In my opinion, this model is better on all fronts. It does not have the Project Runway name or graphics, but it has 10 additional built-in stitches, and if you plan on using it for quilting (which is what I use mine for), this model has a larger throat size, needle-up/needle-down option, and comes with an extension table for supporting the weight of large projects. I used this model to sew through four layers of heavy leather last night using a regular needle and it didn’t slow down a bit. All Brother sewing machines have strong motors and are relatively heavy machines, which makes them more stable for sewing large items. My last Brother lasted about 7 years, but it was a refurbished one to begin with and I was making 15+ quilts and assorted other small projects each year. If you have any other questions, just let me know. I recently reviewed several models of sewing machines when I was in the market for a new one.
Unfortunately, I’m guessing that I’m stuck because j already bought the other one and I don’t think I can do anything without wasting A LOT of money in shipping.

Costco has the Brother XR 3140 machine for $149. Any comparison reviews? I haven’t sewed in years so am a little foggy on what would work for me and my girls (under 5yrs. Super beginners!) There are so many good deals I’m getting foggy on details. TIA!
This is a great machine for young sewers because it has the speed control! It keeps them from zooming off to fast with the foot pedal.
I have this machine and really like it. I’m a beginner with sewing and haven’t had trouble with this machine.

Great machine and it has a speed control, great for beginners. This is an awesome deal, I paid $50 more last March…if you have American Express check for loadable deal $15 statement credit on a $60 Amazon purchase, for under $100 I had to buy one more, three girls that sew!
