I’m pretty sure Collin has verified her links
I have used this site before and haven’t had any problems (it’s been about a year since I last used it). But of course, anytime you enter your social security number, cc info or even your address just be aware that security issues can happen. 😉
Realize that these types of sites don’t provide “real” credit scores, they just give estimates based on your credit report. If you want to get your real FICO score (that lenders use to assess your credit worthiness) you have to get it through the myfico website, or if you happen to have a credit card that offers the free monthly fico scores.
I also highly recommend the myfico forum boards if you are needing to learn about how credit works, get info on credit cards, how to prepare for buying a car/house, the folks there are pretty helpful.
That said, I’m signed up with Credit Karma so I can view my credit report, so these sites can prove useful.
I have used this site for over a year – It is safe and relatively accurate on your score.
I would not say it is exact – but it is pretty close & gives you a good idea of how it is adjusting based on your spending/credit use.
And here is my sign up link if anyone is interested: https://csesa.me/?r=V2ZNWvIns
Never click on a link as above–an unscrupulous scammer could be stealing your personal info. Also, If the site does not offer a secure connection (HTTPS) avoid it at all cost–just too risky.
This site and credit karma are not accurate at all. They said my husbands score was nearly 60 points higher than they really were. Do not trust these sites for accurate results!
We’ve used Credit Karma for several years and have never had an issue. I have found that they are usually slightly below the actual score (which I prefer to being over). Our family members have always been about 20 points higher, but we are all around 800 so the increase is a bonus. I appreciate the Credit Karma e-mails that notify us if a score has changed (often by 5 points or less).
Get a Discover credit card and your free credit score is on your monthly statement
You get 1 free copy from each of the 3 credit bureaus at annualcreditreport.com once a year. You can stagger and get 1 report every 4 months. This is the one you are entitled to by law.
Creditsesame.com has actually been a lifesaver for me. I had some fraudulent activity on my credit with someone trying to open cards in my name, and each time it happened, Credit Sesame was the first to let me know there was an inquiry into my credit, even before 2 paid sites I was using to help me keep my credit safe. I have used it for 2 years and while the credit scores aren’t always completely accurate, the level of credit monitoring is really helpful. Also it will give you an idea of things that might be affecting your credit negatively.
