If you do buy a Starbucks gift card, you can transfer the balance online to your own Starbucks card. I’ve transferred e-cards directly to my Starbucks card with no problems. Probably overly cautious, but that way no one else could “remember” the number and use it for an online purchase without your knowledge.

Keep in mind that there are (many) reports online where people buy preowned gift cards, transfer to their own Starbucks card, Starbucks determines that preowned card was bought with a stolen credit card, and suspends the buyers card, including any existing balance and status. This seems to happen more often with SBUX gift cards than others.

Yeah, I would definitely NOT add this to your account. There have been quite a few horror stories on Slickdeals of folks adding “used” cards to their accounts, then the card being reported lost/stolen & then their ENTIRE ACCOUNT BALANCE is seized and disappears. Just don’t risk it!

WOW, thanks. I don’t have any experience buying used gift cards so I didn’t know this. Glad to know there is one more reason to be cautious. That’s why I love reading comments. I don’t carry a large balance on my Starbucks Card, but now I definitely wouldn’t suggest transferring the balance. I’ve only done that with e-gift cards, so it sounded reasonable to do. Sorry it wasn’t good advice.

So I saw all the bad and sketchy RAISE reviews yesterday. What are peoples thoughts on this store?

I’ve purchased one in the past with no issues

I have purchased from Raise and Ebay (specifically Gift Card Mall on ebay) and never had any issues

Important to note, PayPal will no longer offer buyer protection on gift cards, so if you use PayPal to pay for your gift card and there’s a problem with it you’ve lost your money.

I have had problems with PayPal and buying gift card recently (not on this site but another giftcard site) in that they would charge it as “Cash advance” which my credit card company tacks on a 10$ plus interests. I have called both the credit card company and PayPal and each is “blaming” the other. I am now reluctant to buy GCs via PayPal which is disappointing since they seem to have great deals sometimes. Do any of you ever run into similar problem with the Credit Card comps? Thanks
