    Thank you!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome! 🙂

  2. Darla

I am not getting them because I hope people truly pledged to donate the food they grow to local communities. I don’t have a big enough area to commit. I hope people really commit to this because I would consider it stealing

    • Debby

You know that’s exactly what I thought!!🙂 so many people just grab things because their free (we’ve all seen the lines at Costco for samples 😮)with no intention of following through for what it’s meant to be. And I decided not to get them because I don’t have the time to grow it ,I’d rather someone who actually has good intentions to do so and let them have the samples!!

      • errrrrrr

I have no problem getting samples from BJ’s with ZERO intention to buy (I don’t belong to Costco). I see the samples as part of my annual membership fee, BECAUSE IT IS. The “sampling experience” falls under the broader umbrella of “membership experience.” Warehouses have factored this in when they calculate costs of my membership ~ it’s not some surprise cost that mysteriously crept up on them.

Also, the people who prepare the samples actually like it when you take the samples. Cooking/prepping samples gives them something to do during their Sample Duty shift and it makes the time go by faster. Otherwise, they would just stand there for 1 hour or more doing nothing.

You’re right. And it is a great way for the companies to get their product known by us. The companies want us to try it, buy and consume.

  3. Melissa

Thank you! What a great way to share the harvest.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Melissa!

  4. Queenjen87

I just hope I can get them to grow… I have the opposite of a green thumb 🙁

  5. anna

They pantry isn’t coming up for me:(

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn! I’m wondering if there isn’t one in a 5 mile area for your region?

    • Oshea

      Change radius to 50 mi.

      • anna

        Thanks!

  6. Natasha C

    Thanks.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re so welcome!

  7. Oshea

    Thx. Can’t wait for spring

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      YW!

  8. Kimberly

The list of pantries didn’t show several that I know of that are closer to me. It’s s great idea though.

  9. Rosana

    Thanks

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome!

  10. Sandy

Wow there’s at least 30 pantry near me. I remember when I was little our priest would bring food in two boxes for my mom, donations from our church. I have two kids age 5 and 8 and we have been so blessed. two weekends ago my family and I helped pack lunches for our churches winter shelter program. It will be a great learning experience to grow the food, harvest it and donate it to the nearby church. Thank you for an amazing opportunity to give back without costing a fortune!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You are SO welcome Sandy! 🙂

  11. Tori

This was actually helpful for another reason. I have some food I want to donate and had no idea where a local pantry was!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Perfect!

  12. Jean C

My local library has a seed bank & exchange. You can sign up and then pick up seeds for flowers and veggies for free. It’s neat because it is local, so you know they should grow for you. I’m not sure if this program is widespread, but thought I’d share. Happy Growing!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      How neat! Thanks for sharing!

  13. Catie

Any tips on increasing the search radius? It wouldn’t let me do it but I’d love to participate..I KNOW there are food pantries in my area!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Do you know of another local zip code that you could search?

  14. Sharon

I agree, I checked and the nearest pantry is a bit too far for me so I didn’t order seeds. Plus, I can find seeds for .50 or less a pack so I don’t feel right getting ones that are supposed to be for those that need it. 🙂

  15. Amy

Thanks so much for sharing this! What a great way to give back to the community. I ordered some seeds and plan to use this as a teaching tool for my children — as a gardening project and a way to help others. Thanks again!

    • Lucy

Hoping to get the seeds. I plan on giving them to the teachers to use for their spring/growing unit.

    • KT

I donated a lot of the miracle gro pods to my daughter’s preschool because they teach the kids about planting a garden and tending to it. They eat the veggies as part of their lunch and snacks.

  16. Jean

Would this need a lot of space to grow? I only have a deck space with pots..

  17. Hill

You can grow lettuce and cabbage in small containers. Cabbages require 1 per 12 inches, lettuce you can do 4 per 12 inches.

    • Jean

      Thank u..

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for the helpful tip! Good to know!

  18. Doreen Whitted

I already donate great buys I find on your site and now I can add lettuce to that list. Thanks for the post.

  19. A.Gold

I had the seeds sent to the shelter directly. They have a little terrace garden, they grow mostly herbs.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Great idea!

  20. A.Gold

On a related note- did anyone get the tomato seed last year?

  21. KHM

If you don’t want them because you think you won’t have enough space to grow them or for whatever reason, many universities, schools, community gardens, etc. would love to have them!!!!

  22. Norma

Awesome! I hope they do grow for me. I’ll gladly donate 😃

  23. Trisha Spangler

Excited to do this with my 6 and 3-year-old. Playing in the dirt and giving to others! Win Win Situation!!! <3 Thank You!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      YW! 🙂

  24. Michelle Saborowski

I grow a garden evey year and what i have too much of I usually give to families near me . I love giving back. My closest neighbor is a young mom with one son and if she dont know how to cook something I go over and teach her.
