What do other Hip2Save readers think?

I purchased the last deal you posted for $45 for the whole year for my sons (ages 5 and 2) and I must say I absolutely love it! My 5yr old son wakes up every day and asks to go on it and my 2yr old son sits right next to him watching him play until it’s his turn, then I sit with him and supervise. I will also add that that my 5yr old has ADHD type 1&2 so this really helps him out a lot! I think my 2yr old does as well so this helps out tremendously with early intervention.

My son did ABCmouse when he was 5. He loved ABCmouse and would beg to play. He actually chooses it at the library often, even at 7. At first I had to help him a lot but it didn’t take long for it to be something he could do on his own. As for learning value, I’m not certain he learned anything but I would say it doesn’t hurt. There were times the site was glitchy and my son would get irritated. His favorite part was earning coins to buy things for his pets. I had no problems canceling after our year, I then renewed for 3 months (over the summer) and again no problem’s canceling. At this price I think I may do it again for my 4yr old.

I signed up for a free trial last month along with the assessment (feature within ABC Mouse). Me and my son absolutely loved this site. I cancelled the assessment feature yesterday but thought to keep the access to ABCmouse as my son got so used to this. $7.95 is pricey (with several options available for free), but ABCmouse is complete package with all types of activities, games and books.

I watched my friends child play on the app for iPad. He only colored for at least an hour. Is there a way to restrict what games my kids have access to? I don’t want to pay for coloring.

    • Mommyof5

No, but the idea is it to be parent led. There is a learning path that allows you to set age limits and it has activities tailored to the child’s grade.

  2. Laura

Does anyone know what kind of device you can do this on? Like would a kindle fire work? Thanks!

    • Morna

Yes. My son plays on his.

      • Laura

        Awesome, thank you!

We love ABC mouse!!!! We use as a supplement for our homeschool. It is really a great learning tool and the kids love the games, songs, and stories.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh good! Glad to hear they are enjoying it! Thanks so much for sharing!

It reminds me a lot of ABCYa, or alternative free sites. I use the sites our school teachers use, RazKids, SpashMath, etc. Just throwing them out there in case any parents are looking for good sites! 🙂

  5. Cindy

My 5 year old and 3 year old absolutely love abcmouse.com. They’ve learned a lot and love the songs, stories, and tracing the alphabet the best!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome to hear that Cindy! Thanks for the feedback!

  6. Libriar

My public library offers free subscriptions so check to see if you can get a free account with your library card!

  7. Ang

My kids have loved it and learned a lot. My 2 yr old recognises letters and numbers from playing.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      How cool! Thanks for sharing!

My 3 year old daughter is speech delayed can this app help her?

    • Janie

One of my children is speech/language delay. I have my reading endorsement focused on Orton Gillingham…do not use this app for speech delay. There are a lot of great apps out there for speech delay as your dd hears sounds like she is swimming under water & therefore needs very specifically tailored phonemic awareness instruction. There are many free apps- Google Orton gillingham & speech delay & you’ll have days of info to look through to help. ABC Mouse makes me laugh. ABCYa is the same thing & is free.

The only ABCya I see is $6.99/month. Is there a free app? It looks like a good site

      • Robyn

Will do so thank you so much

    • Melissa

My daughter has speech delays, she also has autism and is now almost 12. Computer games of all sorts taught her a lot more than any teacher, professional, service provider, or even myself could. Without computers I don’t think she would be where she is today!

I am a big fan of Starfall…and it is only about $36 a year!

  10. Jlute838

FYI- we were going to cancel our subscription due to a financial difficulty. There was an option to select why cancelling and ABC mouse extended an offer for 1 year subscription for $30.00!

  11. Adrian

Will this work on a chromebook or a galaxy tab?

    • Adriann Barrett

It doesn’t work on the Tablet’s There app is nothing like the website.

  12. Catherine

I’ve seen recommendations for a similar free site called abcya.com. I plan to check that one out. My daughter asks about abcmouse but I don’t want to pay for it.

  13. Amy

I’ve paid for abc mouse in the past, and am tempted to buy it now. Here’s what’s holding me back…I’m more and more convinced that while learning with technology is okay in small amounts, I don’t really want my preschoolers starting off staring at a screen. For *ME*, and my family, technology soon takes over and it’s hard to monitor and control usage, time, etc. So, I’m sticking with the good old fashioned stuff of puzzles, books, and art. BUT-having said that, if you were going to choose an online option, this is probably one of the best for preschoolers. Better this than a lot of the apps that are out there, especially if you take the time to streamline the lessons. It could be useful and fun for sure. Abcya is okay-my older kids like it but I find them playing games more than actually learning…

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for your review Amy!

  14. Ari

Just watch your statements if you decide to cancel. They have a history of continuing to charge after cancellation.

    • Melissa

Yes, that is what I have read in the reviews. I went with Starfall instead and am happy with it.

  15. Adriann Barrett

It doesn’t work on their tablets like some of the others do. I prefer Hooked on Phonics or Reading eggs to be honest.

  16. Amy

I didn’t think it was that great. We don’t use a mouse on our laptop and my 4-yr olds had a hard time operating the touch pad to color. They couldn’t quite figure out how to get the item they purchased with the learning tickets either. Just wasn’t impressed at all. Plenty of free apps that are just as good if not better. That and I thought it was too easy for them.
