Growing up my parents always put fruit (tangerines, star fruit, oranges, apples. . .) in our stocking that went with our special Christmas breakfast. It was always fun to see what fruit we got and to see how it fit with our breakfast. It was also a great way to get us to eat fruit. 🙂

    • Veronica

My mom did this for us too…it was fruit but we always loved it..lol

    • Cassandra

Aww. This is something my late grandfather did, which was passed onto my dad. We could always expect to see some fruit in our stockings – and still do to this day!!

    • Laurie

We always got an apple and an orange … and a lot of nuts

      • Em

Same here! Our kids get apple and orange, too. I do skip the nuts. 🙂

        • Laurie

So do I – my child is allergic 🙁

    • Jennifer

My mom always gave us an orange and peanuts in the shell. I’ve started doing the orange too 🙂

  16. Lauren

For men (my dad and husband) I got the target men’s beauty box, cufflinks, movie tickets, some super manly toenail clippers for thick nails (yuck), and a free shutterfly mug. For my sisters I did selfie sticks, made adorable fillable ornaments with the cheap Lindt deal and the vs panty deal (they came out cute), I also scored full size beauty samples thru boxycharm and another testing site I use. They have nail polish, face serum, face masks, socks, panties, lippies, free shutterfly reusable bags and magnets etc. my kids love surprise eggs so I did some chocolate surprises and other egg surprises plus the after Christmas deals I got last year. My 12 year old son was hard. I got a high grade yoyo, a micro can rc racer, Rubik’s cube, and a cute BB-8 marshmellow lollipop that was $1 at walmart.

  17. Ashley

We always got fruit and nuts and sometimes firecrackers: black cats, sparklers, etc

  18. lisa

For my husband, a lint roller, I know exciting!! We have a pug and she sheds like crazy! We also put bottles of pop from the $ Tree in stockings since soda is a guilty pleasure at our house 🙂

  22. katie

This is obviously for adults only but I was thinking of getting all the girls in my family a little key chain with pepper spray, it is a practical gift that could actually save a life.

    • Gwen

      Good idea!

    • Marie

      where do you buy that?

      • cherryluva

ive seen pink mini key chain pepper spray bottles sold at Track Auto

  23. BChall

Not to be mean but A piece of coal to let them know what they may have done wrong to set a disciplinary action into place that IF they were to go down the wrong path and misbehave that there would be more coal and less gifts? Thoughts? Just curious

    • Bethany

      Cute idea!

    • Kim

I know what you mean! The tooth fairy who usually leaves $3-4 just left a very long note about morals and behavior and a quarter. My son could have cared less, he still got money lol (this is also the day after he asked if the tooth fairy is real and I didn’t lie. He still expected her to leave something.) If behavior is drastic and nothing you say or do helps, when last resort I so wild turn to Santa or other holiday figure. He is supposed to know if kids are naughty or nice!

    • blondecurve

      Hahaha

  26. Suzanne

Bath toys, sippy cups, bubble bath, nail polish cute/funky socks, movie/car wash tickets, ear buds or extra chargers for devices

  27. gater

My kids got personalized pillowcases. They also get the same pez dispenser every year with a few new rolls of pez (We do this for Valentine’s day and easter as well) after the candy is gone the pez dispensers disappear until next year. And fun bandaids which my daughter (she’s 2) will love! My hubby is getting abad of Christmas Oreos, they are his favorite and he gave them up to be healthier this fall so it will be a special treat.

  28. Marie

I individually wrap every item in their stockings. It is very time consuming considering I have three stockings to fill, but just adds to the suspense and surprise factor…also makes the morning last a little longer. My children (who are older now) have often said the stockings are their favorite part of the morning.

  29. Marie

Also, I have found a lot of wonderful stocking stuffers at Barnes and Noble after the Holidays for 75% off. The trick is you have to save it til next Christmas!

    • Judy

Great idea to check Barnes & Noble in the new year. Thanks

  30. Em

Tried to reply towards the top of the page, but not sure where it went. We also do apple and orange. One fits very nicely in the toe of the stocking. 🙂
