After browsing around, I spotted knives for as low as $12.99 (regularly $22+). Please note that I am not familiar with this brand, however, after checking out some reviews on Amazon, this brand appears to be pretty popular!

These are EXCELLENT knives. They are all we use. Chefs often use them. They are an extremely high-quality brand and worth every penny, even at full price.

Totally agree. Couldn’t recommend them higher. We love our set and will get more. Thanks Collin!!!!

The santoku hollow edge is my go to knife!

Ditto. These are very high quality lives and even the smallest knives are usually $50+ range.

I think you may be mistaking this series (Gourmet) for the higher end Wusthof “Classic” series.

The Gourmet series is one of the lowest quality/price in the Wusthof line and you can regularly get the 7-piece starter set for about $120 on Amazon whereas the Classic series will run you more than triple that ($380+).

Yep. I have the classic. They are the best.

While I completely agree that these knives are wonderful, these prices are the same as the normal prices at Williams Sonoma. I’d prefer to just buy them there with WS amazing return policy as well as the convenience of having a local store.

The knives that are being offered at the huge discount are stamped from one sheet of steel. They are nice knives for home use. They are the lower end line that Wusthoff offers. They will not last 20 years such as a knife that is individually forged. However, for home use or for someone not wanting or being able to invest $100 or more in one knife they are good.

I have to agree. I have owned a set of Wusthof (Classic line) for about 15 years. They were expensive. They are worth every penny. They never brake or rust and rarely need to be sharpened. I’ve even washed them in the dishwasher the entire time I’ve owned them with great results.

However, the “gourmet” line is not the same quality. I received a set of the Wusthof Goumet steak knives as a gift a few years back and they rusted within a few washes. I will never buy another knife in the gourmet series because of this experience.

If you’re going to spend even this much on some knives, then my advice is to do some research into the different series that Wusthof and Henckles make. Pay just a bit more money and get some in the top of the line (like Wusthof Classic or Henckles Twin or Henckles Pro S) that are forged (and not stamped).

100% agree with you. My classic series knives have lasted forever. They stay sharp, they have a very balance hilt that make it easy to use, they are sturdy and durable. My gourmet series steak knives not only rusted, but the tips all broke off. And while I do like my gourmet series santuku knife, it doesn’t have to same weight in my hand as a chefs knife. The plastic handle chipped, and I’ve been told you can’t sharpen it, I’ve tried to sharpen it but it’s just not as good as it once was. I would stick with the classic.
