My fav one closest to me is closing. 🙁

    • Erica (Silly Sidekick)

Bummer.. so sorry about that Laura. 🙁

  2. rn30032

Most in Atlanta are already closed so no biggie for us

  3. Mg

They closed around me in the early 2000’s.

  4. Sarah!!

No Kmarts close to me either. I just hope it doesn’t wind up effecting my Sears I get some great deals there! Sears and jcp are normally the only stores I shop in at the mall now

  5. Tobey

There is only one left near me and I am surprised it did not make the list (this time anyway).

  6. B.

    Kmarts still exist??

    • Kasey

Haha… I remember Kmart being a big deal to my Mom for back to school shopping when I was younger. It was like a special treat to go there and we only went once a year or so (it was about an hour drive.) Now that I’m an adult- and my Mom will now agree too- every Kmart I have gone into is filthy, the employees are terrible, the items are poor quality, etc!

      • rae

Same experience with Kmart for me too. I have been to them in four different areas of the US and they were all the same. I think BigLots stores have been better taken care of and the staff is usually friendlier… which is a sad comparison.

  7. Julie

Make it stop! I love my Kmart deals and SYW!

  8. LEe

I’m sorry for the employees but the stores have really been going downhill. There’s only so much they can do when they have limited resources. The cashier registers are ancient I MS and never work. Shop your way rewards points now never add to my account and when I email CS shoeing my receipt stating I earned them, they say sorry but we can’t fix it. The shelves are bare. Like I said I feel for the employees, but it’s almost as if Sears already made up their minds and just gave up trying to make them look nice. And the prices are outrageously high even with coupons.

    • carol

Definitely i stop shopping there months ago. The stores employees lack customer service. Waited 30 min in line for an online order. An employee had to go the back and called 2 times to ask for my name again. And then manager proceeded to tell her to check the clothes on the floor that my items could be there. I was shocked that i just walked out.

      • carol

Seems like that kmart is on the list fontana ca.

  9. Natalie

Completely surprised that the one in my city! Black Friday crowd is like a Tuesday afternoon at Walmart crowd.

    • Natalie

      Isn’t on the list 😖

  10. Kcmiami88

I love Kmart I wish they would have found a way to bring the store back up to par with other competitors

  11. Hope

I’m surprised my store isn’t closing. It’s the messiest, dirtiest, and most mismanaged store I have ever seen in my entire life. If it wasn’t for shop your way, is would have never stepped foot inside of one ever again.

    • Alla

Amen to that Hope. The one closest to me exactly the way you described it and I saw it on the list right now. I knew that store was going to close soon because it’s extremely mismanaged and I remember last year a day before Christmas they made me wait 45 mins at CS while the manager himself went to the back to look for my order that I placed online for store pick up. Soon another lady came and we waited for that long so I left and I don’t know how long it took her to wait for her stuff cuz the manager went to look for her order also. I haven’t stepped a foot in that store since Christmas. So sorry for the employees but the store is a real mess & I knew they can’t keep it like that for long 😐

  12. Amy

We used to have 2 but the last one just closed over the summer. The liquidation sale was awful. They marked prices up so most of the time they were in liquidation the items were more expressive than regular price at other stores.

    • rebecca

yes– i experienced the same thing when the one near me closed. the liquidation deals were not good deals. item regular prices were raised before the clearance percentages took affect.
then when something would ring up incorrectly during the liquidation sale, and i would see it on my receipt before i even walked away from the register, the cashier told me, “No returns on liquidation items. to fix the price we would have to return it and then re-ring it, and there are no returns, so it can’t be fixed.”
plus, if you buy something that breaks the next day, there are no returns, so you are stuck with defective item.

  13. Heather

Our store in town is closing. I get such killer deals with the SYW points/coupons. Such a bummer. The now closest kmart will be an hour away….the only thing left locally will be walmart (boo).

  14. arnold

We only have three Kmart’s left in the Phoenix Arizona metro area. I’m glad none of those three are closing because they do have some good deals from time to time. I also have about $100 worth of Shop Your Way points to use up before March 31st. I really need to use those up because who knows what’s going to happen next?

    • rebecca

at least you could use those for Land’s End or Sears orders, i think. or Kmart online order if you had to find a way to use them.
also, when our Kmart here closed this summer, they were still applying SYW rewards previously earned to the final cost, so you did not have to lose points if you could find items you wanted at the liquidation.

  15. Imran

The one in Jonesboro AR is closing that’s where I grew up. I want to visit there one day they added lots of new stores

  16. KetaCar

64 more?! 😳…won’t that be all of the remaining stores??! When I see one I look twice like it’s a rare antique lol….not many left here in the Mid Tenn area

  17. SJ

I can’t believe the couple remaining stores in Indianapolis aren’t closing. They’ve already cut their stores in half, cutting out the grocery side completely…just give up Kmart. Put the dog to bed…

  18. Melissa

I am not at all surprised that a lot of the stores are closing. The one near me doesn’t seem to ever do much business. None in my area are closing, so that is good news for the employees. It is also good news for the other stores in the shopping area. Whenever these big stores close, it negatively impacts the others.

  19. Gwen

It’s sad. Sure…Kmart hasn’t met up with Target or even Walmart in updates but for those living in rural New England there aren’t many options less than 10 miles away and people reject new stores coming bc they won’t follow all the rules. It’s like traveling cross country for every item on one’s list. So having another store close is quite depressing. The people that speak up act like stores don’t matter, but if there is no industry, retail establishments are the only jobs, too. To corporate America —> Of course, a store in an area where there are only 10,000 full time residents isn’t going to match up to a store near NYC or Boston. I find businesses are becoming unfair in their market research as well. No place can live on tourism alone. Online stores aren’t always the best deal and definitely not convenient if someone is ill or you need a last minute item. Some places won’t let Walmart in. So what’s an equivalent store that could be a replacement for the average folk?

  20. Casey Meyers

Just close all the remaining stores and be done with it. Surprised there are still any open.

    • Brittany

I believe they are slowly closing all stores … It’s only a matter of time

  21. Diane Z.

Closed the Sears awhile back it was in the mall . Then k-mart in nearby town . Now I see Augusta,Ga which was the next one nearby is leaving . Seems all our stores are going away . Lost Penny’s also .

  22. Christine

We have 2 Kmarts closing here in NC, Burlington and Mt Airy but the one closest to me (Clemmons) seems to be safe for now, we lost the one in Winston-Salem years ago

  23. Ivan

Remember going to Kmart as a kid with my parents. I always looked for the “Blue Light Special”. Hate to see them go, but I’m surprised they’ve lasted this long.

  24. Danielle

Haven’t been in Kmart in a few yrs due to dirty stores, unhelpful employees, and several other issues. Last big one is they lost all my layway 3 yrs ago. I went to pay the last $10 before Christmas and they had lost all of it. Of course I got a refund but still. They need to just kill of the store. It’s went downhill bad.

  25. Denise

Wow.. I’m very suprised to see its not my local Kmart that’s one of them closing. Whenever I’m in my local Kmart there are always more employees then customers inside.

  26. mckeeversmom

Does anyone know whether the KMarts that are closing will accept the points and/or coupons once their liquidation sales begin?

    • Brittany

My store allowed me to use my remaining points when they first announced, but big signs were posted that you could not use coupons… Don’t expect to find a lot of good deals. They went through, stripped items of all pricing and then replaced the prices with new price tags. People went crazy over the “sale” but if you’re a couponer it was pretty quick to see you could get better deals elsewhere. Most people just got caught up in the idea of getting a deal. I hadn’t seen that many buying shoppers there in a long time. It was ironic because they were paying the same pricing from sale ads and if they would have just shopped there prior to the closing they might could have stayed open longer.

      • Brittany

        Open longer

  27. Laura

Kmart is nasty. The stores are dirty and unkept. The employees seem to not care – sort of like Walmart. It’s no surprise. They should’ve modeled after Target. Then maybe they would’ve had a chance.

    • Ivan

So is my Walmart. Dirty, empty shelves, pallets of merchandise in the aisle. Has a lot to do with the quality of people they hire unfortunately.

  28. Susie

They were the original discount chain, before Walmart or Target existed. Hate to see them go, but not surprised. I haven’t been in one for many years now. So sorry for the employees.

  29. Rachel

So I don’t know if u will see my comment with all the posts…but the kmart closest to me is closing which is sad. But u can pay with points there. And I noticed the other day that I got a 10 off 30 online purchase coupon after I made a purchase there… So I went back today and tried buying something on different accounts and see if I could get more of these. So I got it on 5 out of 7 accounts and some people just throw this coupon away but u can use it on anything online, even groceries. Its a good way to use your points. I also try to use my points when I have surprise points…but I use it online since I’m never able to find the correct items in store.

    • mckeeversmom

Thank you for your comment…I did see it!

  30. spi_cy13

I think that the Kmart near me already closed since late last week. I went there on Friday, September 16 to get the Friday freebie as I normally do. The store’s lights were off, and the employees were standing in the parking lot! I only shopped at Kmart for the Friday freebie, and nothing else. The store is highly dirty, expensive (they don’t even price match!), full of expired items, and the shop your way program is a joke! $2,392.03 to reach the silver level is asinine to me! I pity the laid-off employees.

  31. Brindha

The one near us is closing… expected, but very sad still…. 🙁

  32. becky

Wow all the negative comments about kmart….my store in shelby nc.is great….employees are sweethearts…i go so much with points call me by name…store very clean….but uts a small town..i save tons at this store

  33. Kimberly B.

I feel really lucky the Kmart near me is not closing. It is in a mall and is clean and well stocked! The food at their Nathan’s Hot Dog restaurant is good too!

  34. Trinity

So glad the one near me is not closing; while my store is slow it is pretty clean and the odd clothes actually usually hold up much better than anything I get from children’s place or target. The little boy sweatpants and shorts are great!

  35. Leigh Ann Bumgardner

While I understand many Kmart stores and dirty and unpleasant, I can’t say the same of the one near me. It is clean, well stocked, friendly associates, but is also on the list of closings.

  36. Krista

So when they start liquidation, will we be able to use coupons and rewards??

    • rebecca

coupons, no. they accepted rewards towards payment at mine when it closed, but liquidation and clearance prices were very high on most items, higher than items you could get with coupons or sales at other stores.
there were not good deals on pantry items like paper goods, foods, toiletries, baby diapers/wipes/food.
you could find some good liquidation prices on clothing that was out of season, and some kitchen goods or small appliances, and very random toys.

  37. Sonnet

“K-mart sucks, Ray.” That’s how I feel about this news. 🙂

  38. Diane

I went to a Kmart today that is not closing and they had a lot of good deals:
Buy $15 of clearance clothing get $15 in points
Buy $20 of MLB items get $20 in points
Lots of miscellaneous items – get 100% in points back (socks, washcloths and towels, cleaning items, grocery items – a wide variety of items on temporary shelves in the aisles.)

  39. Lori D

I feel bad for the employees that work there, but honesty I won’t be sad to see it close. EVERY time I go there, poor customer service and messy store and just plain getto.
