All those movies pictured have already come out on DVD or Bluray.
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just buy it?
Some of these are still $14-$20 on DVD. At a $1 per ticket, it’s definitely cheaper, plus it’s a fun family outing!
Unless the DVD is $3 or $4, I don’t see how it would be cheaper. We went to a movie every week last summer. It’s about the experience and outing as well. Our theater also has $1 popcorn and $1 for a small drink.
Guess it depends on the theater that is around you that is participating. We have a Marcus Theater near us, so we’re paying $15 since there are 5 of us. In our case, it’s about the same as buying the movie. We did it last year and our kids liked it. So, we’ll probably do it again. I agree with the others. It’s about the family outing for us.
kids love going to the movies.. its a great experience for them. I personally hate paying the price of the movies for kids its just crazy to me. The 1$ movie is perfect and you get to spend time with the kids!
Can anyone tell me what age they started taking their little ones to see movies? I know it will vary, but I just want an idea.
I took my kids as infants, because i had older ones who’d enjoy them. I’d say as soon as your little ones pay attention to tv, would be good. For a $1 you can always leave if they’re bored. My youngest is 2.5 and i think this will be her first year she really pays attention. All my kids are glued when there is a tv on, i think because we don’t watch it.
I started my oldest with a program similar to these in our area the summer he was 3. Sometimes he fell asleep within 5 minutes, sometimes he watched the movie. And then there are those kids who throw a fit- but since it’s a theater full of parents with young kids, you’ll have that.
I took my 3yr old last year. The summer programs are the best time to “test” the movie waters with you kids. There are so many other noisy kids in the theater it will drowned out any noise your children make. Its fabulous! 🙂
Exactly what I did, “test” during a free summer movie. We have a Phoenix movie theatre at the Legends-Kansas City.
Thank you everyone! I will “test the waters” this summer for that price. If it doesn’t work, nothing is really lost.
I m confused. Does the price apply for adults as well??
Yes!
My theater ( mansfield, ohio) let you do an icee for the snack pack drink
I wish there was a participating theater near me. My kids would love it! Nothing near Willoughby, Ohio.
Nice to hear abt a fellow hip2saver where I live…. I am bummed abt no theatres nearby too… would have been fun!
Check with your theaters locally. Both of the companies here have similar programs. They are Wehrenberg and Carmike.
Showcase Cinemas has “Bookworm Wednesday” in the summer. Free admission to select movie with a book report.
Man, Carmike never has good deals like these! 🙁
Our carmike has had a similar program in the past. Check their website 🙂
I have been taking my almost 4 year old the movies for a year. All kids films except for avengers which he loved and sat thru.
Love summer movie programs as it gets super hot here in So Cal, it’s nice to sit in cool movie theatre for couple of hours. There’s also free movies on the beach (after sundown), just bring your blankets and lawn chair. I’m tempted to go see Jaws in LB as you sit right next to the ocean!
