We’re starting by seed but my little gardener might like this too!

  2. Tiffany

My store also had by one get one free seeds.

    • Amy

Seeds at my store were 50% off. I think I bought about $20 worth!!

  3. Lisa

Remember Lowes will match and beat the price by 10%

  4. Kathryn

We got $.78 marigolds. Great for helping to save bees!

Not sure if Home Depot is carrying plants without neonicotinoids. They actually harm the bees–there were lot of headlines about the neonicotinoid insecticides last year and controversy over Home Depot carrying plants treated with them. Might want to give them a call.

      • Eileen

A quick google search and it looks like Home Depot still uses plants that contain the neonicotinoid insecticides (implicated in killing bees and butterflies,) but it looks like Lowes and Walmart have decided to stop selling plants containing those pesticides.

        • Melissa

I don’t know about Walmart, but I just read that Lowes will be phasing out the selling of plants using the insecticide. They haven’t actually stopped yet. An article I read today said, “Lowe’s said it will phase out neonics in shelf products and plants by the spring of 2019, as suitable alternatives become available.” I would include the link to the article but it seems that whenever I have done that on Hip2save it doesn’t post. If you want to read more search for article, “Lowe’s To Stop Selling Neonicotinoid Pesticides That May Be Harmful To Bees”.

I don’t have a Home Depot in town… Anything like this at lowes?

    • Nicole

Yes, Lowes has Bonnie plants too, at least they do here in upstate NY!

    • Shea

      Lowe’s has them 5 for $10 too.

Does the sale apply to organic Bonnie veggies and herbs?

I live in a wooded neighborhood and have a small area that gets full sun for growing my vegetables. Last year I got all my seeds started and then transplanted into beds and pots.
They were happy and hearty started to bloom but they weren’t setting any fruit. Then I realized there were no bees! I got a box of Q-Tips and did my own pollinating. The bumble bees finally showed up in mid summer. The Q-pollinating worked and I had a bumper crop of veggies for myself and neighbors. I went to Home Depot today and got my BOGO seeds and put out the welcome mat for the bees!

Glad you were successful with your pollination efforts. If people want to learn more about the honeybee crisis, a great movie to watch is More Than Honey (on Netflix). You can see how areas in China have to hand pollinate their apple trees. Glad to hear Lowe’s is phasing neonics out… just wish it were a bit quicker than 2019.
