    • Casey

No you can’t earn points when you redeem points.

      • Russell

Yes you will earn the points back. Casey they changed it where points are rollable on certain deals like this.

  4. Shana

Collin, Did you find those Batman and Superman socks at Dollar Tree recently or describing a good deal you have gotten in the past? My son loves those kind! I need to know if I need to make a mad dash to town! Lol! 🙂

  5. thehenrydthoreau

What happened to the simplicity of fruit and nuts in stockings? I was always thankful and enjoyed the oranges in my stocking as a child.

    • Jessica

I still put an orange in my girls’ stockings!

    • Christie

I know, we always got oranges, candy canes & nuts. Loved it!

    • Russell

What ever happened? 2016 is what happened lol. Times change and so do people’s preferences.

    • nin

We totally do nuts and clementines in th stockings, but also lip balm, pen/pad of stationary, star wars keychain for the kids’ backpacks, giant candy cane and couple other things. My kids get one gift from mom/dad, one from Santa, and one Hannukah gift (we are inter-religious)
And our kids totally LOVE the orange and nuts-they would miss them if they weren’t in the stocking!

    • Jean C

Yes! We do the fruit in the stocking too and just a few little gifts. We do a giant apple, giant orange and banana.
As a kid we got a grapefruit in addition, which was my favorite, and also a variety of nuts still in the shell. We also got a candy cane and a Christmas coloring book, and maybe batteries if a gift needed them.

    • Michelle

Well at our house we are total fruit nuts so putting fruit in there stockings wouldn’t be a treat… My daughter had several friends over for the weekend once and a couple of the girls said they couldn’t remember the last time they had fresh fruit… I try to serve fruit with every meal… Growing up I did get fruit and whole nuts in my stocking…

      • Erin

Wow! We always have fresh fruit in our house, too. I spend the bulk of our grocery budget on fresh fruit and vegetables. It’s a pain trying to get reasonably good deals (and having to run out a couple times each week to do so) but we always have fresh options at meals. Poor kid!

Regarding stocking stuffers, I think the original poster is just reminding us not to overcomplicate the holidays. Personally, I don’t even worry about stocking stuffers, and I always end up with gifts for them (especially with young kids). And even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t care or go out of my way (or budget) just to stuff a stocking. Better to get one thing that you really want, need, or can use than a stocking full of unnecessary, unwanted, or unneeded stuff. (Or stuff that I have to pick up, manage, dust, or otherwise deal with! 😉 ) I have some well-meaning but IMO misguided relatives who overbuy stocking stuffer type items from “junk stores” (Dollar Tree, Five Below, etc.), which drives me crazy because they end up spending way too much on stuff that doesn’t last or that isn’t used. Overbuying just sets the bar higher and higher each year, and who needs that kind of stress?

That said, I think some of these are great gift ideas for the hard-to-buy-for. We are overwhelmed with mugs, toothbrushes, and candy, but I love the idea of magazine subscriptions (especially for kids or older relatives) and earphones or earbuds (I go through them like underwear!). Some other ideas: scratchers (who couldn’t use some extra $ after the holidays?) and specialty or locally produced foods (beef jerky, condiments, spices/rubs, soaps, etc.). Gotta love consumables for adults who don’t want or need more stuff.

  6. Bess

thank you all for all your efforts and great suggestions!!! as always awesome ideas!!! Just one point though…people who work with ceramics will tell you to I be very careful about buying mugs (and generally ceramics for eating-drinking) from places (like Dollar stores and even Walmart) who are cheaply made in China…the glazes used are filled with chemicals and if they start “crackling” which they do often they ll release bad stuff in your food. particularly careful with darker glazes.

    • Leslie Ramey

I had no idea. Any suggestions on where to buy safer mugs? Thanks

    • Nicole

Yes but if you buy disney licensed ones those are left over from stores like kmart that went out of business and are generally higher quality

  7. Vanessa

I love the sapphire necklace! I bought one for myself and one for my mom. I also went through ebates for 10%cashback! Thank you!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re very welcome! 🙂

  8. em_quentismom

The batman and superman socks are at 99 cent only store not Dollar Tree l.

  9. Steph K

Anybody try the Essie nail stickers from Dollar Tree?

  10. AMB

I can’t seem to print the Arm & Hammer Spinbrush coupons, anyone else having trouble?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Bummer! Have you been able to try it in a different browser?
