Can this be used for newborn car seats? Thanks in advance.

    • Andrea

Sure can. Description states: With an adjustable back panel, it can fit to any car seat with just one simple fold, and it works for both rear-facing and forward-facing infant car seats.

    • AmandaN82

They can used under any car seat they don’t interfere with the car seat. They just help with protecting your seat especially during the toddler stages and add storage.

  2. Sam

These are generally not safe. Many manufacturers of car seats specifically say not to use these in the manuals. Unfortunately almost all of the aftermarket car seat accessories are unsafe. Car seats for the littles has great info about safety, there’s so much I didn’t know before

    • Hunterwoody

I agree. Consult your manual first!!

      • Holly

I agree that it’s not a good idea. If you’re concerned about your vehicle’s upholstery, use a bath towel (that is similar in color to the car fabric) under the child’s car seat. Plus** if your child’s straps are properly tightened they can’t even reach the built in pockets below their seat that come on this protector. And if they can reach the pockets–their straps aren’t tightened enough for safe riding!

        • Jennifer

I use an old crib sheet to cover the back seat of my car. This works perfectly for me.

    • ShoppyMcSaver

Another vote for not safe for use.

    • Mona

What’s the rationale for them being unsafe?

      • Laura

Mona – the carseat is not directly on the seat in your car. Perhaps giving the carseat wiggle room.

      • Hunterwoody

Usually your manual won’t allow it

    • Caroline

Agree. Safety should be first concern.

    • Happymama

I bought one of these to protect my BMW’s light color leather from my newborn’s carseat. It slipped all over the place, it was scary! Also, after a few days, I took it off and noticed deep ridges of black rubber that grinded into the leather! Do not recommend!

  3. Jen

Safe child = more important than a clean seat

  4. dontknock

Ya, I’d love to hear how these are unsafe. With the carseat buckling into the car seat harnesses there is no reason these should be getting a beating here…

    • J

Anything in between doesn’t allow a seat to fully tighten and they aren’t crash tested.

    • jenn

What that person said. They are along the same lines as car seat covers that go in the car seat thru the buckels. There should be no extra fabrics between the car and the car seat or the child and the back/seat of the carseat.

    • Ehay814

Car seats are not tested with them, therefore there is no way to tell if be safe in a crash. It’s recommended motto use them unless they are made for the seat. Britax makes one for their seats.

  5. Karin

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read your manual before using these types of products! Most seats are not designed to be used with aftermarket products like this. Some will allow a specific brand or a simple thin towel. The reason is simple. They are not crash tested with these products. The same for the aftermarket seat covers that go between the baby and the back of the seat and then zip up to keep the baby warm. If you need a seat cover use the “shower cap” style that goes around the top of the seat and doesn’t go around the straps.

  6. momof3

Read your manuals. Some brands allow a thin mat under and several state nothing is to be used under. Abide by that as if not you are voiding the warrenty and not using “proper use”

  7. Anne

Besides the safety issue, does anyone else think it’s weird to have a sippy cup right by a toddler’s dirty feet/shoes?

    • Kristy

yes! Plus I was thinking about when it snows/rains and depending on the child’s height the water would be dripping off their shoes onto these items! yuck!

    • Bobbie

Oh my gosh Anne, that’s the 1st thing I thought when I saw it, and now add the significant concerns about safety!

  8. Janet

My daughters car seat came with one.

    • jenn

Mine too, which means it is ok with that specific one.

  9. tanya

I heard some of these seat protectors will mess up your leather if its any color besides black.

  10. Wren

We Love the Brica car seat protector which has grip traction on BOTH sides, and we see that our seat is still tightly clamped down with it. I have had it on our leather upholstery for a year and it does not stick or bleed (we don’t live in ultra-hot climate though, like AZ).

    • Sarah

We also have the Brica in all 3 of our cars and love them

      • Karin

Wren & Sarah, you have to read your manuals to see if they are allowed with your seat. If you are in a proper use state it can actually be illegal to use them as it requires your carseat/infant carrier to be used properly and if a mat is not allowed it is not being used properly. It also can prohibit proper installation. As a certified car seat technician, safety is my first priority.

  11. Andrea

Sippy cup holder for under the feet?? Gross

  12. Kristy

I’m a certified car seat technician. These are NOT safe. Your car seat has been crash tested without any after market products. When you start adding aftermarket products to your seat, you void the warranty and could be putting your child in danger. Unless the car seat manual says something about placing something under the seat, you shouldn’t do it; not even a towel.
