lol! Thanks for the awesome video of creating a gift closet. I actually started collecting gift items after Christmas every year and save it in a drawer inside my home. It is so helpful and less stressful for when Birthdays and Christmas roll by. By the way, you look beautiful in the video, Collin ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks Kendall! And yes, I love having a gift closet for all the parties that seem to pop up throughout the year.

Cool idea about gift closet!:) Collin, what kind of bag that you were using for storing those items? Where did you get that? Thanks for sharing!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I honestly can’t remember where I purchased that storage container as it has been a few years BUT this one should work pretty well for you!

  3. Liz Ob

I have those exact bags! Better than a tote cuz you can form the bag to its contents

Just got back from my B&N, nothing on clearance are like pictured ๐Ÿ™ Although I did pick up some Mr Men books. I loved these as a kid and started to read to my kids recently, so not a total lost ๐Ÿ™‚

    Collin,
You make me shop too much lol. But cant pass up the great deals. Just thought I would also mention that I was able to make a purchase on JCP last night with that awesome code deal and I received an email this morning saying it has shipped. So for those that were worried it would cancel, doesn’t look like it will!
    Thanks for all you do!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome! Thanks for sharing! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Kay

Hi Heather, what JCP code are you referring too? Thanks!

I’ve been thinking about gift closets lately. Although I don’t have one per se, if I find a great deal on the kinds of toys my kids like (and that aren’t gimmicky or dated) I’ll buy extras in case we need them for gifts. However, I’m almost hesitant to give gifts from the stash because I worry about the need for returns, primarily for defects (I read too many reviews!), especially when I do not have a valid receipt to provide (usually the return period has passed). I’m probably just oversensitive to this because I once purchased a $100+ Lego set on clearance for 50 percent off and gave it as a gift, only for the recipient to discover on Christmas morning that the box had been opened, partially built, and returned to the store. There were so many different bags in the box that it was impossible to sort them out or even determine if the full set was there. Of course, the recipient was halfway across the country, the receipt was no longer valid, and the set had been discontinued–the perfect storm! If anyone has any gift closet wisdom, I’d love to hear it. I thought I had a good system (buying classic toys that my kids like that get generally good reviews), and I thought that Legos were about as fool-proof as you can get, but even they have hidden pitfalls. (Lesson learned: check the tape seals!)

I want some wisdom on how to have some self control to not give all the gifts to your children before Christmas and birthdays haha.

This same thought has crossed my mind too. I always make sure to check the safety seals and packaging to make sure it hasn’t been opened. If there isn’t any packaging I will look closely at the product and make sure it’s not damaged and doesn’t have missing parts. So far I’ve been lucky and haven’t had anyone ask me for a receipt.

    • Colleen

We once had that happen with a lego set too, but was for our child. We looked up the parts list on the lego website, checked what was missing-was almost half the set, and requested them on the replacement parts part of the web site, and they sent them all for free no questions asked. We were very surprised and pleased.

    • Lori

Bought a Lego set from Walmart once. Box and every bag was sealed. . . BUT all minifigures were missing. Big disappointment since it was a bday gift for my son. Walmart exchanged without issue, but I was surprised since it was Lego brand.

Thanks for letting us know about this sale! I went to my store and found a huge selection. I just got a few items today, but I’ll be keeping an eye on this stuff to be marked down to $2. I know our store had a $2 table in October last year.

    • Jennine

Me too ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks Collin ๐Ÿ™‚ we have a party to go tomorrow for a boy and all I had was girl stuff ๐Ÿ˜‰ this was perfect! And fun.
