I’ve never been a member of these membership stores. How does the price compare to other stores? Do you really save money by buying in bulk? I’d appreciate some feedback.

    • Just Me

I mainly buy hamburger 90/10 for $3.80? /lb). Chicken ( tho you can get the same price on a sale $1.90 /lb) Bread products are a good deal. Some yogurts and cheese. Sweet Hawaiian rolls are a way better deal. And spices

    • deziree

We’ve had a membership to Sam’s for a few years. In all honesty we have to bring a calculator to see whether or not it’s cheaper. The ground beef, chicken breast, fruits and seasonings are usually cheaper there compared to our local grocery store.

    • Jo

I buy all my produce, dairy, and seasonings at Sam’s. I also buy their diapers! Meat can be hit or miss, but many times it’s cheaper. I’ve been a member for years and definitely think it’s worth it. Plus my family loves eating at the (super cheap) cafe!

    • Jo

Oh and over-the-counter meds are a great deal there too.

      • YG

Pharmacy is open for non member as well.

    • pandoraaddict

A warehouse still is like everywhere else, some items are cheaper, others not..know your prices.

Can’t speak to Sam’s, but at Costco we have bought electronics which most come with a 2year warranty, in addition to our credit card warranty. Household paper products, Stacy’s chips – big bag for about the same price as a regular bag in the grocery store, cheese better priced. Vitamins/OTC meds. Perishables. They also have a store coupon book.

FYI, you don’t need a membership to eat at their food court nor to get prescriptions.

      • Kathryn

Good point about their electronics. We bought a Visio TV at Sams and it randomly died a week or two before the 2 year warranty expired. They replaced the entire TV with the current upgraded model and refunded us the price difference because it was now cheaper than when we bought it. I dis agree about the perishables. I find Costco and Sams produce good quality but way more expensive than any local store.

    • Leah

I just got this Groupon and went yesterday. It’s for a Sams Plus membership–so, all the perks. I calculated the price per ounce of the block feta and I got for $12 what I would have paid $30 for at Aldi. We also got a GREAT deal on a 5 lb bag of shredded cheese. I feel like the lunch meat variety was fantastic, and really cheap. My husband loves their corned beef. I think you should be discerning but the savings are sooo worth it if you know your average grocery store prices and can compare. They’ve got a permanent member in me!!!

    • Asmith

We were members for many years and after I started using coupons we did not renew. We went the few “free”days a year and purchased yeast, some spices, generic Benadryl, potato salad, and bread flour. In my area the fuel is consistently at least 20 cents cheaper. Sam’s is also conveniently located for my family. We did a past similar groupon and it was worth it for us.

    • ashlynn

We buy fresh chicken. It’s so much cheaper than the local food lions/ commissary. The pieces are huge. Trash bags, granola bars, peanut butter, & dishwasher detergent are all better priced at Sam’s in my opinion. Also, dog food our boy eats a 55 lb bag every month so paying $25 at Sam’s is a blessing. We love it. Military also get a $15 gift card when you get a membership or renew. 🙂

  2. Aly

We did this yesterday! The salsa is realllly good, and so are the cupcakes and rotisserie chicken. Also got a 40 pack of bottled water for $3.98. Be prepared to wait a while in the customer service line if you go at peak hours like we did.

    • Maribeth

      We love that salsa too.

  3. T

Its actually an even sweeter deal because it is a PLUS membership. Woohoo!

My family uses one card and my parents use the complimentary card. (Even in another state!) So it really gives two families membership! Awesome, awesome deal!

The coupons totaled 25.00 worth of product, plus the 20.00 gift card! So you end up getting your plus membership for free! Incredible!

    • julie

Hi T, What do you mean by a PLUS membership- is it the upgraded one? TIA!

      • T

Hey Julie! Here is an over view of plus membership. https://www.samsclub.com/sams/pagedetails/content.jsp?pageName=samsPlusMembershipUpgrade&mobiledetect=false

But, I love how you get extra savings on things you may buy. At times they have signs attached that say “plus members save additional 3.00” or something like that. We had regular membership, and it would tell us how much we could have saved if we had plus. It was close to 80 bucks if I remember correctly, and I typically only bought formula and produce there. 🙂 hope this helps!

        • julie

That’s awesome! I think the upgraded membership was like another $50 last year. I thought that is what you meant but it seemed to good to be true! Thanks for letting us know and the link 🙂

          • T

Yes! It was! Thats why I didnt do get it last year. So this offer is a steal! 🙂

    • M

Hi T, did you put your parents name on the complimentary card? I like the idea of giving it to my parents. Thanks:)

      • T

I didnt! They went to their sams club, and told them I was giving them my other card. And they called me to verify. I said yes, and they got their picture taken and such down at their sams club! 🙂

  4. Jennifer

I’m waiting for a Costco membership deal like this…..

    • Happymama

I did the Costco deal when Collin posted last time in the fall :). It’ll come around again.

    • C

I’m hoping for a Costco deal too. I prefer Costco over Sam’s. This is a great deal thought so I may just go ahead and get it. Thanks Collin.

  5. diane

Ebates has 6% cash back on groupon right now.

    • Meredith

      and ShopatHome has 10%

  6. Kathryn

I don’t think Sams or Costco can beat the price of anything ‘couponable.’ Huge bulk amounts of dry staples (sugar, flour, ricenn etc), baking soda, yeast, vinegar, butter around (1.99 a lb), frozen fruit, cheese, chips, and water are what I consider cheaper at Sams/Costco. Otherwise things like bars, frozen food, and cereal are definitely more expensive than a basic sale at a store.

  7. mikeB

I’ve been to Sam’s and stopped a long time ago. Found I bought too much and it got wasted.
Off topic a little….Is it just me or is the picture of the black haired woman gazing at the Sam’s associate on the top of this tip kinda creepy? It’s probably me. lol

  8. Nora

For my family Sam’s is one of the best places to purchase tires in the area.

  9. Mila

Did anybody ever use similac checks at sams club?

    • T

I did! Best deal I could find!

    • S.

Don’t know about Sam’s Club, but they do take Similac checks at Costco.

  10. Ruth

I got in on this kind of deal last year and it worked out well for me. Although I was already a member, I got the certificate and waited till my membership expired before redeeming the certificate for another year. The wording this year makes me think I might not be able to do that this time. Has anyone re-upped with this yet?

  11. shelly

Anyone know if the $20 gift card is available for use on the day of purchase or on future purchase? Expiration date?

    • Amanda

I used mine the same day i got membership, and it was just like a regular gift card dont think it had a expiration.

      • shelly

        thanks for the info:)

    • Just Me

Whenever I’ve redeemed sams groupon, you get your gift card and coupons upon signing up. Use right that day if you like

  12. Amanda

Im so glad i looked at the comments. They actually did not give me the plus membership, and just gave me the basic one. The sams savings green card. So i called them and they upgraded it to what it should be. So glad i read the comments. I never had been a member before so had no clue what they were doing when i signed up..lol 🙂 As a matter of fact, i saw alot of people at CS redeeming their groupons and they were getting the green card too. Must be screwing alot of people. Shame on that club.

  13. brandice

My membership expires several months ago…can I buy this and get this

    • Sarah

      You should be able to!

    • C

I could be wrong but I think I read that your membership has to be expired for 6 months before you can do this.

      • brandice

Thanks a bunch it has been that long

    • YG

Just open one under your family member and give yourself complimentary card. I do that every alternating between my spouse and I. ^_^

  14. Mattie

    Do they take coupons here?

    • Kathryn Meyer

Sam’s will have their own “coupons” but you can’t use manufacturers coupons there. 🙁

  15. Mattie

Are their prices cheaper than walmart? Can anyone please tell me 🙂

    • Kathryn Meyer

It really depends on what you buy. I buy rice in 50 pound bags and it’s a lot less. My milk is $1 more per gallon then at the grocery store down the street.

  16. Sarah

Just FYI, when I redeemed the groupon today in Atlanta for a new membership, the sales clerk said regardless of the listed exclusion, that club would allow existing members to use the groupon to renew their membership and get the perks. Might be worth calling your local club to check if you are already a member but are interested in this deal!

    • brandice

Thanks a bunch…I am in Atlanta as well

      • Mourrene

Really? My membership expires in May…which location in Atlanta?

    • Ruth

thanks Sarah, I’ll call my local club to check!

  17. Cynthiaj81

I have actually gotten great deals on cell phones there! Compared to the VeriZon store I saved $100 on just one phone. Other things I religiously get there are cheese, some cleaning supplies, yogurt, butter, medicines, some toiletries and yes we have done tires there. I have a membership but am considering putting my husbands name on this one to satisfy the new membership requirement. Thanks !

    • YG

Yes, cell phone is cheap when they have promo. I got my iphone for $99 and paid all of it using my swagbucks gift cards. Lol.

  18. Sasha

Want to save more?? Kroger has a coupon that you can download to save $15 when you purchase two $25 or more Groupon Gift Cards. So it’s like paying $35 for $45 SAMs Club Membership worth $142.24! How COOL is that :).

    • Mel

Thank you SO much Sasha!! Huge savings!!

    • Erica

      Sasha,

I found that deal by accident, thanks to a cashier! Lucky I went to Ralph’s to buy the Groupon gift card. I always buy gift cards, so I can budget and earn gas points. With this deal, you get 2x points = 100 pts = 10 cents off/gallon. Plus, you’ll have $5 banked at Groupon and all the Sam’s Club gifts

This is a deal that keeps on giving!

  19. Catherine H

If I had a membership on November 13th of last year and gave my ‘extra’ card to my spouse. Can I buy this in his name and he can give his extra card to me?

  20. YG

Toilet paper member’s mark is always on the cheap side. Eggs, milk, soya milk, lactaid, spices, chickens, BANANA (lol), peeled garlic, etc.

  21. YG

I just got the plus this year too (living social deal) and at times they have discount just for plus member (banana for a whole bunch for $0.46, rotiserrie chicken for $1.99, etc). I combine swagbucks gc and use it to shop there. Spent maybe less than $1 of actual money.

  22. Samantha Holder

If I sign up, can I lend the card to my mom to shop? She lives with me but still likes to do her own shopping.

    • Dawn

They take ur pic. But they dont look at it on the card. U do get to add a second person for free

  23. Karen England

I am trying desperately to purchase this but I cannot sign up because it’s asking for a promo code and the site says that there is no coupon code necessary! HELP!!!!!!!!

  24. Dawn

It says that is not for renewals, but they do have a special code (2222) to make it work. A regular membership is $45. And the plus is $100. It is an amazing deal. And you get earlier shopping hrs and special deals too : )

  25. Taylor

So we buy the membership on groupon, then go
To the SAMs store to redeem it? Is there anything I need to print off?

  26. Shelly

Where do I find promotion code or how do I skip that part?

  27. Erica

You can get this for only $35!!!!!

There is a $15/2 $25 Groupon gift cards in the Ralph’s app. Thank goodness the cashier mentioned it to me. I don’t normally shop there. Just thought Id buy a gift card to earn 2x gas points.

MUST buy TWO separate Groupon gift cards, $25 or more each.

  28. Erica

Meant to say, check to see if the coupon is available for other Kroger family stores.

  29. Amanda

Can’t get this deal any more:(

  30. love

    I’m a good day today

  31. RM

I signed up for this deal, but never used my free cupcakes coupon. It said it expired 7/27, but does anyone know if I can still use it? Are they strict with the date, or is there wiggle room? Thanks…

  32. Bobbi

I cant find the long on tk but iy
