SWEET! Just updated the post! 🙂

Anyone know the latest news on this food being bad? I’d love to do the deal but I’m hesitant.

    • Dana

Don’t buy this dog food, it is horrible.. look at the reviews online

      • CW

I regret buying this with all my coupons. My parents are not rich and if I knew I was slowly killing my “fur half-brother” I never would have bought it. I too would never feed or donate it to another dog. It’s been 3 months since we lost him. It hit the news a few days after he died. My friends’ dogs died from bloat from it. From the bottom of my heart, spare your dog. Please don’t go through the nightmare and sadness we had to.

    • CW

We strongly believe it killed my parents dog and we know it killed 2 of my grade school friends’ dogs.

My parents springer didn’t like it and we always yelled at him to eat his food and are now guilt ridden that he knew it made him sick.

    • Emily

My parent’s vet said that it was fine and they didn’t have to be worried. Their dog has been on the healthy weight stuff for years, loves it and is very healthy.

I just searched this food and there are lawsuits of internal bleeding and some cases of death. Yet Purina has not announced a recall. I buy food for dog rescue groups but I’m gonna pass on this deal.

As with anything else, you get what you pay for. Not everyone has $25-$50 to spend on a bag of dog food. My 3 dogs have been eating this for years, and are happy. Do I wish I could buy them premium dog food? Of course. Could they be healthier? Yes. Do I think the dog food is the reason they aren’t as healthy as they could be? Maybe, but as with any living creature, there are a myriad of contributors to overall health and wellness.

In other words, some people have to eat at McDonald’s, while others can eat at the Ritz Carlton. They have even found that some of the top dog foods, who claim that they are made in the United States, have ingredients in them from questionable countries, like China. Heard of Blue Wilderness?

If you have the means, here is an excellent link to high-quality dog food brands, all made in the USA (and most, if not all of the ingredients in them come from the USA too):

    https://www.usalovelist.com/natural-pet-food-and-treats-made-in-usa/

And if you don’t, you can always make your dog food naturally at home. Homemade chicken or beef with rice and vegetables is a dog favorite, and you can even mix in some of of the high-quality (and expensive) USA dry in there. I know our pets are our babies, and that all of us just want the best for them. But, just like all of us can’t buy everything from Whole Foods, it simply isn’t feasible to expect everyone to be able to spend big $$$ on pet food. For dry, this is a WONDERFUL deal. Thanks, Collin!

    • Gail

Oh, I forgot to mention, two of my dogs are 10, and one is 7.

    • Lauri

Very well said, Gail! I have 4 dogs. Three of my dogs have eaten Beneful since out of the puppy stage, dog #4 is still a puppy. They are now 5, 7 & 8. They have never had health issues. I’ve been contemplating changing foods but haven’t yet.

    • Kelli

There are alot of options between the Ritz and McDonalds though. There are so many other options. If it could possibly sicken your dog, isn’t it worth finding something else rather than save a dollar or two a bag?

      • Dana

You are so right. Perfectly said.

  5. L

Verdict is still not out. I can get other quality brands cheaper. My local humane society is erring on the cautious side and not accepting this specific Purina brand as donations.

    • Gail

Would you please share with us what those brands are? Thank you!

  6. Jess

Collin I don’t see the $5 coupon was this only online ?

    • Melanie

Jess, click the link in the post. It will take you directly to the coupon so you can print it.

  7. Kelli

There are plenty of other dog food options on the market that don’t cost an arm and a leg that won’t sicken or kill your dog. I personally have a friend that fed Beneful and her dog was seriously near death and cost an arm and a leg at the vet to save him.

There are several online dog food review sites that can help you find a reasonably priced, healthy dog food other than this one. Saving a few dollars isn’t worth the life of your dog.

  8. Rachel

I will say that I fed my dog beneful from when we rescued her as a puppy, at at a year old she started having seizures. She had to take medication twice a day with blood draws to monitor her levels because she was having multiple seizures a day. After hearing all the bad reviews on beneful, we switched her to iams and slowly reduced her seizure meds to see if perhaps the food had caused it. Now, I have no proof, but she hasnt had seizures in months since stopping that food. And I would never feed it to another living thing again.

  9. Gail

While I understand and appreciate this discussion, it would be nice if posters who use a different dog food would take a moment to mention what they use. It is not helpful to recommend someone not do something, without being able to provide a reasonable alternative. So far, I have seen one person mention Iams, and if you scour the internet, you will find a lot of people who believe their dogs have gotten sick and/or died from that brand as well. I was even looking at Rachael Ray’s Nutrish today, and while at least the first ingredient is meat (not so for Beneful), for the price point, it does not appear to be as healthy as it claims. But, as far as dog foods go, it is middle of the road, and has overall positive reviews.

Wading through this sea of dog foods is incredibly difficult. I want to start my dogs on Merrick, but it is VERY expensive. All of us want our “babies” to live long, healthy lives, but aside from making their food from scratch, it does appear that spending less $$$ compromises quality. Any thoughts on other dry dog foods?

    • Emily

We feed ours Purina Smartblend. It is actually the only brand of food that she’ll eat. We tried so many varieties of food and this is all she would eat, we even tried one of those really expensive and she wouldn’t touch it. She likes all of the varieties of Smartblend except the ones with Lamb. My parents use Beneful and their dogs are just fine and always have been.

    • Ashweerose

My oldest pitbull has tummy troubles, she can only eat Purina Pro plan. Honestly, there are frequently coupons for this in the Sunday paper and even on the bags themselves at petsmart. For my two I buy a 35 lb bag for about 35-40 dollars or less depending on if I have coupons.

  10. janis396

Please don’t promote things that kill. Beneful is one of the worst foods to feed a dog.

    • Gail

Please read the second paragraph. Thank you.

  11. Kathy

Will never use Iams due to their cruel animal testing. Any healthy recommendations that are cruelty free? My lab has eaten Beneful with no issues, but I usually feed a mix.

    • adri

Same here!!! I throw their coupon in the garbage! Where other stuff I put in a drawer in case there is a sale.

  12. an

I have 2 dogs and they both eat beneful since they was puppies. They r 2 now and very healthy , one of my small dog missing left paw since he was in his mommy belly.and he doing good with beneful. I have tried other expensive dog food when I have more money. Sometimes I make rice and chicken for them as special meals when I can afford it.i do want to feed my dogs good food. But I dont want to end up losing my house and not be able to give my dogs a house. I hope beneful will do better with their products.thanks for the deal collin.

  13. Gail

I appreciate the recommendations, everyone! It is so hard trying to find something my dogs will eat, and that is healthy and safe for them. I contacted Merrick, and heard back from them today. I had asked for a sample, to see if my dogs would eat it, before buying one of their expensive flavors. Do they have any? Nope, and they don’t have any coupons right now either! But if my dogs don’t like it, I can exchange it for another flavor! Yeah, ship back an expensive, HEAVY bag of dog food for an exchange (no store near me sells it). Sure thing, LOL! 😉

I just check the deal for beneful and is not in the store in Bedford New Hampshire
