I have never had a good experience with these gift certificates. I actually had a manager tell me that they had to increase the bill if one was used so it really doesn’t save you any money.

    • Mbro

I had the same problem. Two of the ones I bought the owner actually put a sign on the door stating they no longer accept these certificates.

      • Pat

Yup. I have been to a few restaurants that have that sign up too!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So sorry to hear that Pat πŸ™

      • Pat

        Thanks Collin.

    • Haseena

I had the same problem. One place told me they no longer accept them and another place was just really not happy about me using it. This was about 2 years ago so now I don’t buy these at all.

    • irene

A few restaurants have refused the certificates because they have tried to end the promo and Restaurant.com kept selling them. Most of them are mom-and-pop places that give away food with these deals since they don’t receive money from your certificate purchase.

  2. Amanda

Hi Pat where was your issue? I just bought them from Sorrentos pizza before I read your comment

    • Pat

They do not like accepting them and I have been told that they have to up the price to recoup the certificate per the manager.

  3. Mo

Hmm – so the local restaurant I would use the certificate for requires a $50 purchase – but the highest certificate they sell is a $25 one. I put two in my cart and applied the promo code, which still brought it down to a total of $6 – but I’m not sure I’d be able to walk in, order $50 worth of food and then pay with two certificates to cover it. Does anyone have experience with this? Not gonna order until I know for sure πŸ˜‰

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You can only use one certificate per month, per restaurant. Hope that helps!

      • Mo

Yes it does – sorry I missed reading that! Thanks Collin πŸ˜‰

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

          That’s ok! You’re welcome! πŸ™‚

    • Misako

So, my understanding is In order to use your $25 certificate, your bill has to be at least $75 plus tip…

      • mamasweetpea08

depends on the terms for the particular restaurant you are purchasing from. some have a minimum purchase amount for different certificate values while others do not

  4. Ann

I use these all the time and have never had a problem! This is a great deal! Just bought 2 certificates

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So glad to hear that Ann, Thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚

  5. Amanda

How do you use the certificates? Do you have to have a printed copy or do you use them off of the app on your phones?

    • siska

You can use the app, they’ll just write down the certificate number. I never had any problem using them at the different restaurants either using printed one or just showing the certificate through the app. Just make sure you mention you’ll be using the restaurant.com certificate before you order, to save you the headache if they decide not to honor them.

  6. Ren

Note that they have a minimum purchase stipulation. For instance, to use a $50 certificate, your bill must be at least $100. Added to that gratuity of 18% (even for parties of less than 4) and you don’t really save much. Savings is really only about 10-20% is what I ve seen. Sometimes it is good enough but Ive dealt with poor customer service when using this certificates. It totally ruins your dining experience .
I ve had smiling waitresses turning rude and making inappropriate remarks when we whip out these certificates.

    • Rosie

So technically it’s a coupon. I’m not paying for a coupon.

  7. Stephanie

I always go to this site when we are going on trips, and have never had a problem using the certificates. When we went to Anaheim for 8 days, we spent less than $200 out of pocket (including tips) for 4 people to eat 2 meals a day for the entire 8 days.
Unfortunately, there’s only 2 restaurants in my area that participate. πŸ™

    • siska

I agree, we’ve saved tons of money on some nice restaurants on our trips. Unfortunately, the list of available restaurants is shrinking over the years.

  8. Sarah

Never had luck with these :(. Either was told they no longer honor them, that the ‘site’ was selling them illegally, that ‘management’ told them not to accept anymore OR the one time it was taken I was treated so poorly after I said I had one I would never go back. I’ve tried in multiple states too (military family so we move a lot).

    I’ll stick with groupons….

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Sorry to hear that Sarah πŸ™

    • Pat

I find it is better to sign up for the restaurants emails and get coupons that way. Love all the BOGO from IHOP and MIMI’s.

  9. Crystal Robinson

I just got $150 in gift certificates for only $16.00!! This is so EXCITING we have moved to Baltimore MD and I have wanted to go to nicer restaurants to experience the wonderful food! What great memories will be made on this deal!!!

  10. dbarker

I’ve used these in vegas and in utah and I’ve never had a problem. I buy a ton of the subzero ones for different locations so I ca. Take my kids to get ice cream. These are great

  11. Heather

Where can I find the rules about expiration and only using one per month? I see the minimum purchase info.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

These never expire! You can click on the “terms and conditions” bottom right of the page when you click on the link above. Also once you put in your zip code you will have access to more information at the heading of the page where it states “who we are”. This will bring you to more information about it as well. Hope that helps!

  12. Sandy

Is it true that you can always switch restaurants as long as it is the same value? I bot some long time ago and do not see the restaurants on there anymore.

    • sara

yes. I just switched / exchanged a voucher last night if you have a $10 voucher/certificate, you can exchange for a $10 gc and use it to buy new vouchers/certificates.. you can buy a $5 worth of voucher/cert today ang use the remaining $5 some other time.

      • mel

Yes. I bought a coupon for a local sandwich shop, and just never got around to using it. Restaurant.com emailed me that I hadn’t used the voucher yet, so I switched b/c the place I bought was no longer showing on the list.

  13. Adri

I used these coupon without any problems, I just show the certificate in my phone and they apply the discount. I use a lot specially when my parents come to visit us, we try different restaurants and we never had any problem. But I always mention to the waitress that I’m planing to use the certificate to avoid any problems later. Thank this place we knew new places for dinner, and all of them with good experiences.
