Just in my experience, I had a Dyson, the animal one, and it lasted about one year. The cannister cracked at the base, the top of the cannister cracked, and then the handle just snapped off from the bottom. Replaced it with a shark professional and couldn’t be happier.

How ironic you wrote this. We have an 11 year old animal model in the old style. We use it downstairs. Got it cleaned one time for $80 and it’s been good.
Bought a second vacuum, in the new animal ball design in 2012, and last week the motor burned up and a hose broke. Took it to the repair shop on Monday and luckily it was still under warranty. However, there were a lot of other Dyson’s there. All of them the ball design. My husband asked about that and the woman said, “Yep, we get a lot of Dyson’s. They don’t make them like they used to. I wouldn’t buy one.” Glad they have a five year warranty on them though. What a shame.
I have this vacuum and bought a Shark for much less that works much better! Don’t waste your money on this one!

I do have a Shark Professional Rotator (it’s 3 years old now) and I really like it. Before I bought it, a lot of people were giving good reviews about it. I also wanted a Tyson but it was too expensive for me.
