Amazon is offering up this highly rated Joovy Spoon Walker for just $69.99 shipped – which appears to be the lowest price this has dropped to.

Walker meets highchair. The spoon walker combines these two essential products into one to provide the perfect balance of eating, playing and learning to walk. For meal and snack time, the spoon comes with a super sized tray that has a removable insert that can be wiped clean or put in the dishwasher for convenience. Once mealtime is over, there is lots of room for play. The extra large tray has plenty of room for all your child’s favorite toys.

I thought baby walker was banned long ago due to safety reason?

I don’t think they’re banned but the AAP recommends against them due to head injuries from falls down stairs. I personally never wanted to take the chance that I might forget to close a door/put up a gate where needed one day. I think most walkers have a safety feature with the wheels that helps with this now though.

My 8 month old goes in the walker sometimes. How hard is it to close the basement door? If you pay attention to your child you shouldn’t worry.

I think the issue is that everyone has distractions – especially if you’re sleep deprived and/or have more than one child. As in, you remember 99 times and forget that one time when you’re running downstairs to do a load of laundry and the phone rings or another kid needs something. I know at least two grown adults in my extended family who fell down the stairs in walkers back in the 80’s. Both were just fine and are actually quite successful adults today but both had amazing moms. Not every accident is attributable to bad mothering. Humans just unfortunately make mistakes. At any rate, walkers are likely safer now.

We didn’t even had a basement. I witnessed my brother (as a baby) going fast in a walker, ran over an object on the floor that sent him tumbling, and landed head-first. Luckily he recovered fully. He didn’t do too well throughout the school years though and I still don’t know if it’s related to the accident.
