If I needed a carseat this is the one I would get. It will keep your kiddo rear racing til 4 years old And harnessed to 7 at least. 🙂

  2. Jenn

I need a forward facing car seat that can hold my little one. Does anyone have any suggestions for one that is a good car seat but costs about $100 or less? TIA 🙂

    • vmm

at that cost, I’d recommend an Evenflo SureRide(it rear faces too but it forward faces til very high height and weight so will last til boostering for almost all kids) plus you can get them at Kohls.com with a 30% code and Kohls cash sometimes for $60ish

the Evenflo Maestro & Harmony Defender are the other two often recommended by techs and users in that price range.

car-seat.org has lots of great recommendations and information.

      hope this helps!

Unfortunately kohls doesn’t allow coupons on baby gear anymore but you still earn kohls cash.
Evenflo sureride, harmony defender or graco nautilus are all a great choice for a forward facing seat under $100

        • vmm

really? I thought it was just certain brands…bummer!

the nautilus is a great seat too but I’ve only seen it seriously clearance at/under that price. we love our nautilus:)

Kohls doesn’t accept coupons on car seats anymore. 👎😕

My two kids have both been happy with Evenflo Titan. Good prices at Amazon.

    • Ashley

Evenflo Maestro is great. My mom uses them for the grandkids.

Sounds appealing, but fyi, I’ve saved money NOT buying the combo. When you have multiple kids within a year or two of each other, you need certain size car seats. I can’t imagine buying 2 car seats for $500+. I need to “hand-down” a car seat at different stages. If you’re just having an only child, I think this would be more practical.

I have this carseat. I love it!! Worth the hefty tag.

Maybe it is just my kids seats…lol…but ALL the seats I ever had got so dirty after a year maybe two. I would not even hand them down to people I know when my kids were finished with them and yes I cleaned them constantly. I can’t even imagine having the same one 10 yrs. If you’re a clean freak with your car, never allowing the kids to eat or drink in the car, play in the dirt, etc., this might be the seat for you!

Completely agree! I recently had to throw away one I planned to keep forever. It was just gross, even after several cleanings. There was no way I was keeping it for 5 more years 😉

I broke down and bought a liner for the car seat. The last straw for me was the day I had to decide between letting my kid ride without a car seat or strapping her into a pile of vomit. Opted for the vomit then faced about 2 hours’ clean up task at home.

Yes, I know the mfrs don’t recommend liners… but the kind I am using does not interfere at all with the mechanics of the seat; just covers the upholstery. Makes it easier to keep the seat between those rare instances of taking the entire seat apart to launder and air dry the pads overnight.

My mom found a sewing pattern and made a liner. Turned out pretty well, but she admitted it was difficult, and she is a great seamstress. I think an easy DIY would be to take a good sized thick fleece blanket and cut slits where you need access to straps. Make sure the fleece won’t interfere with the straps or connections to the car. Fleece is great because no need to hem all the cut edges, and also crumbs and bits of grass, etc., seem to stick to it. This method is better for an older toddler, not a tiny baby who could get tangled up in loose blanket edges.

Now I can pop the liner out and shake it out. Or for a wet mess (diaper blowout, vomit, spills), it catches much of the mess. If you have puppy pads or comparable from the hospital/doctor’s office, that can catch whatever falls through the cracks. Again, make sure placement does not interfere with the car seat mechanics.

Completely agree! I actually bought this car seat and ended up returning it after using it just a handful of times. I quickly realized that it will get gross fast and the quality of the car seat was cheap, so 10 years is unrealistic. I exchanged it for a slightly more expensive car seat, the Chicco Nextfit Zip. I recommend this car seat to EVERYONE. It zips off the frame so easily and you just throw it in the wash. It is such high quality, they have thought of every little feature, including the idea of the straps automatically staying to the side (I think they call it Flex Away?) so the straps don’t sit in the middle of the seat and you have a hard time getting your baby in. Also, it goes to 70 pounds so it lasts as long as the Graco 4Ever.. (My 9-year-old is 71 lbs). It is also the easiest car seat I have ever installed in my life. No, I don’t work for the company or anything like that, it’s just an awesome car seat. Worth every penny.

You know car seats expire after 6 years? So If you’re using this for 10 years it’s not very safe-the plastic breaks down and it becomes brittle. I recently discovered my daughter’s car seat is expired so I ordered a new one for $50 from amazon. My baby is using my older daughter’s old infant seat (it’s still good) and that came with the stroller for less than this.

    • Jen

Many seats do have a 6 year expiration, however, this seat has a 10 year expiration, so it’s fine to use all the way through. HTH!

      • Dana

wow I’m surprised they can make them good for 10 years now. That’s good, you can get more use out of them.

    • ashley

Not all seats expire after 6 years. Some are 7, 8 or even 10 years til expiration. The graco 4ever is 10 years. 🙂

    • Megan

The new car seats have longer expiration dates.

      • Amig

This is a great seat. Very functional if starting from birth. The Facebook page “car seats for the littles” to get recommendations on seats. Each child, situation, and car is different. (Certified car seat tech) and expiration change with each model and year it was made sometimes.

I HIGHLY recommend a convertible seat… I have the britax but also looked at the graco ones! If I had the money right now I would be buying this! My son was grown out of his infant one by 8 months so it was such a waste of money since 8 months is wayy too young to have forward facing. Wish I would have skipped the infant seat and gone convertible right away!
