for those with a dairy intolerance. The cows the milk come from eat way worse and are given worse chemicals, that is upsetting how much people are unaware as they are not listed as ingridents but pass through the milk.

      • Elen

Well that’s disappointing. Thank you for sharing.

I bought one on my way to work this morning. It was good. I get that it’s not “clean” or “paleo” coconut milk, but it’s still a great non-dairy treat. I figure I’m going to Starbucks for a treat anyway and this way I get one minus the dairy bloat.

    • Laura

      That’s my thought as well

    • Timothy

true! it’s fine for a treat- I just hope people who are looking at a full time cleaner-eating lifestyle aren’t deceived.

    • jessie

+1 I drink regular milk but this is how I feel about Starbucks period. I am sure their syrups aren’t super healthy but I get sbux as a treat, not a nutritious meal. If people want healthy making food at home is best, period …

    • CarlyB

I agree, it’s a nice alternative. But it stinks they can’t use a cleaner source. Starbucks is expensive, so I expect the quality to be there also.

  4. amy

Does it have carageenan? For me, carageenan blows. pun intended. I get so bloated when I have it 🙁

    • Timothy

      yes 🙁

    • Beth

Ingredients: Water, coconut cream, cane sugar, tricalcium phosphate, coconut water concentrate, natural flavors, sea salt, carrageenan, gellan gum, corn dextrin, xanthan gum, guar gum, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin d2.

  5. Monika

This is not real coconut milk. Be careful, chemicals yum.

    • Kimberly

Its starbucks nearly everything has chemicals. Its a treat I do not understand why everyone seems to think starbucks is healthy to begin with and complaining about the ingredients. If its not black coffee it already has chemicals. Even the milk has chemicals they just are not listed out at least the coconut milk is an option for people who can not drink milk. It is a nice treat for those who need it.

  6. Ashley

Off topic but i got a hello fresh $40 gift card in the mail and am not going to use it, code is GO13201502 Enjoy!!! New customers only too, redeem at hellofresh.com 🙂

    • April

      Thanks Ashley!

  7. Surely

Probably only costs an extra $1! Such a deal NOT

  8. Luda B

I emailed Starbucks and expressed my disappointment. If enough people speak up, they will eventually listen. They pass the cost on to us anyway, so what is the difference if they use a regular Coconut milk instead of unhealthy mix.

I encourage you to email them. It takes a minute 🙂

  9. Jamie

I was wondering what they were going to add to the coconut milk to make it thick enough. I’m excited to try it since it doesn’t contain dairy.

    • mel

carageenan is a thickener, and I think xanthan and guar guar are too.

  10. Kay

They probably add other things to get it to be thick enough to form foam for lattes.
