Tempting for the price but I don’t want to risk it since the table is glass. Ive heard horror stories of the glass shattering into a million pieces. With kids around I am going to stick to my tile top patio set.

The tempered glass does make it safer, they can break. I will say, I haven’t had problems with our glass top and my kids. I did have tiles crack and break that are very sharp on my end tables inside. Good luck if you decide to buy. I understand the fear also.

I bought this last year for the same deal. I live in PNW so we don’t have extreme swings, more gradual but I left it out all year since we have a covered deck and use it. No shattering 🙂

We had purchased a set from Sears with a glass table. The table lasted two years until the glass shattered. We had the closed umbrella in the table. However, there was a bad storm with strong winds that picked up the umbrella and threw it on the table shattering on the glass. I’ve spent the last two years trying to find a non-glass table that goes with my eight chairs. 🙁

Same exact thing happened to us in the PNW with this exact table.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience Heather! Sorry to hear you table broke in a storm! 🙁

Do you still have the table and chairs? We bought a set like this at a yard sale like this – minus the glass top. It must have broken on the previous owners. My husband is handy and used a very sturdy material, cut it to size and painted it to match. It cost under $40 and lasted 6-7 years outside (Ohio climate). We only thew the table out last year because a leg bent somehow but we kept the chairs. If you can’t find exactly what you want, think outside the box. 🙂

What type of of material? Same thing happened to my table and I wanted to know what I should buy that would last through the rain and sun. TIA!

I think it was concrete board and he topped it with plexi glass to make it smooth. Hope it works for you…good luck!

I live in WI…is this ok for the weather here..i can always store it in the garage before winter..

    • Jen

I live in WI, and we have had this same set (minus the umbrella for about 3 year). We store it in the garage during the winter. We love it. We have not had any problems with it, but I’m sure if there were any hailstorms or strong winds, you’d want to store it away for a little while.

I purchased this set 3 years ago when we bought our house. It still looks new! I live in South Dakota so it’s very cold in the winter and it gets really hot in the summer. We have had no issues with the top being glass. About 2 years ago we had a horrible hail storm that damaged our roof and made huge holes in the siding on the front of our house. This table and chairs came out unharmed! I was pleasantly surprised lol!

Sweet! Thanks for the review! Good to know how well it has held up to the weather over the years!

I purchased this for Mother’s Day this year for my grandmother. Obviously she hasn’t had it long but I have young kids and there is no worry that it would shatter, it is tempered so durable. It looks great on her porch!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh cool! Thanks for sharing Lauren!
