Bed-Bath-and-Beyond

If you’re a frequent shopper at Bed, Bath & Beyond, you may be interested in this news – especially with the holidays upon us! As you know, most Bed, Bath & Beyond stores accept expired coupons and you can use one percent-off coupon per item unless otherwise stated…and they even accept competitor coupons!

However, according to this recent Good Housekeeping article, Bed, Bath & Beyond stores may be scaling back their 20% off store coupons due to a recent fall in profit from customers using expired store coupons and waiting for a sale to shop. Also, you may notice that select coupons may now have a scaling discount on the coupon (for example – you must use your 20% off coupon by a certain date and after that the discount will drop to only 10% off).

I agree with everyone else here, Bed Bath and Beyond is very overpriced, even with wedding registries, stuff is far cheaper at Target. I’ve only used expired coupons there a handful of times and it was the cashier who told me they took them; otherwise I didn’t know. I haven’t actually been in a store in years. But they do have awesome clearance prices, I’ve gotten a set of super nice bath towels they were on clearance for $3/each.

  2. Carol_R

I never knew that they took expired coupons.

  3. denise

they take only expired coupons if it is not printed. the ones that come with the ad in the mail is good after expiration date.

  4. Tonya

I agree I never shop there without a coupon, but I can’t remember the last time I received one. I used to get them in the mail all the time, but it has been months since I have seen one

  5. Carrie

If you’re buying big things, such as suitcases, many registry items, etc., the BBB price is actually very competitive against say a Macy’s or Bloomingdales for the exact same item.

  6. Lore

Their prices are pretty high, so I only purchade things there that I can use my 20% off coupon. Without that, I won’t shop there.

  7. Diane blevins

We all need to email BB&B and tell them we will no longer shop there if they “scale back” their coupons! I will definitely not shop there without the 20% and $5 off coupons.

  8. Lisa

I only shop with the $5 off $15 coupons to maximize my savings. I buy all my toiletries and make up I want to try due to their liberal return policy and love their as-is section that’s returned items at 50% off and I use a coupon on top of that.

  9. Maria Martocci

If I cannot get a discount with my coupons I will definitely look for sales in other stores, such as Macy’s, Sears & JCPenney

  10. Georgia

They may lose even more if they take away the 20% coupon. They are a little pricey and I use the coupons quite a bit.

Bed Bath and Beyond may be harming their bottom line business as opposed to assisting if they actually make this decision. Their current coupon policy does bring people into the store that would make alternate decisions if they were unable to use expired coupons. The combination of “thinking they are getting a deal” while at the same time shopping at a store that carries multiple items and a good share of high end items is an excellent draw currently.

I always use coupons when I shop at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but I usually end up buying a few things without coupons. If they discontinue coupons, expired or otherwise, I will definitely shop other stores for bargains.

I FIND IT VERY INTERESTING THAT I USE TO FEEL THE SAME AS OTHERS ABOUT B B AND B BEING MORE OVER PRICED THAN OTHER STORES. THEN AFTER READING THE REVIEWS, I FOUND THAT ALMOST ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS WERE FROM CUSTOMERS WHO DON’T REALLY SHOP THERE.(EXCEPT WITH A COUPON) I AM AN OVER ZEALOUS COUPON SHOPPER, AND RECENTLY REALIZED THAT B B AND B HAS TONS OF ITEMS THAT ARE PRICED EXACTLY THE SAME AS EVERY WHERE ELSE, BUT DEDUCT THE 20% OFF COUPON AND YOU NOW HAVE THE BEST PRICE. JUST SAYING!! AFTER ALL THAT BEING SAID, IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ANY PURCHASE, A REPLACEMENT OR REFUND IS SO EASY. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE BEST. I SHOP AROUND BEFORE I BUY ANYTHING, AND B B AND B IS ALWAYS IN MY RADAR. I’D SAY AT LEAST 85% OF THE TIME, I END UP MAKING MY PURCHASE AT BED BATH AND BEYOND!!!

I probably won’t shop there any longer. Too bad as I’ve spent several thousand dollars in their stores in the past couple of years.

  15. Susan

    Penny wise and pound foolish.
Discontinue the coupons and they’ll lose more business. They sell at full MSRP. Who needs them without the coupons? Not me.
And if you think of it, they’ve already changed their policy about returns with no receipt. That I agree with. Also you need a coupon for every item purchased. Buy 10 items=10 coupons.
They should really rethink this policy. There’s too much competition out there.

  16. Irene

I went to the store on 12/23/2015 and tried to use a 20% off coupon that expired in November, the store clerk told me that it was no longer good and did not want to return it to me.

  17. visitor3

just called to check…my store has not changed its policy and is still taking expired coupons so long as they are not electronic ones

  18. jim

I will stop shopping there. They are too overpriced to shop there without the coupons!

  19. Joseph Donofrio

well…like many chains before them ( remember Linens & Things ?? )….they start a good thing…and then they let Wall Street dictate how their business should run ( they’re on the stock market )….. if they’re no longer honoring expired coupons…I won’t shop there. to many online choices. they have good merchandise…but they’re pricey. oh well, the ever changing retail world 🙁

  20. Norman F

I have used the coupons for many years and BB&B is my first stop for me when I shop for the things they carry without price checking for what I want to buy anywhere else. The coupons are BB&B ‘s major way to advertise rather than with print advertising. My kids used their wedding registry as so many of her friends and relatives shopped there for the coupon reason. If they stop couponing it is really easy to do comparison shopping with my smart phone and also spend more with online retailers like Amazon using Prime for free 2 day delivery . This potential BB&B change will hurt their top and bottom line and am surprised that that they can’t find s better way to increase profits. If this is implemented ther could find themselves becoming another Sears like retailer going down the tubes and failing like Linens & Things did a few years ago.

  21. Dave

Interesting that they are even considering phasing out the discount coupons since they represent the major incentive for regular shoppers like me. Their “regular” prices are much to high and unless they lowered their pricing to offset the coupon loss, l’ll be shopping elsewhere.

  22. Theresa

Preposterous! If they do away w/their coupons, then they better drop their prices in their stores. I can shop the outlets or online with discount sites and get it cheaper than BB&B. I’ve been a loyal customer (and I means I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars) since they have opened in the ’80s. If they discontinue the coupons, I think they will have a lot of unsatisfied customers who will shop the outlets, Amazon and eBay. This doesn’t appear to be a smart marketing ploy.

I, too, have issues with BB&B. Have registered several times (tried to) for receiving coupons in my email. No coupons! Each time I try to contact them I keep getting an auto message that my Spam won’t allow their emails. I checked Spam and there hasn’t been anything received from them. I don’t have BB&B blocked! Haven’t received anything in mail, either, although the address was also listed on “registration form”! Check out associates are rude!

  23. Sheila

I, too, realized that I haven’t received a BB&B coupon in ages. Last one I presented, the cashier tore it in half (it hadn’t expired), then did NOT give me the 20% discount. When I asked about it, she said, “Did you give me a coupon?” Stunned at her question, I said that she took the card, tore it in half, and threw it into the waste can. She huffily went to the can, rummaged through, bringing up small pieces of paper, and finally found the large card, torn in half. THEN she returned to register to enter the discount! I wryly said, “That was weird! You didn’t remember that I gave you a coupon, even though you tore it in half and placed in trash!” She huffily said, “We all make mistakes!” Wow! Unbelievable. Anyway, since that was my last coupon, I went to website and “registered” for having them sent to my email address. After several days of not receiving anything from BB&B, I returned to website and tried to reenter info. Message was: “You have already registered. Check your Spam account.” I have done so many times to no avail. What’s up with this? Sadly, I won’t be shopping there anytime soon. My time is more valuable than worrying about 20% off their inflated prices!

  24. Ellen Mack

I think most of BBB prices are hiked up 10 to 20% anyway. I have a feeling this will be worse on them. They should rethink this QUICKLY before the holidays.

  25. Pperks

Back in the day, I used a 20% off coupon on a dyson!! Not anymore! They’ve put restrictions on tons of name brands you can no longer use coupons on. But they have the best return policy! Enfinite as long as you have the receipt, and packaging. I hoard boxes for anything I buy there with the receipt stuffed inside. I haven’t bought a new coffee maker in years! I want to buy a cloth diaper set that’s only available on line, I wonder how I could go about using my coupons for that? I think I’m going to try and purchase at store and ship them and have them scan the coupons. We’ll see!

  26. Elle Johns

I use their 20% off coupons for the few times a year I shop there. Without them, I would look elsewhere. I would never pay a membership fee for a discount. It reduces the value of the coupon. Their return policy is good especially for big ticket items that fail. Just make sure you keep your receipt.
