      🙂

Me this morning: “Darn-it, out of dog food, have to go target today”…before I left I looked on here, and BAM!!! cheap dog food. 🙂 Don’t you love when things just fall into place.

    • nicolegammeter

      Perfect timing! 🙂

  3. Melissa

I would never feed Beneful to my dog even if they paid me for it. Yuck. :p

    • terri

I agree Melissa, if you google anything about purina it’s all bad. I love my dog, she’s only here for a few years, I don’t want to feed it “cheap dog food” or things that will make her sick. Our pets are with us for such a short time, I want to make those good, healthy years.

      • Lindsay

Seriously, you don’t have to make others feel bad and like crap for feeding their dogs this. At least they feed their dogs!!!

        • S

I agree! My dog can only eat beneful, when I tried the more expensive dog food ($70 a bag) he threw up a few times a day, when we took him to the vet they had to give him a shot to soothe his tummy and they said just feed him the food that agrees with his stomach. That doesn’t mean I’m killing my dog. I’m sure ya’ll have had fast food or some kind of “bad” food before in your life. Does that mean you were trying to kill yourself while eating those food? :-/

          • S

And I would like to add, thanks h2s for all that you’ve done!

My dog is almost 10 and he’s super healthy and never get sick (until I tried to switch to a “better” brand dog food).

    • meg

Well you do what you think is best for you. My dog…now 14 years old had been eating beneful for a long time. He is healthy and happy. Talked to my vet and there is no solid proof that this dog food is doing this. It has not been recalled. Just lawsuits. I know many people who use this brand…some have pure bred dogs and others have mixed breeds. No problems what so ever.

It seems like lately every time a deal for Beneful is posted, we get posters warning us of the claims against Beneful dog food. By now, I think all of us regulars have read it before, and are well aware of said claims. If we could all please remember that Collin is trying to help us save money, and if a pet owner wants to take advantage of this deal that is his/her right to do so. Can we please just respect others’ choices here?

As an aside, my dogs have been eating Beneful in one form or another all of their lives. But now that they are seniors, I am looking to switch it up. I picked up a small bag of the Purina One Smartblend Chicken & Rice this morning, and they all ate it! So, when I go back to the store, I will be getting a bag of the Vibrant Maturity, since they are ages 7 and over. I would like to thank the ladies here who recommended this brand to me. And, thanks so much for the heads up on the coupons, Collin! My dogs are picky eaters, and they love both of these! 😀

    • Happymama

Purina One is a great choice! I was told it’s the best of this brand. I’m glad your dogs loved it :).

  5. vchavez132

I don’t know anything about Purina and how “bad” it is for our dogs, all I know is that my dog didn’t like the taste of it. It took months for him to finish it. Nothing bad happen to him either..

  6. holly

Don’t think it’s an issue of cheapness, just safety. I buy the cheapest dog food I can find. There’s currently a lawsuit about Beneful causing kidney failure and death in thousands of dogs nation wide. Something about preservatives with antifreeze – like qualities.

  7. J

I have three dogs. I feed them only Purina green bag dog chow. I have one dog that has sensitive tummy. She throws up every brand I have tried other than the green bag of purina dog food. I have tried the Beneful recently since it was made by Purina. I have read the comments on here.I let myself be persuaded that I must be doing something wrong if I bought Beneful, But guess what, not only did my dogs seem to love the taste of it, not one of them got sick and there are still here.

  8. Amanda

When I looked at the target ad, I don’t see the gift card deal? Is the deal this week?

    • paula

These are not marked at my store with the promotion but I have done this deal 6 times since last week. I made sure to get the healthy weight as shown and have gotten the gift card each time no problems and received the cartwheel discount as well. Worked just like the scenerio Collin posted. I have not tried any other kind beside the healthy weight though. Afraid it would not work and can not argue because there is no signage at my store about the gift card promo. My dogs LOVE it and this is the best price I have gotten for I feel good dog food so I am thankful and so are my dogs. Thank you Collin and team!

      • Amanda

Thank you…I will give it a try tomorrow!!

        • paula

You are welcome. Hope it works for you also:) Great deal.

      • Jocie862

Cashier wouldn’t take both $5 coupons. Said they had the same number. 😞 glad it worked for you.

        • S

Oh really? Hmm I just did the deal and the cashier took them no problem, and she even said wow sweet deal! 🙂 my expiration date is March 2016, so two bags will basically last my lil Pom till then!

  9. jimmy

good deal but it seems the cartwheel discount comes off after coupons

FYI, Purina dog food made my dog have two severe siezures this past Sunday. After the first one I was terrified he was going ro die. Then after the second, I did some research as to what causes a dog to have siezures. Poison stood out to me so I asked the hubby if we changed anything in his diet. Come to find out He said he picked up a bag of Purina prime cuts dry dog food because we ran out of our usual dog food. It seemed a little far fetched that dog food could be the culprit but I looked it up regardless because I needed answers. I was shocked by what I found in regards to that specific dog food as well as Purina Come and Get it. Both types in both dry and wet
foods has caused vomiting, diarea, disorientation, siezures, and death in a wide range of dogs. There was hundreds of personal reviews on just the one page I opened. I can’t imagine how many more families four legged friends were affected with no resolution from the company. Now I am a sucker for a deal and would have been all over this deal like the next person being I have fed my dog Purina Pro Plan salmon with no issues. However, seeing as they have made no attempts to fix the issues with there Prime Cuts and Come and Get it line or offer those affected an apology, refund, or compensation I refuse to offer them my business what so ever. I have yet to contact them in regards to how their product affected our dog but plan to do so soon although I have a feeling that will be a dead end. My thing is if anyone finds that their pouch is suffering similar symptoms dont hesitate to question thier pets diet.

I call B.S. about all these claims! My dog has been eating this stuff for 4 years with no problems. As a couponer I had several Purina Beneful bags of dog stored so when all the hype surfaced in the media about that particular brand being recalled I gave their home office a call and was beyond impressed. You should call them Salsam7 because they were very informative and provided me with many options. Propylene glycol is not ethylene glycol aka antifreeze which -duh- is very dangerous. Propylene glycol is approved by the FDA and has been used for decades in dog food (not just Purina) and many of the foods we, yes humans, eat like candy, sweets, soda pop, cake, artificial sweeteners and America’s #1 love “ice cream.”
However the confusion lies within newer automotive antifreeze uses Propylene glycol as an additive. Contrary to people’s belief, their dog food has not been recalled, so what exactly are they suppose to fix?. Even without the recall Purina customer support was amazing! They offered to refund me for the 8 bags of dog food I had in storage and sent a bulk load of coupons. The following week I got a return follow up call to make sure I received the coupons for free food and to let me know if I had any further questions to call them. They thanked me for calling, my inquiry and directed me to sites where I could obtain further information from the FDA…
So if you think you dog suffered a seizure from their dog food -call them ASAP. They want to hear our stories and concerns.
I like never rant or vent on here but it’s getting ridiculous w/ all the complaints, negative post/s and the begging and bartering is just nonsense.
People if you do not like something Collin post or looking to discuss trading gc, etc please move on, enough is enough…
It’s like our momma’s said if you dont have anything nice to say do not say anything at all. rant over, sorry not sorry…

    • Emily

My Mom’s vet is also a large animal vet and he said that they use the chemical that the lawsuits claim is bad as medicine to help settle an upset stomach and the small amount in the dog food isn’t going to hurt them. He also told her that when they use it on large farm animals that are sick – like horses or cows, they use a whole lot more of it and they aren’t dying either. I just took this opportunity to buy 2 bags of this for my Mom and Dad’s dog.

One of their dogs did die recently… but it was old and had a tumor. I’m not blaming the dog food.

    • Salsam7

I appreciate your input Tara, I will be giving Purina a call soon. I just want to take the rest of the week to observe my dog. I am happy to say that he has not had any more seizures after I realized the dog food was the problem and removed it from his bowl and thoroughly cleaned his dish. Now please understand that my incident did not involve the Beneful line and am glad to hear you have been using it with no problems. Believe me I don’t wish the heartache from seeing my dog in such a state on anyone due to feeding my dog Purina Alpo Prime Cuts Savory Beef Flavor. This was our first experience with this specific Purina line as I stated before we had used the Pro Plan Salmon & Rice with no issue what so ever. Can’t say it helped with his coat or shedding as our vet stated but still no issues otherwise and I would still be using it had not been for this past incident. As far as calling BS on peoples claims, I can only speak for my experience and say it was not BS. I was down on the floor with my dog hugging him until his seizure stopped then terrified when he decided to stand and try to attack myself and my husband because he was disoriented. My dog is lab and pitt mix so you can just imagine my oh crap feeling when he was growling and barking at us while peeing all over the place because he had no control of his bladder. It took about 5 mins or so for him to snap out of it and be somewhat his self again. After that he was breathing very heavy, panting, dazed, and would not respond to his name said symptoms didn’t completely subside for about an hour later. Not thinking his food was the issue I just hoped that this was a one time thing because he was back to normal that is until about 11:30pm Sunday night just about 2 hours after he had another small helping of the Purina Alpo Prime Cuts. The second seizure was no where near as bad as the first and he didn’t come out of it trying to attack just heaving breathing, panting, dazed, and lost control of his bladder again. When I realized it was possibly the food my husband advised me that our dog had a larger serving of it in the morning which I can only assume is why his first seizure was so bad. After doing the research and having a better understanding of why my dog had the seizures I sent my husband to Walgreens to buy some Activated Charcoal to help remove what ever toxins that where in the food from my dogs system. Also I made him some white rice and ground turkey of which he devoured along with as much water as we could get him to drink. My theory was we needed to get that Purina Alpo food out of his system asap. It wasn’t until 3am that we finally got to bed on Sunday and have since been feeding him white rice with ground turkey with mixed vegis. I plan to continue this diet for the rest of the week. Then we will seek out another dog food and introduce it slowly. Can’t say I will use Purina though. It was just to real for me and their is no excuse recall or not. I would like to have my money back but right now that doesn’t matter I am just glad I found out what the problem was before it was to late unlike many other families as per the complaints online by loving pet owners. I guess you can’t understand until you see your dog suffer like I did, like so many others have. Many of whom never questioned the food til it was to late. Some of which gave the food then took it away not realizing it was the food and then reintroduced the food only to have said symptoms return. Sad, very sad. Let it be known that all the reviews I read where is regards to the Purina Alpo Prime Cuts and Purina Alpo Come & Get It both dry and wet. Also, I am only putting this out there to notify people that should ones dog become ill like mine or show symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, seizures, disoriented, internal bleeding don’t underestimate the likelihood that their dogs diet could be the problem. As far as my dog, I only witnessed the seizures as I didn’t see when he went outside to go what came out. Again I had no reason initially to suspect there where other symptoms.

Also, just because the FDA approves what goes in our food doesn’t necessary mean it’s good for us. There are so many FDA approved items that they say are ok in small amounts but in large amounts not so much. However, if you look at all the issues people suffer these days don’t you think it has to do with what we eat and I don’t just mean the fast food and sweets. Also, just because a specific chemical is ok for us doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ok for our dogs either.

As far as Collins’ post, I would be the first to tell you I love her site and all the money she has saved me, not to mention the many people I have turned on to her site. I mean why not share a good thing. However, if my experience can help someone else not go through the same suffering then I will share. I am sure Collin reads all these post and makes a final decision to post or not post and knows when her followers can make their own informed decision. I mean think about it don’t we rely on reviews to make informed decisions all the time from house hold goods to automobiles to baby products to dog food. Why jump into something without being informed and possibly taking a risk. I have referred to comments people leave in regards to deals Collin posts all the time in order to inform myself more completely about a product I am on the fence about. Just because your tired of reading said complaints doesn’t mean it won’t be helpful to the next person in deciding to try Purina, more specifically Purina Alpo Prime Cuts or Come and Get It. Maybe, there is a follower that is using said products and has a dog suffering form some of the same symptoms and the bills are piling up with no idea what could be causing it. Now, maybe my post will help that one person, or save their dog, or save money in doctor bills knowing all they have to do is possibly change their dogs diet. I sure hope it does help then I would know something good came out of my experience.

Is it just the beneful? Or is the purina one included?
