Add to this the $1 back on 2 bags from Snap!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks! Just added to the post! 🙂

    • hello

That’s only at certain stores (and target isn’t one of them). I haven’t heard of most of the listed stores… none of them are near me

  2. K

I was just thinking this a couple days ago. By now there have been tons of deals posted on here for candy but not much this year 🙁

  3. Robin

There was also $1/2 mars bags on Savingstar if you downloaded it and haven’t redeemed it yet.

  4. smellyann

I’ve been thinking the same thing, Collin.

  5. Ashley

I bought my candy at Sam’s Club. I got the membership that was recently posted. The candy was a huge bag!!

    • Megan

Me too. $15 for like 230 ct at Sams Club. I usually always take advantage of the great coupon candy deals and this year nada. I’m still kicking myself for not doing the 1 day 50% of candy Target deal back in September, because it’s been their only really good deal this year.

  6. Lindak

I think I got a good deal a while back when there was a one day 40% off cartwheel on large bags at Target.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet!

  7. Barb

I too got a lot from Target with the 40% off cartwheel on the large bags, and got 8 bags of snickers & twix from Rite Aid this week for .50 cents a bag. I have too much candy – I ghosted 4 people last night just to get rid of some 🙂 I love h2s for posting these deals! 🙂

    • Anne

How did you get them at Rite Aid for $0.50/bag? I missed that deal – I thought they were $1.50/bag and I was planning on stopping by tomorrow morning.

    • lovedeals

I did the same deal bought Mars and Hershey’s candy. Hershey’s are also like $0.50 per bag.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great find Barb! Thanks for sharing.

  8. Russell

I blame it on all of the fraud and misuse. People were ignoring restrictions last year especially with the $1/2 any Mars candy. It had the size restrictions in the fine print but people ignored that but still used it on the Halloween singles to get them “free”. Some people also used the after they were expired. This is a prime example of how misuse hurts us all….

    • mel

Some stores take expired coupons, so that’s not misuse. Target in my area will take expired coupons as long as it scans through the system.

  9. brandice

CVS has a pretty good deal 5/$15..@?! Get back $5 EB…I have a $5 EB to use so good deal to me

    • Amber

I did this plus I used MQ and CVS-Q. I paid next to nothing after the reward and saving star.

    • Heather

Where did you get the cvs coupon?

      • Amber

Two were from the machine in store. And there was a printable on the cvs website.

    • Katie

Thank you Brandice for posting this CVS. I was able to get 5 fun size bags for 1.87 total!

    • Chantel Chapman

I got an email with $10/$40 purchase. I paid $15 for 13 bags of candy and a small candy corn. That’s 143oz. A good deal to me. 🙂

  10. Hi

I know Mars is putting coupons on some of their products this week in select retailers.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Ooh! Great tip! Thanks for the heads up 😉

  11. Hi

Mars will be putting out coupons on products at select retailers this week.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome!

  12. Lisa

Do you think the Brach’s pumpkins would be part of the candy corn cartwheel deal? I saw the cutest “5 little pumpkins” ziplock and poem snack bag gift for kids on Pintrest.

    • Vivian

ok, I googled the snack bag and omg it is just too cute! I think I might have to do that for my son’s classroom. And it’s easy too!

  13. tia

Albertsons is giving away a bag of fun size Mars candy with $25 purchase this week–not a big bag, but it’s free and relatively easy to spend $25.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Great deal Tia!

  14. nancyr

I don’t only feel this way about the candy; I feel it’s been getting worse and worse for everything. Remember all those Tide packets of detergent? I STILL have a few of them because I only use them when we go on vacation. Remember $1 off Bounty? $1 off Charmin? Now it’s 25 cents for the most expensive paper towels and toilet paper. Remember how P&G used to put out those quarterly samples and great coupons? Even samples aren’t as plentiful and now you have to try to “win” samples. I got into couponing about eight years ago when some of the blogs were brand new and I can tell you way too much has changed. Last year we didn’t get free gravy and whipped cream like years past around Thanksgiving, and I’m assuming we won’t this year either. And store prices have just gone up and up and the coupon values have gone down and down. I just feel it’s harder and harder to find awesome deals. I remember (and I kept old receipts for nostalgic purposes) paying literally 67 cents at Rite Aid and coming home with $40 in UPs and eight bags filled with Gillette, Old Spice, Olay products, and tons of other things. Now we’re cheering if one of the drug stores has a deal to get 2 free tubes of toothpaste or mouthwash. And I haven’t gotten into Snap and Checkout 51 and Ibotta probably because I’m spoiled (and don’t have a smart phone yet). I just want to go to the store and get things free or for pennies, not for dollars and then have to watch videos or submit things, etc. I do use Saving Star but that is automatic. I just miss the good ol’ couponing days. Times sure are a changin’.

    • Jennifer

I agree with you completely!! I feel like things really started on a downhill slide when that Extreme Couponing show came on. It seems like all the highlights on there from double coupons to stacking were noted by retailers and one by one have disappeared. I feel like I purchase more and more online deals and rarely bother with coupons anymore. They just aren’t worth the time!

      • mel

Yes, I blame THAT show. Our area had 1 store that doubled coupons. But many many years ago, I think in ’07, they pulled out of the area. So I got used to not being able to get things free or cheap like I did before. Unfortunately, some of my friends in other states, their stores stopped doubling as a result of that show. It was a huge blow for them, but eventually adjusted.
Coupon values though, are always regional. Our area NEVER got $1 off Charmin or Bounty. I’d have to trade or use a clipping service for those high values. Very rarely we’d get $2 off Tide, most of the time it was $0.50/1 or $0.75/2! I made sure to hit all my sources to get 6 of the $3 Tide printables yesterday!

    • debi

Yea i never had to “win” coupons in the past….now its gotten a bit tedious at times…and the worst is trying to get cashiers to understand coupons..like using store coupon and manu together. Cashier said register didnt like that..well fix it please..not my prob since companies allow both types together..oh the stories of couponing…frustrating at times

    • Crystal

The apps can be a little more work but they really are the “new school” way to save money. I have done very well on ibotta. Especially with the product bonuses. You can use an iPod or iPad without having a smartphone. Any device that can take photos and scan upcs. There’s a $10 bonus for new members right now. If you want to give it a try please feel free to use my link once you get used to it I feel sure that you will love it.

      =)

    • ihearthip

I’m like you. ..started before xtreme couponing show. I think much of it has changed due to the explosion of social media. Companies have found tons of other ways to reach potential customers and field info, so they don’t need to rely on the old paper method. I’m personally taking a different approach to Halloween this yr and giving out non candy treats like a huge tub of themed cheese puffs i got from sams. The price for prepackaged treats seems way more justifiable for me than what they are asking for candy in the stores. Plus i sm not as tempted to eat it!!!

      • Sarah

I started couponing over 4 years ago. I am not getting the deals I used to. I have definitely slacked off but coupon values are just not as good as they used to be. I’ve also noticed this at places like old navy & bath & body works. Old Navy’s prices in my opinion have gone up quite a bit & the coupons they push out exclude (what I feel like) is almost everything! Bath & body has increased prices on several things I used to regularly buy. I still try to save where I can but I am not saving as much as I did in the beginning.

    • Vivian

Do you think that it is just the sign of the times (better economy now vs. 8 years ago, right after the crash?) Back then companies had to put out coupons because consumers were tightening their wallets. That’s when Costco started their coupon book, Stonfire Grill had a $20 stimulus meal deal (that now jumped to $30!!) I just think the economy is improving, people are spending more and maybe the retailers/manufacturer’s don’t need coupons to draw in as much business.

    • Lindsay

I agree as well. I used to get almost everything I couponed for, for free or for pennies. I gave up CVS shopping and only go to Walgreens if it’s a rare deal. I stopped getting CVS emails and coupons in the mail and Walgreens with the points and RR drive me nuts. I don’t even buy newspapers for coupons anymore, I used to buy 4. Now I only use printables and Ibotta. (There’s way too many savings apps to keep track of) I’m positive the show and misuse and coupon fraud have a lot to do with. I stick to all the rules and coupon ethically. It’s frustrating to see when others don’t.

    • kcmiami88

I have thought the same thing about coupons, and i also would rather not use any of the apps …. To some their easy but honestly i dont like doing any extra work i like when i can just print a coupon and take it to a store and use it to get something cheap! I guess thats why i mainly coupon at publix or target i cant even stand doing RR at walgreens or cvs rewards…. Too much time n work for me as a busy mom i used to always forget and have my balances expiring before i could use them smh

    • Erin

The show is/was part of the decline of good deals, but so are deal sites and blogs, which we clearly use. It’s also cyclical; as couponing drops off (as I think it is) some deals will return . . . eventually. Stores and manufacturers need that percentage of people who don’t blink at paying full price to offset those who won’t. If everyone is couponing and tuning into H2S, then of course the deals have to decline. In the meantime, you gotta make your own. The ones that are publicized on every blog are likely to be sold out. I paid $1 a bag for funsize Twizzlers and Starburst at a grocery store–using no coupons, and it wasn’t even advertised in the store flyer as far as I know. Know your prices, keep your eyes open, and maybe keep some of the hot deals on the down low to avoid having them pulled prematurely.

    • K

I started couponing 5 years ago and bought papers every Sunday to get the inserts. I haven’t bought a paper in over a year since the coupons to me don’t justify the cost of the papers. I stick to printables, Ibotta, checkout 51, snap.

    • LindaK

I agree – with Thanksgiving coming up we’ll see if anyone offers a free turkey with $$ purchase. I remember just a couple of years ago I was giving turkeys to my friends, but nothing last year. I believe Extreme Couponing definitely contributed to the misuse and abuse of coupons.

    • Dallas

I have been couponing for 15 years now and yes the times have most defiantly changed. That extreme couponing tv show, which I despise was a huge tipping point this change. Deals are not anywhere near what they used to be. When I started (where I live in So Cal) Ralphs (kroger) would take a 2 page ad out in the sunday paper and show you what was on sale and with what coupon (which at that time they did doubles) to pair it with and the prices were outta of this world. Than (2007ish) came the blogs and that was an amazing blessing and still are for my family but the deals are sadly not as good.

    • Chantel Chapman

Did you check out Collin’s Walgreens post? Candy on sale for $1.75 a bag BEFORE coupons. The deals are out there but people may not be seeing them and there are only so many deals blogs like this can post. Couponing has gotten stricter but I think that has just been squeezing out the people who didn’t follow the rules in the first place. I still find plenty of deals. Maybe all just got a little lazy.

  15. Laurie

I got stickers and pencils from Oriental Trade

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      That’s great Laurie!

  16. mel

Don’t forget, coupons are regional! I have Nestle & Hershey brand coupons in my binder that I clipped recently. The Nestle was in one local paper, but not another! And the Hershey coupon I got from a paper that my husband picked up while he was out of town, that wasn’t in our Sunday insert.
I’ve seen at CVS & Target, $1/2 peelies on the bags. I bought the bags with peelies at CVS, but used the $2/3 insert so I could use the peelies if another deal pops up before they expire.

  17. Jenna

We stocked up on that 3/$9 at walgreens a few weeks ago. With the$2 mf coupon and $2 in store coupon. So it was 3/$5! Then… Savings star had a $1 when you buy 2 bags. So, it was 3/$4 or $1.33 per bag. Not too bad.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Great score Jenna!

  18. Amber

I was also using up my points on shopyourway and a big bag of Reese’s qualified. $5 for free.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh wow! Love it when it’s Free! 😉

  19. Debby

My local Vons/Safeway had 4 bags/$5 so I used two $1/2 butterfingers coup and got all 4 bags for $3. They also had mix and match any 4 bags (snickers, Hershey’s, mr Goodbar, kit kats, m&m etc etc..) $1.99 each. Every year I find better deals at Von’s then any other local stores…😀
I never seem to catch good deals at target 😐

  20. kcmiami88

Publix had bogo last week on tons of big bags of candy…. I am pretty picky about which candy i get and i got huge variety bags of reeses pumpkins hersheys chocolate bars and cookies n creme bars for less than $5 each so not too bad… I did however see my walgreens already had some candy on clearance! I think the brachs was too

  21. ashley

I’m doing the teal pumpkin this year and so got 100 glow Sticks and 170 bouncy balls for under $15 which I thought was pretty good considering all the candy they already get.

    • smellyann

Thank you, Ashley! I am doing the teal pumpkin project this year, too. Where did you get such a great deal? I was going to hit up Party City. Probably too late for me to order from Oriental Trading…

  22. Happy

I’m wondering if sales have gone down on candy.
Back in my day, the streets of our neighborhood were filled with swarms of kids and many of the houses were extremely decorated. Even at a young age, a lot of kids went out without their parents. And, forget that plastic pumpkin! Parents and plastic pumpkins were for babies. Any kid older than a toddler probably knew to use a large sturdy pillowcase.
Of course, there was the “candy inspector” to contend with at the end of the evening though.
Today, it seems like more people are afraid of stranger danger. There are not swarms of children trick-or-treating or nearly as many elaborately decorated houses. It seems like a lot of people do trunk-or-treat events instead maybe.
Also, I was also thinking that people are more health conscientious than they used to be and, maybe, don’t allow their kids to eat as much junk food. Back in the day, I don’t think all the organic fruits and vegetables existed on the market as they are today.
But, I also lived in a time of car pools and children that would roam around the neighborhood after school while often riding their bikes (with no helmets). But, now kids ride in car seats and wear helmets when they bike…

  24. Lindsay

    It’s downright SCARY😱

  25. Flgr

I don’t think its just that show. It’s also blogs like this and the other deal sites. It’s not just the grocery store and drugstore deals that are getting worse. We need to remember stores must make a profit. More and more people started couponing and deal hunting. I don’t think we’ll ever see deals like we did a several years ago when Internet deal shopping and couping was a new concept. Stores had to get better at making a profit because of all the blogs, deal sites, and shows. Anyone could see this coming. Again retailers must make a profit to stay in business. This is just the effect of the emergence of all the couponing sites on the internet.

    • Just Me

I don’t think couponing is cutting into their profits. I am curious to know the percentage of ppl that coupon regularly ( in a large amount) but I bet it’s in the single digit percent.
I know one person who has a coupon binder.

      • Flgr

They come right off the top where the profit is. They probably lose money on products when you use a coupon.

    • Chantel Chapman

Unless it is a retailer specific coupon then no, it doesn’t cut into stores profits. They are reimbursed by the manufacturer for the value of the coupon plus shipping and handling. Also for manufacturers, if you weren’t going to buy their product and a coupon made it a good enough deal for you to then that is good for them even if they make no money on it. It means that they move product. By moving product they increase the amount of raw goods they buy in bulk and are able to negotiate a better deal. That means that there is more of a profit margin. If it didn’t benefit them then they just plain wouldn’t have any coupons. They keep printing coupons though so obviously it helps their profit margin somehow. 🙂

    • Laura

Couponers do not cut into stores profits. Please be informed correctly, STORES/ RETAILERS ARE PAID THE FULL VALUE OF THE COUPON PLUS 8 CENTS PER COUPON REDEEMED. So in fact, they profit off of coupons….

      • Flgr

It’s still cutting into someone’s profits, and yall are complaining about the deals not being as good. Think about it!!! Plus time equals money so it’s not like the store is making profits on accepting coupons.

  26. Stacy

I use Amazon deals are better even staples for online deals – as far as those shoes yes I feel like they do some damage – razors just use dollar shave club razors are good – candy I just buy candy when it’s on sale and just freeze it – candy keeps esp chocolate – when I see a good deal i stock up – there are great deals and Colin does an excellent job – I don’t buy papers anymore – you can get coupons on various sites

  27. Stacy

And I got 5 bags of candy for 9 buck 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Woohoo!

  28. Casey

The only store I can really coupon in is Target. I don’t even bother with any others. I got some decent qs for candy in my red plum inserts. Hopefully it works out well combined with cartwheel.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes! So much fun to coupon at Target! Good luck!

  29. Leah

Albertsons has a free bag of candy with $25 purchase. Limit one per transaction, so I figure you can break up your shopping into multiple transactions if you want. They have some good prices on a few of their meat items this week, so I think it’s a decent place to grab groceries and get a free bag of candy or two.

Safeway also has free candy with certain purchases. Nothing I’m interested in, so I can’t be sure, but there might be coupons for the qualifying items which will get you cheaper buys and free candy. For instance, I know buying 4 boxes of cake mix at $1.25 is one option to qualify for free candy. There might be coupons you can use on the cake mix available.

  30. Erica

Target has the 22 oz. bags of Brach’s candy corn on sale Buy 3 Get 1 free.

  31. Chantel Chapman

If you have a CVS card check for an email that they sent for $10 off $40 purchase. Right now they have the bags that are around 11oz(Twix, Snickers, Milky Way and M&Ms included) on sale 5/$15 with a $5 EB reward when you buy 5. I used the CVS coupon, 5 of the Mars coupon above(didn’t have 6 or it would have been less) and received $10 EB reward. It says limit 1 but it still printed. I got 13 bags of candy plus a tiny candy corn my son wanted for $15 after EB. If you take off the cost of the candy corn and if I would have had a sixth coupon it would have only been $1 a bag.

  32. Laura

This year I didn’t have much luck getting cheap or free candy. I, too believe it was all the misuse that contributed to the shortage of deals this year. Our region didn’t receive a single MARS coupon this year. We did, however receive a BOGO Free coupon for any halloween candy at HEB. I was able to get $60 worth of candy for $3!!! So I’m ready for Halloween with 670 peices of candy. and the good kinds too!! 🙂

  33. Rae

This week has been the best for me HyVee has 1.99 bags of mars fun size with in ad coupon limit 2 and they had a great deal on Mars I’ve cream this summer when the boxes had coupons inside $1/1 ice cream and $1/2 mars candy bags. Hope the kids like snickers because that’s about what I’m limited to get with the sale restrictions and coupon restrictions.
