Shopmium App Update: Stacking Prevention Policy AND Many Stores Now Excluded

Shopmium

New Stacking Prevention Policy!

Are you a Shopmium App user? If so, take note of some changes that are taking effect today, May 11th! Shopmium will now be enforcing a stacking prevention policy which means any rebate requests for products where manufacturer coupons have been applied will be denied. In other words, you will not able to use both a manufacturer coupon (this includes both paper coupons and digital coupons) and a Shopmium cash back offer to save on the same product. Check out the Shopmium Facebook page for more information.

Many Stores Are Now Excluded!

Also note that if you shop at Kroger Company (Kroger, Harris Teeter, Ralphs, King Soopers, Fry’s, Fred Meyer), CVS/ Pharmacy, Publix, Meijer and several other stores mentioned here, you will no longer be able to submit receipts from these retailers and affiliated stores anymore. Apparently, the receipts at these stores do not provide enough information to allow the Shopmium system to properly validate rebates.

If you are not yet signed up with Shopmium, head over here, register for a FREE account, and enter the referral code GHUEYUVP when signing up to snag a FREE Lindt Excellence or Classic Recipe Chocolate Bar!

Welp, guess I’ll be deleting Shopmium, then. Goodbye.

    • Queenjen87

Ditto all the stores I shop at

      • Beth

Same here. Almost every store I shop at is excluded.

    • Denise G.

My thoughts exactly. I was trying to make room for an update on my phone last night so perfect timing. My husband was helping and kept reading off my savings apps – like do you really need Checkout 51, SavingStar, etc? I basically growled and said yes – leave them alone. Haha

    • maggie

I deleted Shopmium today too. There are never any worthwhile offers anyway. It was a waste of space on my phone. MobiSave and Ibotta are much better.

    • NolaGirl

Bye bye Shopmium. I never got my free chocolate anyway.

  2. Erika

Just read it on my email..

  3. Hannah

How do they know? Last week I did an Ibotta & shopmium for one item

    • Pj

If your receipt shows that you used a coupon for the item, they won’t give you the rebate. They don’t know whether you submitted to another site.

    • Kristen

I think the ibotta is in the clear, since it doesn’t show up on your receipt.

  4. NotTeresa

they will be closed by the end of the year lol. couponing in general as a theme is dead btw. In a few year you won’t even reme, ber what ti is

    • Roxy

      Couponing is dead? Lol.

      • Cathy

They are making it more difficult to coupon today than 5 years ago. The stores have implemented stricter guidelines for coupons and they are constantly taking perks away. I have noticed the cashiers such as CVS have become a lot more problematic lately when using coupons.

        • Kristen

Mine CVS has been bad about coupons since they opened; I always assumed it was bad training. :o/

        • annie

i agree with cathy. paper coupons as we know it, will not be around much longer. loading onto a card will be it. and one discount coupon per shopper card. been coupling for 41 years, i’ve seen how harder it is and the stores constantly changing coupon policies.
you can thank the extreme coupon shows, also people who copy several coupons from one printing, and the counterfeit coupons made to get stuff for free, or close to it.
i have been training store managers at the big box stores to spot all of these issues.
and they tell me, stores are tighting down or even not excepting internet coupons at all. it’s all by their discretion.
enjoy it now. cause your stockpile will no longer be a stockpile.
the horror stories that target management has told me, hurts the honest ones, because of a few bad apples.
i can remember buying a sunday paper in one of those stand alone kiosks, put in your money open the door and take one paper. they are all gone now, thanks to the people stealing them all when they opened the door.

          • Kay

I can see paper coupons disappearing – wouldn’t it be awesome to have a “coupon card” like a credit card that you can load your coupons to and then scan at the register at any store?? Then it would take them all off automatically and you wouldn’t have to worry about the cashier not scanning one? I also think it would help with all the fraud… (though i’m sure there would be other problems like it not working on the correct item like it should, but we already have that issue now….)

          • April

we still have kiosks here but they only put daily newspapers in them and the saturday edition only. the sunday edition has to be purchased in store. its almost like couponing has to be a secret cause with the blogs and videos of how to coupon and stack coupons with rebates are catching the eyes of manufacturers and rebate companies, the rules keep changing. then on top of that, we have some misuse coupons and that doesn’t help matters at all.

        • April Hobgood

i will be deleting this app as well. there is not use for me to use the app if i can’t combine extra savings on top of it. snap by groupon changed and now this one. i have not had shopmium that long anyways. so it doesn’t bother me to get rid of it. i have never used it because the rebates were lacking. i just left cvs and had to call customer service on them because like always, i had run in with a cashier regarding coupon usage. i purchased the purchased 4 hansen nail colors, and 2 rimmel products. got to the register and told the cashier that i had a $3/$15 app coupon. my total was over $20. then i handed her the 30% email coupon that i printed. everything was going smooth until she scanned the sally hansen coupon. a notification popped up on her screen saying exceeded amount of coupons allowed. she said my total was $14 and some change. i said no i cause i still have these coupons and ecb’s to use. she said well i can’t scan anymore coupons because it says that you have exceeded the amount of coupons allowed. i told her to void out the transaction. i called customer service while standing in the store and they agreed that she was wrong. to make a long story short, she sent a email to the district manager, and i seriously doubt that anything will be done because i have waited on them to contact me on a previous incident regarding the bogo coupon on a bogo sale a few months back. its like if a sale benefits the customer, they will change the rules on the spot to keep the customer from saving any money. i have been couponing for 6 years and things have really changed. i mainly shop at the grocery stores anyways because these pharmacies are a big joke when it comes to couponing there. they give you all these store perks and store money ,but then block everything you do when you try to save.

          • annie

just a heads up: just came from walgreens, not sure if this is just in my area or all walgreens across the way.
they will be implementing… according to walgreens, if a coupon does not scan, they no longer will accept it. before they would override it. no more overriding coupons, reason being, they do not get reimbursed for coupons overridden.
management explains to me registers keep track of coupons at the end of the day.
when a coupon is overridden, there is no tracking method, therefore they lose money. (they don’t get reimbursed.
just passing on what i was told.

            • mel

My Wags & CVS are the same way. But that is untrue about being reimbursed. It takes longer to verify, but stores do get reimbursed. The coupons that scan are easier to match to qty sold electronically. It has more to do with the cashier overriding the system, and the managers don’t want that (it reflects poorly on their ratings from what the manager told me) I’ve had insert q’s just not scan. I find their laser scanners are pretty weak. I am eeking my toner before I change the cartridge, so my IPs are printing light. They just won’t scan at CVS, Wags or RA. But I have no issues at Target or WM with them scanning.

          • annie

my beef with cashiers at cvs. i get an email coupon from cvs from time to time for 4/20. ( on non sale items) i spend $20.00 before coupons. (which is the rule) walgreens when they have that $5.00 off 35.00 in their flyer from time to time.
then i hand cashier the 4/ off 20. coupon along with my other manufacture coupons.
then never fails i hear your total is only $1.23, cashiers says, you didn’t spend $20.00. now here it starts… i say to her, did you see the register total where before any tax, i spent $24.00, she says yes, i say.. BINGO, i spent before coupons and sales tax, over $20.00.
i will walk out just having spent original $24.00 but paid $1.23 (after coupons) after having to explain it all.
some cashiers are like the guard, guarding fort knox. they don’t like to see you getting a great deal. if a manager rings me up, no issues, cause he knows i’m going by the book. cashiers they think you’re trying to pull one over them.

        • Tanya

Sad but true: there are tons of people who abuse coupons. “well, it worked for me” or ” I just go through self-checkout”. If a cpn says “2 per transaction” you must use 2, not as many as the register would take. If a cpn is for a certain size or variety, then that exact variety has to be purchased. No wonder stores are coming up with stricter policies: they don’t get reimbursed for every coupon people use, if it didn’t meet requirements. As far as Shopmium: this was probably the worst rebate app, won’t be missed at all.

    • karen

You may be right. Can’t even go to my favorite target anymore cause they don’t take Internet coupons without a hassle. I hope your not though!

    • Anna

Couponing is dead, huh? What a weird thing to say

  5. lastquartertsuki

This app has been pretty worthless for me for a while, but this is quite definitely the end of it for me. Delete, delete, delete!

    • Lee

      I agree with you!

  6. Garfield

    I hope they don’t set a trend.

    • mel

ckout51 has some offers that say can’t be combined with other manuf q’s.. but it’s a hit or miss if it gets approved. so I don’t bother with the ones that have that exclusion . Most stores line coupons up underneath the item now, so it’s easy for them to deny.

      • pandoraaddict

Exclusions seemed to be added when checkout51 became under News America Marketing aka SmartSource & checkout51 with coupons.com

    • Jo

Oh no, I sure hope not!

  7. Andrea

Thanks for the update Colin, no need to keep that app anymore.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome!

  8. Jenn

They never have any good offers any way. I have used them maybe 2 times in the past year. At least I get to clear up some space on my phone!

  9. Blossom

I really hope other apps don’t follow suit. I would hate for Ibotta to place crazy restrictions!

  10. Sarah

That pretty much defeats the purpose of saving the most money when shopping.

  11. Cynthia

I’m so close to $20 too.

    • mel

Shopmium deposits your rebate directly to paypal, so you don’t need an amt to cash out like ibotta.

  12. Amanda

Goodbye shopmium, you are being beat by competitors anyway. Just quietly back out of the game and shut down with your dignity still in tact.

    • Kristen

Agreed! And, let those companies move to work with a site that is more user-friendly.

  13. SP

Goodbye Shopmium! I only redeemed 25 offers with a total of $24 in just over two years. Not worth it!

  14. mel

Oh well, another app will be biting the dust. Not sure why they can’t process CVS receipts?? Ibotta, Ckout51 and Mobisave don’t seem to have a problem!

    • Kristen

I know–and I emailed them saying as much.

  15. Margie

I think they may have started enforcing this before today. I bought a2 milk in March and they did not give me the full $2 rebate. They deducted my coupon/discounts and only gave me $1.29. The milk cost over $4 so I thought deducting part of my rebate was a bit ridiculous. At least they still gave me a partial rebate and did not outright reject it.

I’m still going to keep the app for now because sometimes they have an item that overlaps with another rebate app to create a good deal even without using coupons. If anyone still wants to sign up for a new Shopmium account I’d be so appreciative if you’d use my referral code: GMHMEEQQ

    • Janet

They did, I submitted a rebate for the hot dogs and got rejected because I used a q.

  16. HBee

I deleted them a few weeks ago, so this just added more nails to the coffin!

  17. Vivian B.

Shopmium! ” You Are Dead To Me Now!!!” LOL

  18. Suzanne Tolliver

Their offers weren’t that good to begin with so, promoptly deleted the app

  19. kari

They suck now…. I had them reject one the other day. Think I’m done with them.

  20. Kellie

I never liked this app anyway. The offers never change! I guess these companies don’t realize that sometimes having a coupon and/or a rebate is the only way to get someone to buy the item. With Ibotta, I buy things I may not have otherwise, but that I know I can use if it makes for a good deal!

  21. o

bad bad app, not professional, i submitted reciepts that i used coupons on, were accepted, other were not and other one gave me only part of the rebate, with no reason, also i submitted the playtex offer, month ago or something, replied one week later that it was denied because it was expired when i submitted! well if it was expired i wont even be able to request a rebate for it! send them emails like 6 times never recieved a reply and no phone number to call, i hate you and bye bye shopmium

  22. Sf

I had the app and had about 8 dollars on it and when I got my new phone I never added it. Just gave up on the app since it seemed to never offer items I used anymore.

  23. maggie

If you are unhappy about this, instead of just commenting on FB, consider reviewing the Shopmium app store on iTunes. Those reviews get developer attention quick, as bad reviews really hurt an app.

    • Lisa

      Good suggestion!

  24. sophie

I deleted them a while back when all they had to offer was izze and sara lee cheesecake. Got tired of seeing that for i don’t know how many months.

  25. coupongangsta

Deleting it today and I’m sure they are losing a lot of customers. It won’t last long.

  26. Tracy

Has anyone had a problem with Mobisave saying you aren’t connected to the internet? I tried on my phone using wireless and not -with 5 bars and it still said I wasn’t connected. I literally tried for a full week to get a submission to go through and it kept saying that.

    • pandoraaddict

Have no problems with Mobi. Delete app and reinstall, you won’t lose anything.

  27. Alysha M.

I’m sooo not happy about this… I just joined/installed the app like 2 weeks ago!

  28. JT

Saw the email. Just deleted the app.

  29. Amber

I was getting near-free A2 milk every week for a while – used a $2 coupon from coupons.com and then $2 off with the Shopmium app. Then one day like 2 weeks ago they just refused my submission because I had used a coupon. I had no idea they had a policy about that! The only good thing about this app was getting your money right away vs. waiting until you earned $20.

  30. Erica

I tried to use this app for the Playtex deal a few weeks back and I just never received any kind of response from them whatsoever. All of a sudden, my rebate request disappeared and I was never told what happened to it. I contacted them multiple times via email but NO RESPONSE! Very unprofessional.

  31. Las Vegas Limo

I think I managed to get the free chocolate and maybe something like $2-4 out of the them. That was it. They’re the new Snap. They occasionally have a decent rebate, but the majority of the time its lackluster items that I can’t believe they make/people use. This is probably the stick that broke the camel’s back. I’ll keep it for the time being, but the fact that they removed so, so many stores and now the ability to use it with a coupon basically just nerfed/killed the product and they might as well close shop because they will be hemorrhaging money with the lack of users and there will be no reason to stay open

    • 🐾Pammie🐾

I agree with all of you about coupons going out. I usually don’t have problems with CVS but pretty much stopped shopping at Walgreens and Target will be next. It’s gotten so bad with Target..if your not there when the doors open Sunday am your out of luck. You can’t get rain checks because the product really is “Not on Sale” because they throw the gift card in. And they don’t restock the rest of the week like they tell you they are going to do. Cashiers not understanding their own coupon policies. What a mess for me and others. As for Shopmium deleted as off now. So sad for everyone that just tries to provide for their family and stock a little for hard times. It’s a huge mess in this coupon world.

  32. Mr. Grolsch

Makes me laugh: “our technology is not good enough to do what we need, so we’re cutting you off!” Good luck, says I as I unsubscribe from their e-mails.

  33. MARY

Does anybody know about Mobi App if you use a coupon/rebate one week for instance bananas then does it ever come back up in a few weeks? Seems like they have same offers every week and once I use they never reappear even weeks later. However, I have not been using that long so not sure. Would appreciate any input on this App.

    • April

Sometimes you have to logout of the app and sign back in to see if the offers update. That has happened to me in the past with Mobisave.

  34. Joy

I’ve pretty much given up on trying to do deals at any drugstore–there’s always some stupid issue. Coupons have extremely short expiration dates these days to boot. My best bet is to buy as much as I can at Aldi, watch the weekly fliers at grocery stores and Target cartwheel. And btw bye bye Shopmium.

  35. mary

Extreme couponing tv show was the down fall of couponing. Someone always has to try to get over on the system. Aso when sites like this tell about way to get around the rules also makes the companies pull back on good offers. Just because you can get away with it doesn’t make it right.
