For the runners out there: do you typically buy your running shoes a half size up?
I hadn’t really thought about it because I don’t buy many non-athletic shoes, but yes my athletic shoes are all size 9 and my dress, casual, and boots are 8 and 8.5. But I also wear thicker socks with running shoes.
No, not always. I have been a long distance runner for 20 years and I don’t order up, but that is just me. You need to go to a running store and get measured and fitted. You have a foot that is unique to you, so you aren’t going to know whether to size up, size down, or go with your normal size unless you get checked by someone who is who has experience with running and running shoes.
I do! Your feet expand when you run. Granted, I don’t buy them if they feel uncomfortably big (that can cause its own set of issues), but in my normal shoes, I can get away with shoes that fit like a glove. If they fit JUST right when you try them on, chances are when you run you’ll hit your toes or have blisters because your feet take a beating!
Always. Not doing so can lead to serious problems as your feet expand on runs (particularly longer ones). I’ve always been told when fitted at the running store that it’s necessary to do so.
