Everyone should check their groupon accounts and bank accounts. I checked my bank account this morning and found two charges from groupon for $100 and $200 that I had not authorized. Upon further inspection my account had been hacked and they got $300 worth of spa gift cards through groupon and tried to get $400 more, but luckily the fraud department at my bank caught it before those couple could go through..so everyone keep their eyes peeled! oh..I’ve had to cancel my debit card, close my groupon account and I’m having to wait 7-10 days for the $300 to go back into my bank account..not a good start to the day!! Rant over! lol! πŸ™‚

        Thank you! me too! πŸ™‚

Thank you for letting us know. I deleted my card info to be safe.

Hi Jamie! The same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. Two $25 gift cards to Brookstone was ordered with my account. I caught it when I looked at my banking online. I immediately called customer service, and after they cancelled the groupons & reversed my charge.

    • laura

That is EXACTLY why I will never ever give out my debit card # online.

      • Laura

same here. Only use my debit/atm at the ATM. I removed all credit card info from Groupon awhile back due to rumors of this happening to others.

I have noticed Groupon automatically stores your cards used to purchase. The only way I was able to go in and delete the cards i have used was from my laptop/desktop. Good luck, Jamie.

    • Jiya

Can you please tell me how to delete it. I couldn’t figure it out?

      • lynn L

        Jiya,
Sign in, go to “my account” then to credit card section and then it gives you the option to delete your card. Good luck!

        • Jiya

Thanks for reply! …but it’s not showing me that option. Only edit card.

          • lynn L

Any chance edit card will give you the option to delete? If not, I think it would be worth the time to call them if you have any concern of your card on file (IMO). My account was hacked too about a year ago (I was not charged for anything as I used my discover card and they are great about fraud charges) so I am always making certain that nothing in kept on file. Good luck!

            • Jiya

No….I can’t see it. I think I have to give them a call.

I have noticed Groupon stores any card you have used in the past to make purchases. The only way I have been able to view and succesfully delete these cards is from ny laptop/ desktop. Good luck, Jamie.

WOW – I was just coming here to post the EXACT SAME THING when I read Jamie’s post. I had over $900 charged on my AMEX in the last 2 weeks. I bought a Groupon in late August, and Groupon automatically stored my card number. My account was hacked and the scamster bought Brookstone Certificates (which they redeemed within hours) and a Camera Lens. AMEX Fraud Dept was great, but they said they get 5-10 calls A DAY from people who have had their numbers stolen from Groupon! Groupon doesn’t care as it is the Credit Card Companies who eat the loss, not Groupon. Personally, I will never buy from them again – my security is not worth it – but if you do, make sure you do not allow your card to be stored (they do it automatically) or you will be a statistic like me.

ok, please clarify. did the groupon fraudulent purchase show up under “my groupons” when you were in your account OR did you just notice a fraudulent charge on your credit card with nothing showing up under the “my groups”

    • Vicki

Dani, in my case the gift cards showed up under my groupons section. Also I saw the pending charge in my bank account. It happen on a Sat. & eas in pending to be charged on Monday. Unfortunately it did clear, but they reimbursed me 2 days later.

I had an issue where someone hacked my account and changed the email to one that I had never heard of. Took 6 weeks to straighten it out with Groupon, but luckily nothing was charged–I couldn’t get into my account via computer, but was able to see what was going on through the groupon app on my phone.
