    it was on March 21st.

    • JC

It’s an everyday thing. The post/update was just on the 21st.

  3. Ccflyer

That’s awesome! Now we will actually take advantage of it!

  4. J

Our Kroger started this recently with the free fruit! It’s great!

    • Diana

My daughters go get their free piece of fruit everytime we go to smiths- they get soo excited 😜. One of my smith’s has been offering free kids cone ice cream all mo as well.

  5. Shey

We did this yesterday and my daughter chose an orange! Wahoo for eating fruit!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet! 🙂

  6. April

Finally! I’ve been saying this for years to publix

  7. Rachel

How did I not know about this!?!? Oh Target, how do I love thee!!!!

  8. Olivia

My local target said they don’t support obesity so they gave out an orange and apple to the kids…I’m very happy with their decision.

    • meg

Sorry but eating a cookie does not make a person or child obese. Everything in moderation. Smh

      • meg

That is a pretty outlandish statement for them to make…let the kid choose a cookie if that is what they want. There is a huge difference between enjoying/looking forward to a treat vs. Making a habit out of unhealthy eating. This is a different meg, btw. I just happen to agree.

        • Meg

But if the midgets get a “treat” at every store and all day long (ex. Publix, target, a “treat” with lunch, dinner, etc you get the picture)…. Then yes it’s an overload…. Good that this target only chooses to hand out fruit. Btw this is a third Meg, I just disagree 😂

          • meg

Smh. Didn’t say that they should have a cookie at every single store they go to. Geeze I don’t know how we all made it through our childhood eating cookies and candy sometimes….the word being sometimes. Not every meal. People need to relax. Have a great evening.

            • Dixon

Shake your head all you want. But I see the point. Kids need guidance, this Target was providing the healthiest of options. And really it’s not that big of a deal as you’re making it.

              • meg

The point is of course it is the healthiest option…and there is nobody here disputing that. However, to phrase it in a manner that is misleading is ridiculous. No. That cookie will not cause obesity. Offering a cookie to a child is not “supporting obesity”. Also, I do not personally have the energy or patience to haul my kids into multiple stores in one day resulting in multiple treats being offered. If you do, more power to you. Night.

            • Rae

It’s not a stores place to ‘guide’ my children, that MY job! I don’t think a store is obligated to give out anything, it’s nice but not something they HAVE to do. It can be a problem(as in everywhere wants to hand them sugar) with places offering kids treats or asking if they can offer the kids treats I have figured out this really awesome phrase, “no thank you.” My kids know most times it’s not happening and they don’t get upset.
You want to take the offer of a cookie for your kids great! They want fruit? Great! You are their guide you know how they live, what they like, what they’ll eat! It’s not up to anyone else but YOU.

            • Silvia

Why are ya’ll making a big stink? Taking it personal? Really not as big as you’re making it. So the managers at target wanted to only offer fruit. Um ok move on.

      • maranda

        So true meg

  9. Linds'

Shout out to Hy-Vee in Columbus Nebraska that already does this. :). Kiddos to Super Target!

This is fantastic! We often have to stop at the grocery store on our way home – it’s before dinner so my daughter is getting hungry and a cookie is tempting but I’ve started making her choose between a grocery store cookie and dessert later. Now she can have a shopping snack AND we can all have a treat later. It’s smart on the stores’ part too – hungry kids equals cranky kids which equal parents rushing out which means less impulse buys…

    • Katrina

…and fewer intentional buys. Haha I ALWAYS forget something I meant to buy when my kids get crabby.

      • GA

Same. I usually miss something at the register (a coupon, a gift card, etc) so then I’m cranky too. Lol.

  11. Connie

My Kroger Store started this last week as well. Love it

  12. JA

Giant Eagle too. Cookie, cutie, banana or apple.

  13. April

    Awesome!!

  14. Diana

Great! My kids love getting a cookie at our Super Target, but they also love fruit! We will test it out tomorrow at our Target run!

  15. Erin

Silly question, but how do you know if a your store is a SuperTarget or a regular Target?

    • Jess V

It has a full bakery, full deli etc

  16. Michelle

My son always gets a free slice of meat and/or cheese at the deli at Target when I’m getting slices. He always looks forward to his gouda cheese sample! 🙂

  17. Leighton

    Very cool!

  18. Brandi

I had no idea the free cookie was ever an option! We always stop and get a free kids cup of popcorn. My girls look forward to Target so good for them for offering these choices!

  19. CFK

I want a supertarget near me! Dream come true!

  20. j

FYI, Market Street does this too (started a few months ago). You pick either small apple, orange, or banana.
