I entered the trial by mistake. Is there any way to cancel the subscription immediately?

    • Pam

LOL I did the same thing! Cyber Monday rushing I guess. I did read the info and it says you can return the bill marked CANCEL once you receive it.

      • JN

        Oh crud me too 😔

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Sorry all. 🙁 I just did an update at the top so that other don’t have the same issue. I’m guessing you should be able to call to cancel.

      • JN

Not your fault!!!!! I was taught in elementary to read all directions first. I failed lol!! The email says allow for 24 hours and you can click a link to cancel.

  2. Allison

I am tempted to enter but I don’t want to get hit with the tax bill – $20K!!

    • Katie

Where did you find that information?

    • Rebecca in TX

The prize package itself has an ARV of $19,561, but they give you $4514 in cash to pay any taxes you incur.

    • jennifer

In the past Oprah paid the taxes. She did when my twin sister won back in 2009

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh wow! So awesome that your sister won! 🙂

      • Alea

Oprah did NOT pay taxes on all her giveaway shows, but she did pay for some of the giveaways that were showing special recognition – teachers, first responders, etc. She got a lot of negative publicity after the car show “giveaway,” and the taxes audience members had to pay, so she started to pay some of the taxes after that. So it depends.

Congrats to your sister – hope she had an amazing time on the show! 🙂

        • David

If Oprah wants to give me a $25000 car and leave me with the $5000 tax obligation (which wouldn’t be due until the following April), I’ll gladly sell the car and pocket the $20000 I would be left with after selling the car and paying the tax obligation. Is that really so bad?

I don’t understand being afraid of a prize because (between 4-16 months later depending on what month you’re awarded the prize in) you have to pay taxes on it.

Last week I won some kind of fancy Dyson bladeless fan/heater/AC thing and have to pay tax on the $450 MSRP – about $100. Paying $100 in taxes stinks, especially for something I don’t really want, but it took about an hour to unload it for $300. My net gain in the end was *only* $200 – should I have refused the prize instead? That’s ludicrous!

  3. Katie

That link that “doesn’t enter you into the magazine trial” still does. Boo.

  4. Ashley

Between the tax bill that we’d have to come up with the cash to cover and the subscription that I’d have to be responsible for canceling in the midst of the holidays or our post holiday travel next year I also decided this was not the offer for me. But thanks for sharing.

    • Tracy

Says you can use the cash for the taxes. The tax should be less than the cash.

  5. henna

Seems like some scam to subscribe you into the magazine automatically. How do i cancel the subscription???

    • Shopper

Not a scam, you had to click on the link above the form, to get to a new form that doesn’t include the trial subscription.

  6. Swirlypop

Looks like I’m in the minority but I’m excited and would LOVE to win! Thanks Collin! The no purchase link worked for me. 😄

    • Melloddie

      Same here 🙂 Good luck!!!

  7. Franfran

    Thanks hope to win !!’

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome! Good Luck!

  8. Meg

How’d y’all figure that tax bill?

  9. Katie

I accidentally signed up for a trial years ago and ended up getting pretty nasty to cancel it because they wouldn’t stop sending me a bill. Just an FYI

  10. ken

I check your blog daily and have always been SO pleased. However, today, I didn’t read carefully enough about the O subscription, and now I’m stuck with waiting for it to arrive and having to go to the trouble of cancelling it. Please put in all caps when this is a subscription service order with renewal. This is such a pain and so disappointing. My fault in not reading far enough, but you don’t usually place sweepstakes like this with renewal mags on your posts. Aughhhhh!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Ken,

Sorry to hear your frustration 🙁 , but that’s why I tried to explain in the post with an image exactly what to do to still enter and not subscribe. Sorry again that you subscribed. You should be able to call their customer service line and cancel your subscription.

  11. Rebecca

Yeah that tax information is not accurate, don’t know where they think they read that. The prize is actually worth $15K, then you get $4K cash which you can use to offset any taxes, if you wish. Bringing your total value to $19K, as this post indicates. And you can enter to win without signing up for the magazine trial, just as Collin shows.

  12. Lolita

I went through all 93 items, the only one I really want is the Cherry Pie lol, (the first one). I am not going to pay $54 for it though, haha. I have an Echo, if not I would have been interested in that, and an iPhone 6 would be nice, but I wasn’t a fan of the rest!

  13. Emilie

I have codes for a free shutterfly magnet, free shutterfly ornament and $20 off shutterfly holiday cards that I would love to trade for a free shutterfly photo book code or a Sephora gift card. 🙂

  14. Dee

Ha! I love how it’s Collin’s fault that some signed up for the magazine when she provides a picture and detailed instructions on how to avoid that. Thanks for the info! Hopefully, this will be my year!

    • Nancy

Totally agree. Some people are extremely rude! You wouldn’t even know Christmas was near with how some of her followers act.

  15. Rebecca

I didn’t read the whole post either. But when I received the email confirming my subscription at the bottom it tells you how to cancel your subscription before your first issue is shipped

  16. bali

It’s really not that hard to cancel these. Wait until the bill comes or they send you an email confirmation, go to their subscription service page, enter your customer # and cancel. Or return their bill marked “cancel”.

  17. Natalee

Thanks Collin!! I just entered. Good Luck everyone.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Natalee!

  18. Linda

For anybody who accidentally signed up for the free trial, this was in the FAQs: I signed up for the free trial issue, but I don’t want to receive it or subscribe to the magazine. What should I do?
If you do not wish to accept a free trial issue of the magazine, you may cancel the order by going to Service.TheOprahMag.com. If you do not see your order right away, don’t worry. It may take a day or two for the order to appear in your account. Once it is available, you will be able to cancel.

I didn’t have this problem, so I don’t actually know if it works, but hopefully it helps some of you!

  19. Gail M

How can I cancel if I accidentally did subscribe even after reading your directions?

  20. Jaki316

I guess nobody reads nowadays. Thanks Collin! 😀

  21. Julie L

Lol, no problems here. Looking forward to winning!

  22. Ann

Please can you tell me how do i cancel the subscription?
    Thank you.

  23. Nicole

Thanks for this. I have been trying to enter Oprah fAv things for about a week.

  24. Jolyne Dunn

“Sorry, we are not accepting entries”. What is going on?

  25. Johnna Sharber

    Hi –
If I missed entering during day 1 will I still be eligible to win the other prizes or do I need to enter daily to have my name possibly selected?

  26. rljohnston1974

I guess I don’t get all of the negativity. Collin gives us opportunities for deals and to win prizes. She doesn’t necessarily need to hear WHY we would choose not to do it. There are some things I choose to take advantage of and others that I don’t. Come on everyone – it’s the holidays. How about we focus on keeping it positive?

  27. conisha

Oprah every year I get your magazines I love anything that and it even for the holidays but I just can’t afford any of it I’m on a fixed income please I need some help with furniture
