Barbara, I have a husband, 19 y/o, and a Rat Terrier and I’ll tell you with what the Roomba picks up for me… UNREAL! I like the fact it picks up my so-called “medium” shedder dog’s hair from all over and all the little grains of sand that get drug in that I probably wouldn’t normally be able to get up just running a typical vacuum. I do have to run the regular vacuum once in a while, but the Roomba I like to lock her up in a room (or put up the virtual walls) and let it run its battery down. The “bag” (or where it keeps all its crud) is always full when I empty it after each use. If you have long hair as I do, it is always good to check to make sure the rollers are clear as it can easily get built up. I thought my hubby was nutty when he suggested a Roomba a few years back, turns out I was the nutty one for putting it off. Love our Roomba… can you tell!? Hope you get a good one. We found that we do not utilize the pre-programmed feature one, so if you don’t plan on using the pre-programming, don’t pay for it and get a more basic model.

How do you keep things off the floor (kids stuff) and cords out of the way of a roomba?
Pamela, as long as it is not tiny enough to get sucked up (not that it can suck up a small child or anything!), but as long as it can’t suck it up, it will just shove it out of the way. The only thing I’ve had an issue with it sucking up is like a set of small headphone that my son out on the floor, you know, the cord.
