It’s so easy to make your own delicious version of the famous frozen Disney Pineapple Dole Whip at home. Believe it or not, July 21st is actually National Dole Whip Day! What better way to celebrate than with a refreshing frozen treat that’s perfect for a hot summer day.

The basic idea is to “whip” frozen pineapple using a high-powered blender or food processor. Then, we add a little milk so it becomes creamy.

Disney's pineapple whip and kids at Disney

Disney actually shared its official recipe back in 2020, and, now that it’s peak summer, we thought we’d share it again with you!

I actually posted a Dairy-Free Dole Whip recipe several years ago in a previous post, but the biggest difference in this current recipe is the addition of canned condensed milk and then folding in whipped topping after the pineapple is “whipped”. This makes for a creamier, fluffy texture and less tangy taste. We love it!

Hip tips for making the best DIY Disney Dole Whip Recipe:

  • You can freeze fresh pineapple, canned pineapple, or use pineapple already in the freezer section as the base of your drink. The smaller the pineapple pieces are the easier it is to blend smooth.
  • To make a Dole Whip float, simply add pineapple juice to your cup before topping it with the whip.
  • Want to make Pineapple Dole Whip even easier? You can grab a bag of Dole’s soft-serve mix on Amazon!

  2. Katrina

We live in Central Florida and love Dole Whip! We would always treat ourselves while at Disney, but a local ice cream store now sells it and it’s less than half the price for a huge serving! We get our fix that way now! 🍍

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      That’s great!

    • Karen schmigel

What’s the name of the ice cream shop and where? We live in Florida too

They make this at the Frozen Yogurt shop my son manages and it is nothing short of amazing. Sometimes I will ask him to bring home vanilla yogurt and I have the pineapple juice at home

  8. Luna

Sounds easy to make, can you suggest any other fruit which might be as good. Thanks

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

I think frozen banana is always great and turns out creamy by itself! Maybe even frozen mango or strawberry -thanks Luna!

    • Loretta Allen

Frozen Mango chunks and strawberry are both good!

  9. karen

is there any substitute for the sweetened condensed milk? just wondering. and yes, I absolutely love your posts, Lina, as do 99.9% of us!!!!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Yes of course. You can use another sweetener, honey, the cream from canned coconut milk, a frozen banana. Really this can be adapted in so many ways. – Thanks so much Karen!

    • peachcraze

I have made it using maple syrup and Greek yogurt.

  10. Gina

I am vegan and I make this all the time for my neice and self… I use frozen pineapple and coconut milk (in the can). For creaminess I will use a frozen banana or two depending on how much I make. And it taste very very similar to the real thing.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Great idea! Thanks for sharing Gina!

    • L

For GFCF, Plant based/vegan version, you can use:
      4 c. Frozen pineapple
      1 c. Almond milk
      1/3 c. Stevia or truvia
Condensed milk is just milk and sugar. I felt imminent needed 1 c. of almond milk but you can always start out with 3/4 c. You can also reduce stevia/truvia too.

  11. Shari

Sounds yummy…this gave me an idea…will try coconut yogurt for creaminess and sweetness since I am on WW now. Pina Colada Whip!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh that sounds yum!! Thanks Shari!

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Thank you, Audra! How cool! I’ve added that link to this post πŸ€—

  12. JanetinME

Yum! We have been doing a similar version with frozen pineapple, vanilla ice cream and pineapple juice (adding a little bit of water for easier blending) and it is delicious and we usually have these ingredients on hand πŸ™‚

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yum great idea!

  13. Abby H.

Question, instead of pineapple chunks, what about crushed pineapple? I have a can…give me your honest opinion. This is my favorite and we went last year to Disney, I had to have this πŸ™‚

    • Lori

Yes I’m wondering about using canned crushed pineapple too.

      • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Ya I think as long as frozen could be great!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Ya I think that would work but just freeze the contents first.

  14. Maite Lopez

I know this has nothing to do with post but I was wondering if anyone knows of a good ice cream maker and also if they have any deals. Thanks!

  15. Jen

I’m thinking some Malibu added in would be fantastic!

  16. Abby H.

Thank you! I will try it this weekend

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Enjoy Abby!!

  17. Bree

Ahhh… after reading all the artificial ingredients in the whip mix itself, I’m much more excited to share this natural version to the family. Has anyone tried w heavy whipping cream? Seems like I have more of that in the fridge than the condensed milk in the pantry. Thanks so much for all the great recipes!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Sure – enjoy!

  18. Abby H.

Bree, I make my own whipping cream, with heavy cream, powdered sugar and vanilla extract. I save the extra in a mason jar. Its last me for about 2 weeks. I will be using what’s left for this recipe. Good luck

    • Bree

      Abby H.
Great idea, thank you! Going to blend up a personal batch now w the whipped cream it should work perfectly bc of the powdered sugar + vanilla extract like you mentioned! Natural & yummy πŸ™‚

  19. CW

Or…. buy the real mix online (Amazon) and put it into a soft serve ice cream maker. Helpful purchasers have put the water/mix ratio comments online because the bag of mix is big. We tried it last week and are thrilled to make the original/real stuff in our house! We have a Cuisinart Soft Serve Ice cream maker.

  20. Nessa

I blend frozen pineapple pieces and honey together to make an “ice cream” or sorts. Use real honey, not the sugar laden stuff sold in stores.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Nice! Sounds delish Nessa!

  21. Adam

National Dole Whip day? glad corporations can just make up their own days when they need to boost sales

    great product, horrible advertising practices

  22. tiredday

I have a banana soft serve maker that takes frozen bananas and makes it into soft serve/ice cream. Could I run some frozen pineapple through it to make this?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Is it called Yonanas? I used to have one and ya you can use other frozen fruits like pineapple and berries.

  23. Diana

It’s just like that but the brand is Dole.

  24. Beverly

Just FYI for anyone who lives near a Sheetz convenience store: Many locations sell Dole Whip, and recently at our local store, it was just 99 cents a cup!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh neat! Yum. I noticed our froyo shop locally has it too. Not 99 cents though. Nice find!
