Anybody know if the freetime starts when you receive it or if you can delay it, say to use the kindle as a Christmas gift & activate the freetime then?

Its when you set up account on the actual kindle.

I got this Kindle a few weeks ago when it was on sale for 39.99. As well as the kid case. We LOVE it! It’s perfect and so easy to use. There are YouTube videos of how to add the google play store to it. So tons of free games!

do you happen to have a link to the video of how to add google play store?
I got the tablet but I can’t find a youtube app for kids that works well, i found some but i didn’t like them.

There is a monthly chg for free time after a trial period. I find this kindle hard to set up. I still haven’t figured it out.

I actually bought it this at Best Buy 2 days a go and returned it. I wasn’t happy with the small amount of memory it comes with I believe it’s 8GB and then it doesn’t let you go online once you internal memory is full. It’s cute but it was hard to set up and work. My child still kept going back to her iPad mini instead ..

We got our two kids these for Christmas after having Nabi tablets for the last few years. My biggest complaint is that you share all your internal space with whomever is linked to the account. Adults included. Since we have two tablets both kids share the storage. We even bought bigger memory cards, but everything used via Freetime is internal, not on memory cards. There is no way to turn off what the kids can download. I see nowhere in settings to have a password to download content because everything is kid-friendly. I can go in and block titles, but that is very time consuming. So far I’ve gone through and blocked almost 3,000 titles (not so much for content, but things that are too advanced for my daughter or things she’s just not that interested in). I had to select each title one by one. I did this to save space. Every book and app are right at their fingertips. Just waiting to be clicked on to download. The Wi-Fi turns off when internal storage is low and then nothing works on the tablet pretty much. My almost 5 yr old will download anything she sees. So that is a major pain. Maybe another Kindle Fire Kids owner can help me out here?

I kind of feel the same way. We got my 3 kids each their own Kindles for christmas. We barely downloaded 3-4 apps onto each and they’re out of memory. Can’t get online. We can’t get youtube to work properly at all, and with no memory, the wifi won’t turn on anyway. I hate that my Kindle books show up on their tablets. I wish they were all separate, but could still be controlled by my email address. Eh, it was a lot cheaper than getting them all ipads, so we’ll deal for now.

Our Nabi tablets were the same. They were constantly out of internal storage. Although, I feel like the kids used them more so maybe it was a tad better. A lot of this is due to what has to be on tablets (3.75GB out of the not quite 8 they give you on Kindle!). The not allowed to be removed apps and software. This leaves just over 4GB. Ugh. This goes for both Nabi and Kindle. We were pretty satisfied with the Nabis accept for the same internal storage issue. And their chargers are not kid friendly. They break easy. There has to be a kid friendly tablet out there that meets our needs 🙂
