What kind of restaurants are these good at?

    • Janice

Go to their website and key your zip code in, it’ll show you list of restaurants in your area that accepts restaurant.com gift certs.

  5. Linda Murphy

Where and when do you discover restrictions as to when and how certificates can be used at each particular location?

Has anyone ever redeemed one of these certificates? I’ve heard some mixed things about experiences. I’d really like to try it but would really appreciate some feedback!

    • Ashley

Ive tried it several times at a local restaurant. Caused some problems a few times but they would end up taking it. The last time I tried to do it at a local restaurant that was still listed on the website-the restaurant had changed owners and the new owners were not doing it anymore. They told me their name was supposed to be removed from the list online but it clearly wasnt. Sometimes too much of a hassle to deal with. And you have to have a minimum food purchase before you can use it which can be a struggle to reach at some Mom and Pop restaurants.

I use Restaurant.com gift certificates all the time. I do have to warn you though…call before you go to make sure that they still accept the certificate. Just because you have a gift certificate, that doesn’t mean that they will accept them. For example, I went to my local deli who used to accept the $25 ones…now they only accept the $10 ones. Other times I will call a restaurant and they tell me that they no longer accept them anymore as well. Then there are some restaurants by me who have been on this site for years and they still accept them. My advice is to buy them and right before using them, call them. If they no longer accept it, exchange it for a different place. They never expire.

Thanks! Is OK to give these as a gift since there’s minimum purchase requirements? Does that seem tacky or would people not care they got a gift card?

    • Marion

I really wouldn’t give these as a gift because of the minimum spend requirement. That’s just my opinion, tho.

    • Sarah

In my opinion, giving as part of the gift or as day 1 of Secret Santa would be fine but not as a sole gift. Like others said, so much gratuity is added or you have to spend double the amount of the certificate, it’s a hassle more than a gift. But if I got it as part of a gift I’d appreciate it. I have a $100 gc I haven’t used in a year that I got from a sales lady. Haven’t found a time to use it yet.

I’ve been able to redeem them, but the restaurants always give me problems first and excuses. Then they give in. Not a pleasant experience. Now the ones I have left aren’t honoring them at all. They must not be a part of this any longer. It probably works a lot better if you live in a big city.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for your feedback on this Carol.

Almost purchased one, but noticed in the terms and conditions that it was only valid for a $50 purchase. Not sure all restaurants will have same policy, be sure to click the link to look at the terms and conditions!

  10. Tisa

I called the a local restaurant just to make sure it was valid there. Lady told me I have to purchase $20 minimum and I could only use $10 certificate.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks for sharing Tisa.

My problem with the gift certificates is that when you redeem a gift card, it takes the amount of the food voucher off your certificate, instead of what you would pay if you were paying for a voucher with your credit card. For example, if you go to their website just go buy a voucher, it says $4 for $10 worth of food. If you buy with your credit card, you are charged $4 for $10 worth of food(which usually has a condition that you must spend $20 in the restaurant). However, if you buy a $10 vouched with your restaurant.com “gift card”, it isn’t like a normal gift card, and the gift card is charged $10 not $4, which I think is terribly misleading as you think your gift card deal is really great but in reality is isn’t.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for your honest review Toni.

A long time ago I was going to buy one of these but the minimum spend requirement discouraged me. I don’t like the concept. Plus, only select restaurants end up taking them…and usually not the ones I frequent.

  13. chilichant

I have used a few of these. You can’t always eat at the restaurant that you bought the GC for, and keep in mind along with a min food requirement (usually $50) you are charged gratuity on the full bill at a minimum of 18%. Also, both restros that I used mine at, would not honor their current specials AND the certif…It was one or the other.
