I have some questions for regular Insta Pot users. Is Amazon Prime Day next month the best time to buy an Insta Pot? What size is best to cook for a family of 3 with some leftovers for the next day? Are there any websites you suggest following for recipes? Thanks!

I went for the biggest, 8 quart one because I like to put whole chickens in with potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, etc. I’ve had mine for about 6 months now and love it! I use almost every time I cook!

I would say the size is more dependent on what you cook. I have a 6 quart and find that roasts and chickens are often difficult to fit in it frozen. I use my instant pot at least 5x a week for making yogurt, steaming veggies, rice or meals for my family of 4 and the 6 quart is plenty large enough.

I have used my 6-qt for about 4 years now, a few times a week for making yogurt & boiling eggs, & much more often in the fall & winter for cooking bone broth, soups, & baked potatoes. It’s the standard size, which makes the extra accessories like this lid, replacement seals, etc., easier/cheaper to get.

As for the best price, the half price offer seems to happen on Prime Day and around Black Friday & Cyber Monday. Once in the past year I saw it for around $65-$70 at Target, also. If you’ve had your eye on it, Prime Day might be the most opportune time to get a great deal.

I bought my Instant Pot DUO60 7-in-1, 6 Quart last July 12th (that was Prime Day last year) for $69.99 (originally $119.99). I think maybe I saw it go on sale also around Black Friday?? However, I’d wait to see if it (or fancier/larger model) go on sale on Prime Day.

There is an instant pot community on FB that the users are so helpful to each other — converting recipes and sharing new tips and tricks with each other.

I bought the 8 qt from amazon for 129.99 and got an extra ring . I cook for and my husband and we eat leftovers the next day. I love it, it takes a lot of counter space but preferred to get the 8 vs 6 .

May be a stupid question, but can you use a regular lid from an existing pot or pan?

    • Tricia

Yep! If you have one that fits!

I don’t understand why you just want the lid and not the pot. LOL

The Instant Pot only comes with the screw-on pressure cooker lid. Someone who already has an Instant Pot may want to buy this lid to go with it.

    • 50ShadesofLipstick

That doesn’t make sense. Can people not buy accessories for items that they already own? Lol

If anyone is on the fence about buying an IP, I will say that it was definitely worth the investment for me. I bought the 8qt Instant Pot and it is great size for my family of 5 (including 3 teens). My only complaint is that it is NOT a good slow cooker, so this lid would be pretty pointless for me. I’ve tried many recipes and a lot of adjusting, but it just does not work out. Pressure cooking is similar texture, but sometimes I miss the texture of some of my slow cooker recipes (my slow cooker went out). There is nothing better than quickly and perfectly cooked rice recipes, potatoes, shredded chicken, etc., that the IP provides!

Awesome to hear how much you have liked your Instant Pot! Thanks for the feedback Dawn!

I hate to even ask but I post yesterday and my unit is clearly defective and instant pot is willing to replace it but they have to have a receipt and I did not keep mine because I mailed in the postcard to register it but of course they have no record. Is it wrong to ask someone for a receipt? I feel bad asking but I’m lost without mine. They said without the receipt they will charge $70.

    • patricia

Did you buy it at lohls? If you have the kohls card cant they look up your purchase history?

    • Cara

I would try posting on their Facebook or Twitter page. It seems like the social media customer service reps are more willing to help or they have more authority to help. I wouldn’t ask for someone else’s receipt. If something happens to their product down the line, they’re SOL because you used their receipt
