Starting next Wednesday, April 19th, Walmart will be offering up a new pickup discount on eligible, online-only (non-store) items that customers buy online and ship to any Walmart store for pick up – discount available in the contiguous United States only. This new pickup discount will initially be available on about 10,000 items and the discount will then roll out to more than one million of the most popular items by the end of June.

Here’s how the pickup discount will work starting 4/19:

Customers will purchase an item notated with “Pickup Discount” on Walmart.com and choose the option to ship to their local store for pick up. These shoppers will then receive a discount based on each individual item. Here are some examples…

Final Cost ONLY $140.65!

I ordered something last week for Same Day in store pick up. Hadn’t ordered that way for a few months. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Pick Up hours had changed. Now it’s 8 am till 8 pm. Definitely a plus. The old 10 am earliest was inconvenient.

Discounts for being able to sit in the convenience of my own car with a napping toddler while my items are brought out by the most friendliest workers ever!? This is great! (And there was no sarcasm there. Every time I have used the drive through pick up I have had the best customer service ever at Walmart! Inside pickup is a completely different story! But the ‘new and improved’ way has made me a returning customer!)

Walmart offers drive-up pickup? I wish they all did lbvs

      • Sarah

Yes! At our store when you pull up to the side of the building, you type your info into a machine and they tell you what slot to pull up to. Then, it’s set up just like a bank. They send your prescriptions through the tubes and if you’ve ordered groceries or .com items, they bring it straight out to your car! It’s been a time and money saver for sure!

Wait… they bring the stuff out to your car?! Which Walmart is this? The parking lot (during daylight hours only, of course) is about as close as I’m willing to get to our local Walmart, so that sounds pretty tempting.

I’m in Northern Alabama! I know this was a trial area to see how the pick up service goes so hopefully it’s going great and starts spreading out to wherever you are soon!

Walmart employees do not look like this at my Walmart lol .. I still prefer target especially with all of Collins deals.

    • gilly

      What do they look like?

      • Hip2trade

I think she meant the employees at her Walmart don’t appear as friendly as those in the photo here. I know mine don’t at least.

      • Dana

        also curious

    • Jade

Agree, the Target employees are always friendly and go out of their way to help you. It’s like going to Chick-fil-a vs Mcdonald’s.

This is interesting. You can already order & have items shipped to the store so I’m curious about why they are offering this new discount…maybe they’re just trying to cut down on the # of items they have to ship to customers? I noticed a sitting area in my walmart the other day set up for these pickup orders.

This is different than the online grocery ordering where they bring the items out to your car.

    • Chris

Maybe they’re hoping people will buy more things at the store that they wouldn’t have online when they go to pick up the items.

I read that the new “pickup discount” is to compete with Amazon. The discounted price is only available on items NOT available in the store. The most expensive part of delivery is to a home, not to one of their stores, so they are spending less money on shipping and say they are passing the savings to the customer.

Depends on the area. I went and parked. Lady came out and asked me questions and then went back in the store. My brother was with me and he decided to go inside to get a few things. He came back out and I was still sitting there waiting. I think I wanted about 15-20 minutes before they brought my stuff out. Haven’t been back since. The worker was friendly though.

    • Sarah

Waiting can be so frustrating. Where we used to live you had to do pick up and returns inside. I once waited a half hour for someone to show up to the desk (pick up). Employees kept walking by, most of them ignoring me and a couple of them even stopped to get my info and what I was there for and then disappeared into the back room…never to return. The sweet janitor cleaned both bathrooms and kept asking if anyone had helped. When he was done (cleaning BOTH bathrooms!) he went and personally got a manager to the back to find someone to help me. It was ridiculous. That janitor deserved the biggest raise in my book!

This is Site-to-store, not grocery pick-up. I am trying to get away from shopping at Walmart. Every time I have tried to return an item that I had shipped site-to-store there has been major issues. The most recent instance they shipped me the wrong size pants and wouldn’t allow me to return them without giving my license, because they said they couldn’t use the online receipt I printed bc the item wasn’t on there. BECAUSE they shipped me the wrong size. I didn’t like that. Last time the jewelry I was trying to return was showing not in system and it took 3 different ladies 40 minutes to figure it out. No more business from me.

I have had some problems at Walmart as well, but my problem was that I was using a mobile Walmart Giftcard.

    • Sarah

My local Wamarts (Northern AL) are all in the same; prescriptions, site to store and grocery pickup are all done outside. At the one Walmart if there is a problem, I have to take it back inside the store. The other Walmart though said to just pull right back up and let them know I have a return. I have never waited more than a few minutes and I’ve done it probably a half dozen times. I avoided Walmart for a really long time due to terrible customer service, but this has definitely had me coming back!

      • Sarah

Clarification-I’ve only had experience with the pickup, I have not actually had to use the return service as of yet. That info was just the friendly reminders they give me while I sign for pickup.

  8. Joanna

1 out of 100 look and are as friendly as the the female pictured, I hate going to Walmart for that reason.

    • Missy

They are NEVER in any hurry to assist shoppers either. I’ve ordered online and had to wait and wait for pickup. The employees really do not care about customer service. I worked at Walmart while in college years ago. Their customer service training must have changed drastically since then. I absolutely hate shopping at WalMart due to poor service

  9. Sarah

I agree with you, Missy, and everyone who has had bad experiences with Walmart. The customer service has never been top-rated in my book, or even comparably good to other stores. My experiences with returns have also resulted in frustration. I tried to return some blinds. They came in a box that was taped completely closed. So naturally, the box got demolished when I opened it. The blinds were not the right size for my window so I went to return them with my receipt and broken/opened box and they would not return them. The lady behind the counter said she would do it if I found the same blind in their store so she could scan the box. I said, “I have to go find a box?” Her reply was, “Well, I can’t leave the desk.” Fine. And guess what, there was no same blind in the store. I returned to customer service and the lady was gone! Great fun. I never got anyone to return them….with my receipt. Another occasion, my husband purchased too large of pjs for me for Christmas. This time I didn’t have the receipt. Their policy states they will do returns with or without a receipt. Well, when they scanned in the pjs they were giving me $3 back for the pjs. I was told it is because they don’t know when I purchased the pjs and I could have got them on sale. I can guarantee those pjs never when on sale for $3. Anyway, I’m venting…sorry you all had to hear me.
    ….I feel better!
    Happy shopping!
    🙂
