The day the crayons quit is only $6.02 in hardcover too. Its probably one of my favorite children’s books ever (perfect gift for teachers) and I have read alot as a former elementary librarian.

As a new librarian, I would love your suggestions for read out loud books. I LOVE the day the crayons quit!

      • Dorie

Have you read the Elephant and Piggie books? All of my kids, kinder -5th loved when I read those to their classes because it’s all about the way you read it. Same author does the Pigeon books (Mo Willems) and my kids loved those too. Some other favorites include Ten Rules You Absolutely Must Not Break if you Want to Survive the School Bus, The Uglified Ducky (but I didn’t actually read that because the cd that comes with it so cute, so I played the cd and showed the book), Help Me, Mr. Mutt! (another really good author/illustrator team, they are sister’s and a great author visit too if you are in Texas!), Pete the Cat is fun for younger kids, Charlie the Ranch dog (written by the Pioneer Woman)…and so many more, but my brain is failing me. My email is dnichols1123@gmail.com if you want to email me and I can send you more ideas if you want. I just quit last May to stay home with my kids. Hope there is at least one in there that you haven’t already read.

Thank you so much! Very helpful!

I love the illustrations and rhyming text in Karma Wilson/Jane Chapman’s “Bear Snores On” series. My toddler daughter also loves Pete the Cat because we read the refrain in those books in a singsong voice (you can download a free version of the song for each book, but we haven’t yet)

        • angelalewis577

My toddler (and I) love the whole bear series!

    • Melissa

I love “The Day the Crayons Quit” as well! What a delightful story with delightful art as well!

    Got it!

  17. Heather

Got this and Dr. Seuss’s “Oh the Places You’ll Go.” I saw a cute idea awhile back where you have your child’s teachers throughout school each write on a page in the book, and then give it to him/her for their 8th grade (or even highschool (if you want to do it that long) graduation. Sounded like a cute idea and I’m going to do it since my daughter will be starting preschool soon. =)

    • Alisa

Thank you for commenting that that book is also on sale! I ordered for the same purpose!

      • Heather

No problem Alisa! Have fun with the book.

    • Katrina

Thanks, Heather! I want to do the same and have been waiting for a great price. My twins start preschool in the fall. Perfect timing!

    • Dorie

My daughter is in 3rd grade and I have been doing that every year since she finished daycare. Its a little tricky because she always asks questions, but its fun to do and I know she will be so excited when she graduates and I give it to her. She has loved all her teachers so its even that more special.

  18. Emily

Thank you so much! I just ordered one for my neice and nephew’s 3rd birthday and also for my best friend’s child’s 3rd birthday. I’m sure they’re all going to love it! This would make a great baby shower gift.

I also ordered the hair gel on this order and two of my dog’s favorite balls. They’re great for playing outside in the dark b/c they light-up. Our winters are dark when we leave and return from work, so we needed something to tire her out. We bought them for close to $10 each this winter, but now they’re half that! I’m stocking up since it is the off-season. You can change the batteries, so that helps when the light goes out.

If you have a puppy or a young dog that loves fetch and has to be tired out, you’ll want to consider stocking up on them too! They fit nicely in the chuck-it launcher. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QC9DTU/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also – does anyone with small kids know where you can buy the stick-on earrings in the store? I found them on Amazon but they seem more expensive than they’d be in the store. I just don’t know where to look for them.

    • babs7881

I don’t know where to get stick ones but we loved the Bink’d products. They are little temporary tattoos perfect for ears. They often have specials and are easy to apply and last for about a week sometimes longer.

    • Heather

Hi Emily – I’d try Claire’s. I’m almost positive I’ve seen some there. I can’t speak about the price, but generally they have pretty decent prices. I actually had forgotten about stick-on earrings. I LOVED them as a young kid. Hope you find some.

    • Desiree

We bought some for my daughter who just turned 5 at Claire’s. They are different shapes and colors. She loves them!

    • Emily

Thanks! I will look there and the tattoos sound like something she would enjoy!

  20. Tracy

Thank you! I’ve been wanting to get this title for a while now. And at that price I got a few for gifts too!

  21. AmyH

This is a GREAT interactive book. All three of my kids really enjoyed it. Its really a lot of fun to read! Great price!

    • Clare

Totally agree. This is a great book. All of the 3-5 year olds at a party were completely engaged and engrossed with it when I shared it with them. Herve Tullet books are great for the imagination!

  22. Lori

Picked this up for my 2 and a half year old! Ty.

  23. Jen

Thanks. I bought two copies. We recently checked this book out from the library and we’ll be glad to add it to our collection.
