We had the original of the leap pad consoles and I would not recommend them. I actually would say to get a cheaper android kids tab or a family tab like some of the Samsungs. Reason one is the battery life is AWFUL on leappads even after they made them rechargeable, reason two is the games are only for leappads if you get a game on your android(we don’t use apple products so I know nothing of how they compare) you can use it on multiple devices, reason three the games can be expensive if you can’t find a good sale, also the touch control was not very sensitive.
On the plus my son loved the Letter factory game but the bonus content never downloaded right and only occasionally worked. He also loved one of the penguins of Madagascar games for math.
When the screen on his leappad got crushed(or some thing happened to make it completely fracture) I got him a Kurio 4S on clearance for $50 at walmart its better, still has a short battery life BUT it can have the same free educational games that I can get on my phone that Collin posts about from time to time with the benefit that the kids are not playing on my phone.
